Re: 2019 USA Softball Rule Changes with Comments

I would not love doing the stats for that game!

Re: Bernie Marsh (RIP)

Thanks for letting us know, Les - very sad.

I didn't know Bernie well, but I did play against him a number of times over the years. He seemed like a great guy and competitor. I know he had built good friendships throughout SBA.

Thank you, Les! Makes sense now.

Hoping that the rain in the forecast tomorrow will hold off until the games are completed. :|

Re: Monday Evening Coed / Fall 2018

I'm curious to know what happened with the Monday Coed games that were re-re-rescheduled for Friday, November 2nd. Based on the fact that only 4 out of 7 of the games are now scheduled for Monday, November 12th, I would have assumed that 3 of the games were decided (either played or forfeited). Les'...

Re: Monday Evening Coed / Fall 2018

If you count Friday's partial rainout, this is like the 5th time this set of games has been postponed! Uncanny. Possibly a conspiracy.

Fly ball at or near fence knocked over the fence by outfielder

In one of my Monday Coed games at the Hatfield field this fall, an interesting scoring situation arose: A fly ball was hit to the fence. In attempting to make a play, the outfielder unintentionally knocked the ball over the fence. In some cases, this could be deemed an error, but in this particular ...

Re: Monday Evening Coed / Fall 2018

It appears that scheduling this particular set of games is a certain way to ensure that heavy rain will happen on the chosen date. Forecast not looking good for Friday.

What a year for weather overall.

Re: Scorekeeper's Corner

Thank you for bringing this topic back, Les! The sacrifice fly/error scenario happened again just on Monday this week in a game I was involved in.

Hopefully we can get more contributions to this thread. Lots of great information here.

Re: Marsh Family 1-Pitch Tournament / Fall 2018

I am not part of a managing tandem for this tournament, but for what it's worth, I think that Shanna makes a great point. If you did add a 9th team, that team would not get a 1st round bye, unless I'm mistaken. Rather, that team would play against one of the other 8 teams to get to the "first r...

Re: Horsham Township Ball Fields

Les -
While I'm sorry that you may be posting this based on the need to justify your moves, I do appreciate the detailed updates on the behind-the-scenes work slated for the Quarry (and other fields). Thank you for devoting your time and energy to all of these improvements!

Re: Marsh Family 1-Pitch Tournament / Fall 2018

Ah, so the "minimum" was in reference to the total eddie count of 32 (4 per team). Great, makes sense!

Thanks for clarifying the batting order question too. That has interesting strategic implications for both drafting a team and constructing batting orders. Pretty cool!

Re: Marsh Family 1-Pitch Tournament / Fall 2018

Les, Could you please clarify this aspect of the tournament? Sorry if this is explained elsewhere and I missed it. "5. Batting line-ups must consist of alternating core/eddie beginning with the first or second batter. " But first, I would also like to clarify these numbers: "Along wit...

Re: League MVP Candidates / Spring 2018

Bob - A regular season statistician can probably provide a more certain answer than me (I do post-season stats), but I suspect that the asterisks indicate how many forfeited games a team was involved in. This has implications on the calculation of average runs against per game, which is used as a st...

Sunday Men's Postseason Stats

I had hoped to have the postseason stats for Sunday Men’s ready today, but they will be delayed until later this week. My wife is on a trip this week and she needed our laptop on which the stat software resides. If all goes as planned, I should be able to enter the stats for the championship series ...

Pitch hits the white surface of home plate and the back black edge - ball or strike?

I seem to recall it being said on this message board that a pitch that lands on home plate can not be called a strike. The reasoning was along the lines that a 6-14’ arc pitch cannot physically pass through the strike zone and land on home plate (barring extremely strong headwinds, I suppose). If I ...

Re: Few Players Needed WednesdayCoed

Anthony - The summer season for Wednesday Coed will begin on Wednesday, June 20th. Game start times are 6:30, 7:45, 9:00, and 10:15 PM at the Eureka Quarry field and 7:00, 8:15, and 9:30 PM at the Hatfield field. Wednesday Coed is a fun league and SBA is a great organization - I hope you do decide t...

Re: Weather Forecast

Les - for Saturday makeup games, are Game Line updates typically recorded under the option for the corresponding league (e.g., option 5 for Wednesday Coed) or at the "main menu" level as you did for the Memorial Day tournament updates? For June 2, I believe all makeup games are for Wednesd...
