Game 1: Dirt Stars vs. Amber Inn

Dirt Stars start off hot in this one, plating four runs in the top of the first (all with two outs) thanks to three consecutive singles and a two run double from Brett Rumer. In the bottom of the frame, Amber Inn respond with a run as Bill Steinburg doubles and was knocked in by Marc McKinney. In the top of the third, Dan Owens cranked a leadoff dinger and Dirt Stars follow him with four singles, a sac fly, and a bases loaded walk to score another four runs. Amber Inn push two across the dish in the bottom of the third, with Marc McKinney collecting two more RBIs on a base knock. The next inning, they continue to close the gap by scoring twice more on a pair of singles and a John Fine double. Marc McKinney continues his big game with an RBI triple to bring Amber Inn to an 8-7 deficit. Dirt Stars, feeling the pressure, force an error and hit a double, then follow that with two sac flies to take a three run lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Bill Steinburg launched a two-out, two-run homer, but Amber Inn would fly out to end the game just short. Dirt Stars edge past Amber Inn 10-9.

Man of the Match: Brett Rumer (2-3, R, SF, 2B, 3 RBI)

Game 2: Dirt Stars vs. SCLSU Mud Dogs

Getting on the board first, Dirt Stars get a double from Joe Carpino and he scored the only run of the top of the first on a sac fly. In the bottom of the frame, Mud Dogs tie it up with one run thanks to a double off the bat of Matt Figueroa. In the top of the second, Dirt Stars put a lot of distance between themselves and their opponent. They send 17 men to the plate, hitting 9 singles, a double from Shawn Mackley, triples from Joe Carpino and Brett Rumer, and a three run big fly from Dan Curran as they explode for 13 runs. In the top of the third, Paul Rainer doubled and scored another run for Dirt Stars, now up 14-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Mud Dogs wake up a little bit thanks to a Brian Figueroa leadoff triple they followed with a pair of singles to score a pair of runs. In the top of the fifth, Dirt Stars expand on their lead, forcing an error, poking two singles, smacking two doubles, and getting a rare two-run sac fly to plate four more. Matt Figueroa roped a double in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a sac fly, but Mud Dogs only managed that one run and this one ends early due to the mercy rule. Dirt Stars smash Mud Dogs 19-4.

Man of the Match: Joe Carpino (3-4, 3 R, 2-2B, 3B, 3 RBI)

Game 1: Bulldogs vs. Tropics

Bulldogs set the tone early with 11 runs in the top of the first with 7 singles, doubles from CC Witt and Mike Suda, and dingers from John Hogan and Anthony Depaul. Tropics get a pair of runs back in the bottom of the first as Greg Thompson launched a two run bomb. Anthony Bates’ leadoff homer tacked on another run for Bulldogs in the top of the second. Then, they followed it up with five in the top of the third on four singles and another dinger from Anthony Bates. Bulldogs continue to roll in the top of the fourth, plating seven runs on doubles from Paul Burtis and Anthony Bates and triples from Mike Suda and CC Witt. Down a huge amount in the bottom of the fourth, Tropics manage to scrape a run back by forcing an error and poking a single, but the deficit was too much to overcome the mercy rule. Bulldogs destroy Tropics 24-3 in just four innings.

Man of the Match: Anthony Bates (3-4, 4 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI)

Game 2: Philly’s Phinest vs. Dirty Dozen

In the top of the first, Philly’s Phinest manage to plate three with Tony Summers and Mike SMith each collecting an RBI on a double and triple, respectively. Dirty Dozen match them in the bottom of the frame with Ben Vitelli ripping a double and Angelo Vitantonio cranking a two-run shot into the cheap seats. Mike Repici doubled for Philly’s Phinest in the top of the second, helping them score two and retake the lead. Again, Dirty Dozen are up to the task and knot the game back up at five on a leadoff triple from Mark Meredith, a double from Kyle Landis, and an error. A pair of walks and a single give Philly’s Phinest a run and the slimmest of leads. In the bottom of the fourth, Mark Meredith drives in a pair of runs on a sac fly as Dirty Dozen take their first lead of the game at 7-6. They tack on another run in each of the fifth and sixth innings thanks to Kyle Simms doubling and scoring and a solo homer from Anthony Mumenthaler. In the top of the seventh, Philly’s Phinest return to the scoresheet with four runs by forcing two errors, hitting a single, and getting doubles off the bats of Valentino Mendez and Fran Kober to restore a one run lead. In the final frame, Dirty Dozen manage two singles and advance a runner to third, but would end up failing to score. Philly’s Phinest battle their way past Dirty Dozen, winning 10-9.

Man of the Match: Mike Smith (1-4, 2 R, 3B, 2 RBI)
