7.15.18 - B-West

Post by tommyC »

The rain came down, washing out some of the games for the day, but a few managed to get in before the skies opened up.

Game 1 - Sticky Bandits (0-1) at Backdoor Sliders (2-0)
These two squads met last week and the Sliders came out on top. Would the rematch be any different?
The Bandits were intent to make sure it was, as Nick Ryan smacked a big RBI triple in the top of the first to give his squad the early 2-0 lead. But the Sliders immediately responded. John Aiken contributed an RBI triple and Keith Briggs an RBI double en route to a 5-run inning. They then added 2 more in the second, taking the 7-2 lead.
In the third, 4 singles amounted to 2 runs for the Bandits, as they attempted to come from behind…but John Aiken doubled in the bottom half, leading the Sliders to 3 more runs extending the lead to 10-4.
In the fourth, it was all Sliders again, as Steven Martinez and Joe Collins both doubled as the team put up 4 more, taking the 10-run lead.
Tom Koelzer homered and Brian Mish added an RBI double as the Bandits for 2 back in the top of the fifth, making it an 8-run game. But then the Sliders offense went to work. B2B doubled from Scott Rothman and Martinez led things off. John Beard added a double later before Rothman came back to the plate with runners on base. His double knocked 2 in, putting his squad up by 15 and ending this one prematurely.
Final Score: Backdoor Sliders 21 (3-0) Sticky Bandits 6 (0-2)
Player of the Game: John Aiken got things going early and often, going 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 6 RBIs and 4 Runs Scored.

Game 2 – State Reps (0-1) at E’s Irish Pub (1-0)
Kyle Greener led the game off with a single for the State Reps, later scoring on Dave Nakoniecziwy’s RBI single, scoring the first run of the season for the State Reps. In the bottom half, E’s put the bat on the ball, though, as Tom Collins doubled to start things off and Chris Collins added an RBI double to clean things up. E’s held a 4-1 lead after one.
A quiet second and top half of the third allowed E’s to extend their lead in the bottom of the third. An RBI triple from Bob Worthington and a double from Jeremy Villano helped plate 3 runs, nudging the lead to 7-1.
The fourth inning was a lot of smallball, with the Reps scoring 1 and E’s 2…and then E’s used singles and walks to score another run in the fifth, making it a 10-2 game.
The State Reps put some offense together in the sixth, as 5 singles amounted to 3 runs, nearly halfing the lead. But in the bottom half, 4 straight walks and then a 2-RBI double from Mike Michini put E’s back up by a touchdown and a two.
In the seventh, needing a big-time rally, the Reps managed some hits – 4 in all – but it wasn’t enough. Only 1 run scored, and E’s cruised to an easy W.
Final Score: E’s Irish Pub 13 (2-0) State Reps 6 (0-2)
Player of the Game: Mike Michini went 3 for 3 plus a walk with a double, 4 RBIs and 3 Runs Scored, leading the way for E’s.
