Game 1: Baron Von Fritz vs. Bulldogs

Bulldogs strike first in the first game of the day, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first thanks to Matt Lagomarsino and Mike Suda smacking doubles. Baron Von Fritz take the lead in the top of the second with Brandon Burrows and Craig Stewart ripping doubles and with Dan Keith roping a triple for three runs. A sac fly brings in another run for BVF in the top of the third. In the top of the fourth, a walk, two sac flies, and four singles produce four more runs for BVF. Bulldogs come alive in the bottom of the frame, however, as they bat around (mostly with two outs) on a slew of singles and a CC Witt double to tally eight runs, taking a two run lead. Not to be outdone, BVF retake the lead in the fifth on six runs from more small ball and doubles off the bats of Evan Porter and Chris Salanik. Chris Salanik launches a three run bomb for BVF in the top of the sixth as they bat around on their way to putting up eight more runs, creating a commanding lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Bulldogs manage a run on three singles, but the huge deficit proves to be too much. Baron Von Fritz take a shorthanded Bulldogs team to task, winning 22-11.

Man of the Match: Tim Montvydas (4-4, 3 R, BB, 3 RBI)

Game 2: Bulldogs vs. Dirty Dozen

Bulldogs come out firing in the top of the first, tallying three runs after drawing a pair of walks and poking a few singles. Dirty Dozen get on the board in the bottom of the frame, plating a pair after Kyle Hutter led the inning off with a triple. A trio of singles in each of the third and fourth innings get Bulldogs a run in each frame. In the bottom of the fifth, Dirty Dozen plate a pair of runs on three singles and a Jim McHale double, cutting their deficit to one. The next inning, Ben Vitelli smacked an RBI triple while Derek Kreyenhagen and Jim McHale crushed two run dingers on their way to six runs and a nice lead. In the top of the seventh, Bulldogs manage to tie the game up on doubles from Dan Keith and Shawn Dunn plus a Mat Lagomarsino triple. With two outs and one on in the bottom of the seventh, Ben Vitelli ripped a game winning triple to close this one out. Dirty Dozen squeak by a shorthanded Bulldogs squad in a walk off, winning 11-10.

Man of the Match: Jim McHale (2-2, 2 R, SF, 2B, HR, 3 RBI)

Game 3: HG Coal Fired Pizza vs. Dirt Stars

The home team is not indicated on the scoresheet and with this one ending early, it’s not possible to tell which team is home.

HG gets on the board in the first thanks to Jay Cowan doubling in a pair of runs. On the other side, Dirt Stars manage a run in the first from drawing a pair of walks and poking a single. Dirt Stars tie it up in the second, plating a pair of runs on four singles and a walk. In the fourth, HG reestablishes their lead with seven runs on a walk, four singles, a Ken stein RBI double, and a two run big fly from Jay Cowan. Dirt Stars manage five runs for themselves, ending the inning with a one run deficit after they produced those runs by drawing a pair of walks, hitting a sac fly, and pumping out four singles. HG has a second consecutive seven run frame in the fifth on a walk, six singles, and with Joe Craig ripping a double for the only extra base hit of the inning. On the opposite side, Dirt Stars have a massive fifth inning. They bat around, every batter of their lineup except one scoring at least one run thanks to their keen collective eye drawing six walks in a row to start the inning, then follow it up with three more walks, six singles, and a two run triple from John Boyle as they plate a ridiculous 14 runs. Presumably due to time, this back-and-forth thriller would end after five. Dirt Stars run away in the last inning of a time-shortened thriller, defeating HG Coal Fired Pizza 22-16.

Man of the Match: Bobby McHugh (2-2, 4 R, 3 BB, 4 RBI)

Game 4: Harrigan’s Pub vs. HG Coal Fired Pizza

Greg Thompson smacks a solo homer in the top of the first, drawing first blood for Harrigan’s. HG come out on top after the bottom of the first thanks to forcing a pair of errors plus hitting three singles and a sac fly for three runs. In the top of the second, Harrigan’s ties it up after Shawn Thome led the inning off with a double and was followed by a pair of singles. In the top of the third, Greg Thompson and Brian Hilbert rope RBI doubles, helping to create a four run lead. HG matches that output, tying the game in the bottom of the first highlighted by Jay Stein launching a two run dinger. In the top of the fifth, Harrigan’s gets a run off Greg Thompson’s double. Jay Cowan crushes a two run big fly as HG plate three in the bottom of the fifth. Denny Nicholas and Greg Thompson join the homerfest in the sixth, helping to push seven runners across the dish for Harrgian’s. Six singles and two sac flies end up creating five runs for HG, who end the sixth inning locked in a tie at 15 runs apiece. Harrgian’s keeps steadily hitting, this time poking six singles as they plate three to put the heat on the home side. HG, down three, load the bases with one out, give up an out to score a run, then force an error, but their effort would end there just two runs shy. Harrigan’s Pub takes down HG Coal Fired Pizza 18-16.

Man of the Match: Greg Thompson (4-4, 3 R, 2-2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI)
