Re: Excessive or Inappropriate Force

It is what it is. If it saves one person from serious injury, it's worth it IMHO. If nothing else it brings attention to the play which in and of itself creates a safer situation IMHO. Abolishing such a rule would make my life a lot easier, that is if I didn't give a damn. But I do give a damn so th...

Re: Excessive or Inappropriate Force

In order to hold a base (2nd or 3rd) a runner naturally slows down. Any incidental contact between the runner and fielder is minor. In contrast, runners can run through home plate without slowing down. A catcher waiting to receive a throw and a runner coming full speed to the plate is a recipe for d...

From The Gutter / Week 10

Shut Up and Roll edges past PC Squared 4-3 on Joe Frederick’s 604. Both are chasing JGB Inc. Pin Splitters take 5 to edge closer to East leader JPH. PPB keeps pace with South leaders, taking 7 on Paul Harvan’s 3 games over. A solid 7-point win gives Suds some hope in the West. Worthington & Sons tak...

Re: Excessive or Inappropriate Force

If a runner slides in the direction of a fielder in an area away from the base, that runner should be immediately ejected from the game without warning. Whether a prize is on the line or not should have no bearing on this call. My guess, Matt, is your question was in jest - maybe to stir the proverb...

Re: Coed League All-Star Restricted List

Manager Phil Black has petitioned for and been granted the release of Ted Peck from the all-star cap list. Having enough at-bats to qualify in a year after making all-star and not being listed among the top coed or men's league players in that year or any year that follows, his release from the all-...

Excessive or Inappropriate Force

From a league member: During one of our games last year, a male runner from first base intentionally slid and took out the legs of our male shortstop to prevent an easy double-play. A slight altercation ensued, which then began to involve both teams until cooler heads prevailed. (Honestly, I was sur...

From The Gutter / Week 9

There are 4 weeks left in the regular season. With 28 points still up for grabs, only 2 of the 32 teams have been mathematically eliminated. JPH heads the East pack. Pin Splitters are only 5 points back of JPH. Big Heads now 8 back after JPH 5-2 win. Split Happens 9 back. The Incredibowls, Dirtballs...

Re: Male Eddie bat - Legal?

I am not a bat expert, Stoney, but my guess is the bat is legal for use by an eddie. I'll shoot an email to our league 'Batman' Dan O'Brien and ask him to post a definitive answer.

Quarry Ball Field

Not long ago we experienced some warm weather. Some people then decided they were going to go out to the Quarry ball field and take some batting practice without any kind of permission. Because of this, we now have a couple of serious issues to contend with. First, but not least, the warm weather th...

From The Gutter / Week 8

No bowling this Sunday as the planet gets ready for the Super Bowl. I am not one, but I wish good luck to Eagles fans. I am not a football betting man, but if I were I would bet the Eagles. This team reminds me a lot of the ’07 and ’11 NY Giants. Against all odds. - Suds making a move as they reach ...

Re: Conduct Unbecoming....

No, you don't have to light something on fire or empty your bladder on anything. If at any point this year you turn 52, you are an eddie as of the 1st of the year. It's no different than turning 21. Nothing magical happens. You just go out and get sh!t-faced. Now you get to use one of these to reach...

From The Gutter / Week 7

As we approach the midway point of the season, division leading teams will need to continue their winning ways. Teams chasing the leaders will have to step up to the foul line and make something happen. - 3 games over by John Zeits propels JGB to a 5-2 win over PC Squared. A pair or 200s by Motts 3 ...

Quarry Bleacher Damage

The bleachers on the 1st base side of the Quarry Ball Field took a beating this past week. Apparently, a tractor trailer was attempting to use the parking lot to turn around and ran right into the back of the bleachers. You can see the tire marks in the grass just before impact. The damage to the bl...
