 B North 6/10/18

Crunch time: As playoff seeds are being determined, the cream is rising to the top of the B North division. Who will make a run at this year’s title? A former champion? A defending champion? The 6 seed on a Cinderella run? Let’s take a look at how things shook out in week 7.

Game 1: X-Phils v Insurance Runs

The X-Phils struck first in this tilt as they are able to plate 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning via four singles, a fielder’s choice, and Steve Pfeifer double. Unfortunately for the X-Phils they would only muster two more runs the rest of the way in this one. They would pick up a run in the 4th on a Brendan Burrows double and another in the 6th on an RBI double from Jamie Kracht. The majority of this game turned into an Insurance Runs slug fest. In the 1st inning they plated 5 via walks, singles, and a Matt Freidman double. In the 2nd they would add four more runs by way of a few singles, doubles by Shane Hannan and Dan Miller, and a triple from Freedman. In the 5th inning they would plate 7 runs in a bat around highlighted by doubles from Joe Rowan and Keith Meduzia. Keeping true to their name, they would go on to close the door with 4 more runs in the 6th inning as singles and errors would push the runs across.

Final Score: IR 20 – XP 5

Game 2: One Hit Wonders v Ballz Deep

OHW gets on the board first in this one as they are able to score 2 runs in the top of the first via singles and errors. Ballz Deep was able to cut the deficit in half as singles from the middle of the order scored 1. They would then go on to knot the game in the bottom of the 2nd as singles once again would plate a run. Jake Heaton crushed a double for OHWs in the 3rd to score a run and give them a one run lead once again. Answering the call, BD got the run right back with an error and a fielder’s choice. Both teams would score a run again in the 4th inning as OHWs used singles to score and BD got their run via a Jason Falcone double. Just for fun, both teams would also score four runs apiece in the 5th inning as OHWs would score with singles and errors, while BD did their damage with singles and doubles from Sean Butrica and Justin Glennon. Singles and a triple by Jared Owens scored 3 huge runs for OHWs in the top of the 7th inning but because these teams were so ridiculously even on this day, Balls Deep decided to score 3 runs too via the single to take it to extra innings. In extra innings Ballz Deep got the all important run in the bottom of the 8th inning as back to back fly balls would score Justin Glennon, to win the game!

Final Score: BD 12 – OHWs 11

Game 3: Yankee Clippers v Bulldogs

The Bulldogs got the party started as they would plate two runs in the bottom of the 1st via a Dave Nagle RBI double. They would extend their lead by two more in the 2nd inning as Erick Io (? Hard to read in the book) cranked a two run homer. The Yankee Clippers would get on the board in the top of the 3rd as errors and singles plate 2 runs. In the bottom half of the inning the Bulldogs scored another run as Mike Suda launched a double and scored on a sac fly. Cutting into the deficit in a major way the YCs got two runs in the 4th inning on errors and another 2 in the top of the 5th via a solo homer from Frank Kealey, a triple from Brian McGuire, and a double from John Bennett. In the bottom half of the inning the Dogs tied the game up as Dave Nagle came up with a big double which pushed across a run. In the 6th the YCs would regain the lead as walks, errors and sac flies scored the runs. Talking the team in what would prove to be a winning fashion, the Bulldogs scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th as a walk and four singles plate the runs.

Final Score: Bds 9 – YC 8

Game 4: Snipers v Yankee Clippers

The Snipers would spread out their scoring over four innings in this tilt. In the 1st they are able to plate on singles and a Dave Shannon double. Walks and singles would plate two more runs for the Snipers in the top of the 3rd. A single and a homerun from that bad, bad man Dave Shannon would score two additional runs. Capping their scoring for the day, the Snipers also got two runs in the 6th inning as Dave Shannon continued to pound the rock with an RBI double and John Dellibatti followed him up with a double of his own, giving them 9 runs on the game. The YC did a ton of damage early in this game as they got 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st in large part due to triples from Brian K. and Dan Wilson. Walks singles, and a Kai Browner triple would plate 3 more runs for the Clippers in the 2nd. A single and a sac fly would score what would prove to be an important run in the bottom of the 4th as it set the scene for John Bennett to smoke a game winning single scoring Kai Browner in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Final Score YC 9 – Snips 8
Game 5: Dark Horse v Snipers
Dark Horse got the scoring going in the top of the 1st as they would score a run on three singles. A 3rd inning explosion would plate 6 for DH as they would bat around and do a lot of the damage on singles and a Bill Jones triple. Singles and errors would help DH plate two additional runs in the top of the 6th. Finally capping their scoring, DH scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th via a fielder’s choice and four straight singles from the bottom and top of the order. The Snipers would take an early lead as Dave Shannon continued to pummel the ball, this time for a two RBI double in the bottom of the 1st. Three straight singles would score two more for the Snipers in the bottom of the 4th. They would also plate two runs in the 6th inning as Mike Z. smoked a two RBI single. Down 7 in the final from back to back singles would plate a run but that was all they would be able to muster in this one.

Final Score: DH 13 – Snips 7
