Hatfield

Game 1: Misfits vs. Philly’s Phinest

Misfits get on the board first with Walt Zolna crushing a Hatfield Special (solo homer) into the trees. Philly’s Phinest respond with a four run bottom of the first, taking the lead on a Mike Rocks, Sr. RBI double, a Ray Rocks sac fly, and an Ed Rocks two run big fly. In the top of the third, Misfits get another Walt Zolna dinger, this time for three runs, as they tie the game. In the bottom of the frame, Philly’s Phinest play small ball to plate five runs, drawing a walk and hitting six singles. Glen Davis launches a two run bomb for Misfits in the top of the fourth. Philly’s Phinest get one of those back as Ryan Hall singled in a run in the bottom of the fourth. They follow that up with a Valentino Mendez two run triple and get another driven in by Ray Rocks, plating three more to take a 13-6 lead. Down seven in the top of the seventh, Jimmy Cooker leads the inning off with a Hatfield Special, but Misfits would strad two runners and fall well short of a comeback. Philly’s Phinest prevail 13-7.

Man of the Match: Mike Rocks, Sr. (3-3, 3 R, 2B, 2 RBI)


Game 2: Santucci’s vs. Tropics

In the top of the first, Santucci’s jump out to a two run lead off the bat of Zach Victor, who launched a two run dinger. Tropics get on the board with one in the bottom of the first, thanks to a sac fly. In the bottom of the second, they plate another and tie it up on an Adam Schwartz base knock. Tropics then take the lead on a Jay Mykrantz RBI double plus Mark Gualtieri and Brian Sexton driving in runs, totalling three. In the top of the fourth, Misfits have a huge inning, each player getting to the dish twice. They drew only one walk, hit 11 singles, got doubles from Joe Carpino, Jerry White, and Keith Minch, and got three run bombs from Tyler DiPietro and Sean Mackley as they score 15 runs and take a 17-5 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Shawn Thome leads off with a double and scored for Tropics on a sac fly. In the top of the fifth, Santucci’s adds another pair of runs as Joe Carpino and Tyler DiPietro each drive in a run on a sac fly and a single, respectively. In the bottom of the sixth, Tropics answer back in a big way, batting around by drawing four walks, hitting five singles, and capping it off with Rick Brauning smacking a Grand Slam as they push eight men across the dish, cutting a huge chunk out of Santucci’s lead. In the bottom of the seventh, down five, Tropics get a leadoff walk, hit three singles, and score one on a fielder’s choice before drawing four more walk, two with the bases loaded, plating a total of five runs and tying the game! In the top of the eighth, Misfits go down 1-2-3, setting up Sean Rozzi’s walkoff single for Tropics in the bottom of the frame. Tropics overcome a huge deficit and move on with a 20-19 walkoff victory.

Man of the Match: Rick Brauning (3-4, 3 R, 2B, GSHR, 4 RBI)


Game 3: Philly’s Phinest vs. Dirty Dozen

Philly’s Phinest jump out to a two run lead in the top of the first on a walk, two base hits, and a Ray Rocks RBI double. Dirty Dozen answer in kind in the bottom of the frame as Nick Vitelli smacked a two run bomb to tie the game. In the second, Dirty Dozen take a one run lead as Kyle Landis drew a walk with the bases loaded to score the run. Mike Rocks Sr. doubled in the top of the third and Ed Rocks doubled to score him and tie the game at three. In the top of the fourth, every batter would come to the plate for Philly’s Phinest as they hit draw a walk, hit six singles, and get doubles from Valentino Mendez and Ray Rocks as they jump out to an eight run lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Dirty Dozen get two runs back thanks to Bill Brancato and Todd Gibson each roping RBI doubles. Philly’s Phinest bat around in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of a walk and an error, poking six singled, seeing two doubles from Mike Rocks Sr. and one from Tony Summers, plus Mike Rocks Jr. providing a three run blast as they score 12 runs and start to run away with this one. In the bottom of the sixth, Nick Vitelli launches another two run homer for Dirty Dozen, but they’d score no more than that and the game would be called in the sixth. Philly’s Phinest run away with a 23-7 victory over Dirty Dozen.

Man of the Match: Mike Rocks Jr. (2-3, 3 R, 2 BB, 2B, HR, 5 RBI)


Game 4: Tropics vs. Amber Inn

Amber Inn get on the board quickly in the top of the first with three runs scored on an infield fly and on a two run triple from Mike Haberle. Tropics get on the board in the top of the second on the bat of Shawn Thome who launched a two run big fly to cut their deficit to one. They tie it up the next inning as Bryan McMenamin led the inning off with a base knock and later scored on a fielder’s choice. In the bottom of the fourth, Amber Inn retake their lead with an RBI double from Bill Harper and a three run homer from Mark McKinney, plating four runs. In the top of the fifth, Tropics would plate three as Rick Brauning sent a three run dinger over the fence, cutting Tropics deficit to one again. Both teams would stay off the scoreboard over the final two innings as Amber Inn edge past Tropics for a spot in the championship by a score of 7-6.

Man of the Match: Mark McKinney (1-4, R, HR, 3 RBI)
