Game 1: Bulldogs vs. Amber Inn

Bulldogs jump on the board early with five in the top of the first on three singles and doubles from John Hogan, Anthony Bates, and CC Witt. Amber Inn respond in the bottom of the frame thanks to a sac fly plating leadoff man Jeff Johnson. In the top of the second, a sac fly and a base knock end up scoring two for Bulldogs. The next inning, Bulldogs score two more, this time on five base hits. In the top of the fourth, Paul Burtis launched a leadoff homer to score Bulldogs’ only run. Amber Inn get back on the scoresheet in the bottom of the fifth thanks in large part to Corey Carlen’s two run double, totalling three runs in the frame. The top of the sixth is a big on for Bulldogs, with Shawn Dunn smacking a two run double and Paul Burtis roping a two run triple to plate seven runs and open a huge lead. For Amber Inn, Bill Steinberg smacks a solo dinger to plate their only run of the sixth. Anthony Bates launched a three run bomb in the top of the seventh, adding insurance runs for Bulldogs. Amber Inn then go down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh, capping off a huge 20-5 victory for Bulldogs.

Man of the Match: Anthony Bates (3-5, 3 R, 2B, HR, 5 RBI)

Game 2: Dirty Dozen vs. Bulldogs

Mike Ivers and Mark Meredith start this game off with back-to-back triples, helping Dirty Dozen get on the board with three runs in the top of the first. After starting the bottom of the first with two outs, Bulldogs draw a walk, poke two singles, and get a double from Anthony Bates to plate a pair. Scoring would take a break until the top of the fifth when a walk, a sac fly, three singles and doubles from Anthony Mumenthaler and James McHale add up to a five run inning for Dirty Dozen. Kyle Simms ripped a triple in the top of the sixth for Dirty Dozen, but he got thrown out at home, so only one run would be added. In the top of the sixth, Angelo Vitantonio provided the fireworks for Dirty Dozen, smacking a two run big fly to give Dirty Dozen a nine run lead headed into the final frame. Anthony Bates led the inning off with a single and would score, but Bulldogs would fall well short of a comeback. Dirty Dozen defeat Bulldogs 11-3.

Man of the Match: James McHale (3-4, 2-2B, 2 RBI)

Game 3: Philly’s Phinest vs. Dirt Stars

Mike Rocks Jr. smacked an RBI triple and Philly’s Phinest added a single and a sac fly to plate a pair in the top of the first inning. Dirt Stars responded with patience, drawing five walks and hitting only one single to score three and quickly take the lead in the bottom of the frame. Joe Carpino led the bottom of the second off with a double and later scored to double the Dirt Stars lead. Three singles and a fielder’s choice lead to another run for Dirt Stars in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the fourth, they bat around by drawing four walks, smacking four singles, sacrificing once, and with Shawn Mackley smoking a two-run double as seven runs are added to Dirt Stars’ total. Philly’s Phinest return to the scoreboard in the top of the sixth as a single, a sac fly, and a Chris Rocks triple plate a pair of runs. Dirt Stars, however, keep rolling as Jerry White provides a two run double and the rest of the squad pitches in with a pair of singles and three more walks to tally three runs. Philly’s Phinest wouldn’t be able to muster a run in their final turn at the dish as they fall to Dirt Stars 15-4.

Man of the Match: Jerry White (3-4, R, BB, 2B, 5 RBI)

Game 4: Harrigan’s Pub vs. SCLSU Mud Dogs

A rather rare occurrence, both teams in this one played with a nine-man lineup. Harrigan’s jump out to an early two run lead as Greg Thompson’s RBI triple and a pair of singles lead to a pair of runs. In the top of the second, they extend their advantage by three on four base knocks and a fielder’s choice. Mud Dogs wake up in the bottom of the sixth and manage to bat around by forcing two errors, poking three singles, and getting doubles from Matt and Brian Figueroa to score six runs and take the lead. In the bottom of the fourth, they tack on a pair of runs as Matt Figueroa smacked another double and Sam Matos drove in both runs on a base hit. Kavit Solanki led the bottom of the fifth off with a solo bomb, tacking on one more run for Mud Dogs. Harrigan’s start the top of the sixth off with three straight singles and a sac fly, then Shawn Thome smacks a double as they score three and cut their deficit to just one run. They hold Mud Dogs silent in the bottom of the sixth and manage to put two men on base in the top of the seventh, but would fail to score. Mud Dogs edge Harrigan’s, winning 9-8.

Man of the Match: Matt Figueroa (3-4, 2 R, 2-2B)
