Groveland

Game 1: Misfits vs. Amber Inn

Misfits jump right out of the gate, taking advantage of three straight walks to start the game, an error, and getting run scoring doubles from Rico Jones and Chris Woodrow as they bat around and score seven. Amber Inn get on the board in the bottom of the first as Marc McKinney drove in one run. Joe Torres smacked a leadoff homer in the top of the second as Misfits add two runs to their total. In the bottom of the third, Amber Inn plate four thanks to Marc McKinney and Bill Harper each driving in a pair on a single and double, respectively. Misfits add another run in the top of the fourth on a Tommy O’Neill base knock. In the bottom of the fourth, Amber Inn get an RBI double from Marc McKinney and a two run big fly from Corey Carlen on their way to six runs and their first lead of the game. Misfits go down 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth and Amber Inn tack on another run thank to a Bryon McMackin two bagger as they take a two run lead. Chris Quinn leads off the top of the sixth with a double for Misfits and Glen Davis drives him in, but they’d fall just one run short. Amber Inn come back to top Misfits 12-11.

CB West

Game 1: Billy Goats vs. Dirty Dozen

After Billy Goats go down 1-2-3 in the opening frame, Dirty Dozen hang 12 runs in their half of the inning. They bat around, taking advantage of a walk and four errors, and tack on doubles from Nick and Ben Vitelli, a two run bomb from Nick Vitelli, and three run dingers from Angelo Vitantonio and Kyle Hutter.

Man of the First Inning: Nick Vitelli (2-2, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI)

Billy Goats start to claw their way back starting in the top of the second as their first four batters hit consecutive singles on their way to three runs. In the third, they plate another two thanks to a couple walks, an error, a single, and a Mark Mandel double. Dirty Dozen answer back with four of their own on two-baggers from Kyle Landis, Anthony Mumenthaler, Angelo Vitantonio, and Mike Roche, and a Ben Vitelli triple. An RBI triple from Bill Miller and a sac fly net two more runs for Billy Goats in the top of the fourth. Dirty Dozen get three runs, all with two outs, in the bottom of the fourth on a walk, an error, and three singles. In the top of the fifth, Bill Miller draws a bases loaded walk to plate the only run for Billy Goats. In the bottom of the fifth, Dirty Dozen get a leadoff triple from Angelo Vitantonio as he completes the cycle, Todd Gibson smacks a double, and a few singles add up to four runs to call in the mercy rule. Dirty Dozen slaughter Billy Goats 23-8.

Hatfield

Game 1: Holding Hands with Hookers vs. Tropics

HHWH jump out to a quick three run lead in the top of the first with Gary Brooks providing the highlight, ripping a triple. In the top of the second, they plate two more on singles with Gary Brooks and Ryan Burke driving the runs in. In the bottom of the frame, Tropics string a walk and four singles together to generate three runs thanks to Tim Simmons, Chris Charlanzia, and Bryan McMenamin. A Dan Curran base knock produces a lone run for HHWH in the top of the third. In response, Tropics hang one themselves when Jay Mykrantz scored on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the third. In the fourth, Adam Schwartz leads off for Tropics with a two-bagger and gets driven in by John Norman for another run. In the bottom of the sixth, Tropics tie the game at 6 with another one run inning thanks to a John Norman single. Meanwhile, HHWH manage only one hit in the fourth, then are retired in order in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to find themselves playing defense to preserve the tie. Tropics come out in the bottom of the seventh and get back to back doubles from Jay Mykrantz and Mark Guityaris to set up Shawn Thome’s walk off base hit. Tropics survive Holding Hands with Hookers and win 7-6.

Man of the Match: Jay Mykrantz (3-4, 2 R, 2-2B)

Game 2: Philly’s Phinest vs. Santucci’s

Philly’s Phinest strikes first with one in each of the first three frames, taking advantage of a few walks, an error, and some base knocks on the way to a three run lead. Santucci’s show up in the bottom of the third, tying the game on the backs of Anthony Magallanes and Shawn Mackley’s doubles. Philly’s Phinest open their lead right back up with four runs in the top of the fifth ona sac fly, a two run base knock from Valentino Mendez, and an RBI double from Mike Rocks Sr. Santucci’s manage one run in the bottom of the frame as Tyler DiPietro led off with a solo Hatfield Special. In the sixth, Santucci’s managed another four, this time with six singles. Right there to match them, Santucci’s plates four of their own thanks to four walks,and a Shawn Mackley double. In the top of the seventh, Philly’s Phinest pad their lead with a pair of runs driven in by Ryan Hall. In the bottom, Jerry White from Santucci’s rips a triple and scored their only run on a sac fly. Philly’s Phinest outscore Santucci’s 13-9.

Man of the Match: Valentino Mendez (2-3, R, BB, 4 RBI)
