Lukens I

Game 1: Baron Von Fritz vs. HG Coal Fired Pizza

The first run of this one came in the bottom of the second with Brendan Parker launching a solo dinger for HG. BVF’s Steve Berry and Evan Porter cranked three and two run homers, respectively, during a five run top of the third. Evan Porter rocked another two run bomb in the fifth and Jay Payne smacked a solo big fly in the top of the sixth, adding three more for BVF. In the top of the seventh, BVF keeps rolling by batting around on six singles, doubles from Craig Stewart and Chris Salanik, plus a triple from Brendan Burrows as they plate 10 runs, creating a huge lead. In the top of the seventh, HG smacks four singles with Justin Knapp driving in two of three runs, but their team would end up nowhere close. Baron Von Fritz crushes HG Coal Fired Pizza 18-4.

Man of the Match: Evan Porter (3-4, 3 R, BB, 2 HR, 5 RBI)


Game 2: Dirty Dozen vs. HG Coal Fired Pizza

Right away, Dirty Dozen get on the board with a pair of runs off two errors and Anthony Mumenthaler’s double. HG responds in the bottom of the first by plating five runs with Jay Cowan and Brendan Parker each driving in a pair. In the bottom of the second, Justin Knapp smacks a three run big fly, accounting for all of HG’s runs. Three walks and two singles tally two more for HG in the bottom of the fourth, giving them a 10-2 advantage. Todd Gibson’s leadoff homer in the top of the fifth gets Dirty Dozen back on the board with a run. The next frame, they bat around with Ben Vitelli, Anthony Mumenthaler, and Mark Meredith doubled in addition to four singles and a pair of walks, to score seven and tie this one up at 10. In the top of the seventh, Dirty Dozen retake the lead with two runs driven in by Erik Stostak and Kyle Landis. Backs against the wall and down two, HG starts the bottom of the seventh with two outs before drawing a walk and Brendan Parker ripping a two run, game trying bomb. A walk and a base knock set up Tyler Cohen to drive in the winning run. HG Coal Fired Pizza walks off Dirty Dozen 13-12.

Lukens III

Game 1: Dirt Stars vs. Dirty Dozen

In the top of the first, Dirt Stars jump out to a three run lead by drawing a walk, forcing two errors, and poking three singles. Dirty Dozen come back with two runs thanks to Ben Vitelli driving in a run with a triple, then scoring on a sac fly. A sac fly in the top of the second extends Dirt Stars’ lead to two. In the top of the third, two walks, a single, and a fielder’s choice tacks another run on for Dirt Stars. In the bottom of the frame, Mike Ivers doubled and scored on a sac fly to claw a run back for Dirty Dozen. In the fourth, they manage to generate six runs on an error, a few singles, and doubles from Jimmy McHale, Kyle Landis, and Mike Ivers. Back-to-back triples from Ben Vitelli and Anthony Mumenthaler in the top of the fifth led to a pair of Dirty Dozen runs. With only a few hits in the final two innings, this game would end with Dirty Dozen on top of Dirt Stars by a score of 11-5.

Game 2: Dirt Stars vs. Bulldogs

An error, three singles and Dan Owens’ double leds to a pair of runs for Dirt Stars in the top of the first. Bulldogs respond with a sac fly in the bottom of the first to halve their deficit. Four runners cross the dish for Dirt Stars in the top of the third highlighted by John Doyle smacking a two run double. Paul Burtis doubles for Bulldogs in the bottom of the third and they provide three singles and force an error to total three runs. Singles and an Anthony Bates triple net Bulldogs a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings, tying the game at six apiece. Dirt Stars wake back up in the top of the sixth, poking three singles and with Dan Ownes providing another double to go up by three. Bulldogs shave a run off in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an error and a base knock. Down to their last turn at the plate, Bulldogs scrap for three singles, but can only score one and fall short in their bid for a comeback. Dirt Stars hold off Bulldogs, winning 9-8.

Man of the Match: Dan Owens (2-4, 2 R, 2-2B, RBI)


Game 3: Harrigan’s Pub vs. Bulldogs

Harigan’s Pub gets on the board in the top of the second thanks to Jeff Tongue’s triple and a pair of singles. Bulldogs respond in the bottom of the frame, taking the lead on Nick Alberino’s two run double and a sac fly. In the bottom of the fourth, Bulldogs increase their lead to two with CC Witt smacking a triple and scoring on another sac fly. Forcing an error and poking a couple singles, Harrigan’s cuts their deficit to just one run in the top of the fifth. The next inning, Shawn Thome led off with a double and Jeff Tongue drove him in on his own double to knot this contest at four runs apiece. Paul Burtis and Anthony Bates start off the bottom of the sixth by ripping doubles and their teammates follow with three singles to plate a pair of runs and retake their lead. Harrigan’s Pub drew a walk in the top of the seventh, but were unable to score. Bulldogs takes down Harrigan’s Pub 6-4.
