B North Opening Day

Twas the first week of softball and all across suburban Philadelphia grown men dusted off their cleats, attempted to stretch for the first time in months and ran it out on the field to battle for softball glory.


Game 1: Bulldogs v. One Hit Wonders

For the Bulldogs, Paul Burtis put a hurtis on the softball as he crushed two run homer in each of his first two at bats and smacked a double to cap off a 3-4 day with 5 RBI and 4 runs scored. Anthony Bates was a recipient of those RBIs as he reached base 3 times and scored all 3 times going 2 for 4 on the day. Veteran slugger Mike Suda also has a strong start to the season going 3-4 with two doubles.
The OHWs got strong performances from two hitter Mike Trivino, perennial MVP candidate Andy Springer and always reliable Jared Owens. On this day Mikey T. was the catalyst at the top of the lineup as he went 3-4 on the day with two singles, a double and two runs scored. Both runs came via huge hacks from Springer who doubled in the 1st inning and tripled in the 3rd, finishing the day with 3 RBI. Jared Owens carried the bottom of the lineup as he smacked two singles finishing 2-3.

Final Score: Bulldogs 9 - OHWs 5


Game 2: Wire 2 Wire v Dark Horse

Wire 2 Wire is believed to be the first SBA team sponsored by a podcast (which can be found at https://www.youtube.com/user/PlayItToxic or on facebook weekly) In their first inning with under the new banner, the former Ballz Deepers, smack home 5 huge runs to start their season off right. For the podcasters, both Adrian Reyes and Jacob McDevitt went 2-3 with a walk and two singles and both Matt Hunn and Alex Metz smoked doubles on their way to 2-3 efforts.
Dark Horse looked poised to make another championship run as they hammered home 10 runs in the first two innings. Leading the way for the Dark Horses was quick Nick Mariani who went 4-4 with two doubles and 4 runs scored. Ryan Schock also smackd two doubles and a ton of batters added at least 1 hit on the day.


Final Score: Dark Horse 14 - Wire2Wire 10


Game 3: Wire2Wire v Misfits

Did I mention that you can receive hot takes about a wide variety of sports topics from local podcasters weekly on the Wire2wire facebook page? Similar to theirs shows once W2W got rolling it was something to behold as they exploded for 20 runs over the last 5 innings of the game. Highlights included Greg Guarino going 3-3 with a 3 run homer, mean Gene going 3-4 and being only a homer shy of the cycle, and Matt Nixon logging a 3-3 game with a double.
The Misfits did their damage early in the one as they hammered home 7 runs in the middle of the game. Rico Jones led the way for the boys in black and red as he tallied a single and a triple going 2-3. SBA veteran Tim Graf started the season perfect as he went 3-3 with 3 singles. Ty “slim” Allen also started the season perfect as he went 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk.

Game 4: Yankee Clippers v Misfits


The Clips got off to a decent start this season as they hammered home 8 runs in the opener. Brain “big mac” Macguire went 2-3 with a triple to lead the way. Also providing highlights were Kai Browner who cranked the first dinger of the season as well as Nick Wasekanes, Brian DeCaeserie, Mike McDevitt, Nick Todd and Nick Bralucas who all went 2-3.
The Misfits found their mojo in their 2nd game of the day as they smacked home 19 runs over 7 innings, highlighted by a 7 run first inning. Paving the way for the scoring parade was Tim Graf who went 4-4, Ty Allen, Jimmy Cooker, and Zac Downs who went 3-4 each, and eagle eyed Chris Quinn who managed 3 walks on his way to a 1-1 performance.


Final Score: Yankee Clippers 19 - Misfits 8
