Game 1: Amber Inn vs. The Tropics

Amber Inn get on the board quickly by plating a pair in the top of the first via singles and an error. Shawn Thome rips a triple in the bottom of the frame to plate two for Tropics, tying the game. After a pair of two out singles, Carl Ervin doubles and pushes two runs across the dish as Amber Inn retake their lead in the top of the second. They keep rolling in the top of the third as Bill Harper and Kevin Noone each providing a two-run double, totalling four more runs. In the bottom of the third, Brian Sexton leads off with a triple and The Tropics follow him with three singles and force an error to score a pair. Amber Inn keep scoring in the top of the fourth thanks to Bruce Snyder driving in a pair on a base knock. A Greg Thompson Grand Slam accounts for all of Tropics runs in the bottom of the fourth as they cut their deficit to two. Starting the top of the fifth with a leadoff triple by Dave Graves, Amber Inn draw a walk, force an error, and poke a couple of singles to score three more runs. Three singles in the bottom of the fifth net Tropics one run. After forcing Amber Inn to go down in order in the sixth and seventh, Tropics approach their final turn at the plate in a four run hole. They force an error and poke a pair of singles before a two run Single from Greg Thompson and an RBI double from Jay Mykrantz bring them within one run with two outs. Brian McMenamin steps to the plate and rips a single, scoring two runs as Tropics walk off on Amber Inn, winning 14-13.

Game 2: Amber Inn vs. Philly’s Phinest

Amber Inn open the scoring for the second game in a row, plating one run on a sac fly in the top of the first. Philly’s Phinest get a two run bomb off the bat of Ray Rocks to take a one run lead in the bottom of the frame. In the top of the third, Amber Inn retake the lead with a three run frame thanks to a sac fly and a two run single from Bruce Snyder. Philly’s Phinest match them in the bottom of the third, retaking a one run lead on a pair of walks, three straight singles, and a sac fly. Amber Inn get doubles from Kevin Noone, Jeff Johnson, and Bruce Snyder to plate two and take a one run lead in the top of the fourth. Philly’s Phinest keep the back and forth going as they bat around with five singles, an RBI double from Mike Repici, and a two run triple from Valentino Mendez scoring seven runs. Amber Inn respond with a pair of runs on a John Fine base knock in the top of the fifth. Then, in the top of the seventh, they rack up five runs on four singles, doubles from Kevin Noone and Carl Ervin, and a triple from John Graves, giving them a late one run lead. A leadoff single followed by a one out triple fromm Tony Summers ties the game up, then a pair of walks sets up John Quartullo to be the hero with his walk off single. Philly’s Phinest walk off on Amber Inn, handing them their second 14-13 defeat of the morning.

Game 4: Dirt Stars vs. Bulldogs

Bulldogs strike first, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first on a sac fly and doubles from John Hogan and Paul Burtis. The next inning, Anthony Bates launches a two run dinger to double Bulldogs’ lead. A pair of singles and John Stover’s double push three men across the dish for Bulldogs in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the fourth, they keep rolling. Eight singles, doubles from John Hogan and Anthony Bates, two triples from Mike Suda, and an Anthony Bates three run big fly total 12 runs for Bulldogs as they go up 19. Playing with eight men and dealing with an automatic out proved to be too much for Dirt Stars who see their day come to an end after going down 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth. Bulldogs steamroll Dirt Stars 19-0.

Man of the Match: Anthony Bates (3-3, 3R, HR, 3 RBI)



Lukens III

Game 4: Mud Dogs vs.Dirty Dozen

Mug Dogs waste no time scoring as Josh Figueroa stars the game off with a leadoff homer followed by four singles and a walk to finish the opening frame with four runs. They tack on two more in the top of the second with Matt Figueroa’s double and a two run base knock from Same Matos. Dirty Dozen make their first appearance on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second as James McHale ripped a double, then a fielder’s choice and two singles get their first run. In the bottom of the third, Dirty Dozen tie the game with five runs on six singles and doubles from Mike Ivers and James McHale. In the bottom of the fourth, they add a lot of separation. Nearly batting around before recording an out, Matt Wass smacked a double, Ben Vitelli ripped a two run triple, and Angelo Vitantonio crushed a two run bomb as Dirty Dozen put up 10 runs. In the top of the sixth, Mud Dogs manage to scrape three runs back by drawing a walk, poking a couple singles, and Matt Figueroa supplying an RBI double. Back-to-back doubles off the bats of Mark Meredith and James McHale plus a single and fielder’s choice plate another two runs for Dirty Dozen in the bottom of the sixth. They manage to hold Mud Dogs off the scoresheet in the seventh to close the game out. Dirty Dozen double up on Mud Dogs, winning 18-9.
