B North 5/23

Post by Jmill1734 »

5/23

In a Spring that has been relatively nice on Sundays for a rare change, B North is coming down to the wire and setting up for another exciting round of playoff action. Let’s take a look at how teams fared this week and preview the next week of softball action.

Game 1: Yankee Clippers v Wire2Wire

Wire2Wire would push 3 runs across over the first two innings via their mental and intestinal fortitude to stand in the box and watch pitches. They would add 5 in the 3rd on more walks and doubles from Matt Huhn and Matt Nixon. Errors and singles would push across a run for the Clippers in the top of the 4th to narrow the gap. GIving up a run sparked the podcasters to drop a 10 run scoring bonanza on the Clips in the bottom half of the inning with doubles from Greg Guarino and Gene Walczak highlighting the barrage. 3 straight singles would plate another one for the Yankee Clippers in the top of the 5th but that is all they can muster in this one.

FInal Score: Wire2Wire 19 - Yankees 2

Game 2: Bulldogs v Yankee Clippers

For the Bulldogs, Mike Suda is heating up at the right time as he cranks a homer to highlight a 6 run first inning. The Clippers would answer immediately as a double from John Bennett helped plate a run. Three singles from the top of the order with plate two more for the dogs in the 2nd. The Clippers made a huge dent in that lead in the bottom of the 2nd as a Nick Wasekanes homer and more singles than a night at the bar plate 4. Neither team could get much going until late in this one a doubles from Suda, CC Witt and Matt Nagle would push across 7 for the dogs. After sneaking in a run in the 6th, the Clippers, down 8 would launch a monster rally, scoring 6 on a ton of singles and another Wasekanes homer, setting up a two out, bases loaded at bat for Connor Laigaiui but all he could muster was a fly to left.

Final Score: Bulldogs 15 - Yankee Clippers 13

Game 3: Bulldogs v Dark Horse

The Bulldogs couldn’t get much going in this one as they pate 1 in the first on an Anthony Bates double, 2 in the 4th on singles and 2 in the 6th on walks and a fielder’s choice. Team Dark Horse minus key cog Paul Ferruzzi, struggles early too only plating 2 runs over the first four innings on singles and errors. Trailing by one in the 4th they would plate 4 to take a 6-3 lead as four straight singles from the bottom of the order did the damage. After the dogs cut the lead to one, Dark Horse would add 8 more runs by way of more singles than a speed dating convention at the Chinese Buffet.

Final Score: Dark Horse 14 - Bulldogs 5

Game 4: Dark Horse v One Hit Wonders

Another sterling defensive performance from Dark Horse held the Wonders to 5 runs. The Wonders broke through in the 1st with a run on singles, 2 runs in the 3rd on four straight hits and 2 runs in the 4th the same way. Dark Horse cranked out a huge 11 run first inning as they walked more than I do attempting a 5k, combined with doubles from Ryan Schock (2) Jason H (2) and Zach Adams. They tacked on four more in the 2nd on singles. Capping their scoring, six of the first seven batters in the 3rd would singled and Zach Adams would crush a 3 run homer, icing the game.

Final Score: Dark Horse 22 - Wonders 5

Game 5: Misfits v Dirty Dozen

In a rare B North Quarry game, both teams decided it would be fun to play 8 vs 8 with no catchers. The Misfits would snatch 3 runs in the 1st on a triple from Eric Tidwell and a double from Rico Jones. Doubles from Jarrett Kerns, Todd Gibson and Jim Lalley (rumor is the ball rolled 100 feet) knotted the score for the DDs in the bottom of the inning. Doubles from Jim Kash, Tidwell, and Ty Allen would push across 3 more for the men in red in the 2nd. Mike Ivers channeling his inner Tom Ivers, would double and plate a run in the 3rd for the DDs. Singles and another Rico Jones double would help the Misfits plate 4 in the 4th. The egg carton would plate two in the bottom of the 5th to cut the deficit. After errors plate two for the Misfits in the 6th the Dozen would smack home two of their own as Justin Kelly cranked a homer.

Final score: Misfits 12 - Dirty Dozen 8

Looking forward…

Wire2Wire takes their 5-1 record to the Quarry to face perennial challengers the One Hit Wonders in a must win game for the Wonders as they look to position themselves in the middle of the playoff race.

DIrty Dozen takes on both the Yankee Clippers and a strong Dark Horse squad who looks to compete for the number 1 seed in the North. If John Erb actually shows up this week and doesn’t cost his squad 4 outs like last week, they have a shot to win both in what should be two highly competitive matchups.

In what could be the game of the day the 3-3 Bulldogs battle the 4-2 Misfits in a matchup of legit contenders. Whoever comes out of this clash of the titans will be in great position to make a deep playoff push.
