Re: U Make The Call

1. B because the ball landed in fair territory? 2. B because the ball is dead once it hits the batter who is out? 3. C because technically a pitch was thrown to the next batter which negates any possible batting out of order appeal from the previous one? 4. A because the action of the runner at 3B h...

Re: FIX THIS RULE! (please)

Respectfully, we're trying to protect the catcher and the runner. Why would we care where the ball is? If the catcher is "in the vicinity" of the plate, and has a right to be "in the vicinity" (not blocking it), then the rule should apply regardless if the ball is catchable or n...

Re: FIX THIS RULE! (please)

Its completely asinine that you want to eliminate the "catchable ball" factor tho. I never said I wanted to eliminate it. I'm saying it's not in the rule so it shouldn't be a factor. If Les wants to put it in the rule, then I'm fine with that, he should do it, otherwise, umpires should ad...

Re: League Schedules Fall 2018

Since the Sunday over-40 league is over, can the Sunday coed B-championship be played at the Quarry starting at 2:00 instead of Cedar Hill? Or is it specifically at Cedar Hill for a reason?

Re: FIX THIS RULE! (please)

Thanks for re-posting the rule, Les. I still don't see ANYTHING about the ball being "catchable", nor do I see anything that states that the BALL" needs to be "in the vicinity". If the ball isn't catch-able, then the fielder isn't about to receive it. Therefore, there's no ...

Re: FIX THIS RULE! (please)

I don't care about the ball. The rule states that the FIELDER is there, about to receive the ball. The location of the ball is the determining factor. A fielder who is ready to receive a ball and a fielder who is about to receive a ball are two very different things. You can be standing there ready...

Re: FIX THIS RULE! (please)

"'Play at the plate' shall refer to any instance where a fielder is ‘about to receive the ball’." And I know you do not believe that a ball headed to the parking lot is being received by the catcher. The only thing the catcher should care about at that moment is: 1. Who's car or person is...

Re: FIX THIS RULE! (please)

If there is a play at the plate, whether the catcher catches the ball or not and the runner does not slide, hold the plate, or surrender, the runner should be called out for safety's sake. I feel like calling the rule this way could get dicey because it would be much easier for a catcher to just no...
