B West Championship 8/23/20

Post by Geno8121 »

B West Finals! Undefeated HG Coal Fired Pizza 9-0 takes on the number 1 offense in the division the 6-2 Palz Tap House. The #1 and #2 offenses, also the #1 and #2 defense in the league. These two teams have dominated B West... Who will win, who will the B West Title.
The Wild Wild West, here we go.

Palz Tap House (A) vs HG Coal Fired Pizza (H)

Normally in championship series (I've played in a few) are momentum swings and about how well you start, teams tend to grip the bat a little too tight early and you can see the team up for the moment early. Palz started the 1st inning by using 2 of their 3 Hatfield Home Runs EARLY, Alex Flash Freeman blasted one over the center field fence and Pete Herbert hit the solo to follow. However HG would get more bang for their buck with two 3 run BOMBS by Andrew Parker in BACK TO BACK innings, as usual the straw that stirs the pot Jay Stein started the action with a triple and a double in consecutive innings... HG started the COAL FIRE early with 10 runs in the first two innings taking a 10-3 lead into the 3rd. Palz got a little more bang for their buck as this time Pistol Pete Herbert blasted a 3 run BOMB to get the game within 4 runs. 10-6 after 3. HG responded with another 5 spot in the 4th as Jay Stein crushed a 3 run home run and Justin Knapp lost one for the 4th Home Run of the game for HG. 15-6 HG.. HG added 5 more in the 5th with BACK TO BACK TO BACK doubles by Cohen, Knapp and Brendan Parker. 20-6 HG.... A mercy run is ALWAYS a bad thing in game 1 for your upset chances but Palz responded with 6 straight hits to score 5 runs in the top of the 6th, highlighted by Brian Furness's 2 run double off the YUM YUM sign. 20-11 HG.. a quiet 7th lead to a Game 1 HG win... 10-0 on the season - Game Sidebar - Jay Stein hit for the CYCLE in game 1 of a championship series, talking about coming to play.

HG Coal Fired Pizza (A) vs Palz Tap House (H)

In a Never Back Down quote... "You can learn a lot from a fighter by how he responds to getting hit, you either back down or you get in" ... How would Palz respond to being punched in the mouth? HG Coal Fire's Jay Stein led the charge in the first starting with a double and scoring but that would be the only run in the 1st. Palz responded with an onslaught of singles, 7 of them... nearly batting around to score 5 runs, Tim Reinboth was bored of singles so he decided to hit a 3 bagger in the toughest place to hit one at the HAT.. HG was slow out the gates in this one as they didnt score in the 2nd or 3rd (Very uncharacteristic)... Palz added 3 more in the 3rd inning with 2 triples but Pistol Pete and Mighty Casey giving Palz an 8-1 lead. The 4th inning HG FLEXED a bit, getting right into the game with 6 runs almost all from the long ball, 3 Home Runs in one inning by Knapp, Marcelline and Tyler Cohen making it an 8-7 game. Palz up 1 but it felt like they needed to respond to stop the HG Momentum and boy did they, dropping a 7 spot to win the inning batting around, patience at the plate led to 4 walks, a double by the PISTOL and a 3 run Bomb by Ryan Nakonieczny! 15-7 Palz after 4.... That was all Palz needed to take game 2 however Tom Jacob added a 3 run bomb for icing on the cake. 20-7 Palz...

Game 3... The Decider "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" Mike Tyson.

Palz Tap House (A) vs HG Coal Fired Pizza (H)

Palz started on fire... scoring 6 runs without the use of the long ball.. back to back doubles by Furness and Jacob highlighted the inning. HG was against the ropes as Palz was in control. HG responded like they have all year, Jay Stein stirring the drink, Andrew Parker hitting a ball that still hasnt landed yet leading to 4 runs for HG.. Palz went quietly in the 2nd as did HG who wasted a leadoff double by STEEL NEAL Herbert. 5 more singles, led to 5 more runs for Palz leading to an 11-4 lead. Brendan Parker solo'd to cut it to 11-5. The top of the 5th Palz really distanced themselves added 5 more runs, SHOCKER Pistol Pete did it again with a 2 run bomb, Bob Jacob brings in 2 more with a double as Palz was in command 16-5... HG NEEDED A RESPONSE and they didnt get one in the 5th, Palz sensing Blood in the water scored another 2 in the 6th off back to back doubles by Andrew Heller and Jordan Cohen making it 18-5.. All good teams always have fight in them and HG showed that fight.. down BIG in the 6th they could have walked away with their heads down but they didnt. The bottom of the 6th went like this... Single, Single, Single.. Jay Stein GRAND SLAM.. Still nobody out, after recording an out, Single, Single, Single. Single, Single... Double by Matt Messina, Double by Tyler Cohen, single... 10 runs come across with HG making it an 18-15 game headed to the 7th... Palz added one to make it 19-15 headed to the bottom of the 7th.. Stein starts the inning with a single but with 2 outs down 4, Brendan Parker ends a series the worst possible way with a home run that is over the limit so it counts as an out.

PALZ WINS B WEST... Congrats Palz and good luck in B East. - Also Congrats to HG who had an undefeated season until game 2 of the finals. The comeback they put together in game 3 said a lot of about the teams character.
