Opening day...another season of softball is upon us.

Game 1 - Baron Von Fritz @ Hambinos

Things started in a hurry for Baron, as Craig Stewart and Chris Salanik singled before Evan Porter doubled, knocking them both in and giving his team an early 2-0 lead. But that lead was short-lived, as the Hambinos got 4 of their own in the bottom half thanks to a 2-RBI single from Mark Peasley and an RBI single from Mike Hilt.

In the third, Hambinos added to their lead when Peasley tripled, knocing in Anthony Stevens. He'd later score, making it a 6-2 ballgame.

Peasley kept his great game going in the fifth when he tripled again, knocking in Stevens yet again, extending his team's lead to 7-2.

Looking to battle back, Baron got a run in the sixth thanks to an RBI single from Kevin Cadden, and then another in the seventh when Craig Stewart scored during a fielder's choice. But it wouldn't be enough, The Hambinos held on to win this one.

Final Score: Hambinos 7 Baron Von fritz 4

Player of the Game: Mark Peasley went 3 for 3 including 2 triples, 4 RBIs and 2 Runs Scored for the Hambinos.

Game 2 - Expendables at Jackhammers

This game started out close, looking like it'd be a nail-biter to the very end. The Expendables plated 2 in the first, with Matt Keller and Bill Larkin knocking in the runs. In the bottom half, the Jackhammers knotted the score as Kevin Rosini and Tom Lydon both provided RBI singles.

After the Expendables clawed their way to a run in the top of the second, the Jackhammers took their first lead, 5-3, in the bottom half, using four singles and a timely sac fly to do so.

The Expendables got one of those runs back in the third and then reclaimed the lead in the fifth behind a trio of singles and a big RBI double from Joe Kindt. They held an 8-5 lead after 5, and then pushed the gas pedal to the floor in the sixth. Seven hits, including a 2-RBI single from Dan Altemus and an RBI triple from Kindt, plus four errors amounted to a whopping 12 runs, providing a commanding lead with just an inning and a half to play.

The Jackhammers tried to fight back, scoring two in the bottom half in large part thanks to an RBI double from Mike Wadsworth, but the defecit would be too large.

Final Score: Expendables 20 Jackhammers 7

Player of the Game: Joe Kindt went 4 for 4, including a double, a triple, 2 RBIs and 2 Runs Scored.

Game 3 - MaGerks Pub at Pitches Be Crazy

Things got ugly in the first and didn't improve much as the game went on for Pitches. The nightmares began when Jimmy Malloy smacked an RBI triple in the first, and was followed two batters later with Brian Hilbert's triple. 4 runners crossed the dish in the first for MaGerks. In the bottom half, John Aiken walked and would later score on an RBI single from Zach Cyall. Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring for the day from Pitches.

MaGerks, on the other hand, was not finished.

7 singles, including a 2-RBI single from Denny Nichols, added up to 6 runs in the second. Then 6 more singles accounted for 5 more in the third.

After a quiet fourth, MaGerks slammed the hammer down and ended this one early in the fifth. The big damage of the inning came when Bill Shubert crushed a bases clearing triple, later scoring himself as well.

Final Score: MaGerks Pub 21 Pitches Be Crazy 1

Player of the Game: Brian Hilbert went 4 for 4, including a triple, an RBI and 4 Runs Scored.

Game 4 - Isotopes at Hattricks

Unlike the other games of the day, this one started slowly. Hattricks drew first blood in the bottom of the second, as Tyler Roetman reached on an error and later scored on Jordan Glasburg's RBI single. The Isotopes grabbed the lead, 3-1, in the fourth on four-straight singles. Hattricks cut the defecit in half in the fourth when Josh Graef singled and later scored.

The Isotopes took control in the sixth when they scored 3 runs, 2 of which came on Paul Mizvitowicz' RBI triple. They added 2 insurance runs in the seven thanks to RBI singles from Joe Cremen and Jim Bores.

Down 8-2, Hattricks tried to come back in the bottom of the seventh. Kyle Cortelli scored on Glasburg's RBI single, and then Pat O'Leary scored when Doug Spier walked...but that would be all they could muster.

Final score: Isotopes 8 Hattricks 4

Player of the Game: Paul Mizvitowicz went 2 for 3, including a triple, 3 RBIs and 2 Runs Scored.
