Game 1 – Spartans at Maggios
The Spartans took an early 2-0 lead, as Jay Cowan doubled in Kevin Cush in the first and Mike Gledhill singled and scored on a fielder’s choice in the second. But that’d be all she wrote for the Spartans, as Maggios hit the gas pedal in the bottom of the second and never looked back.
A slew of singles and then a Jared Katz bases clearing triple, solo homer from Kevin Walker, and a triple from Donny Voonger did the damage in the second, as Maggios scored 11. In the third, the major danage was done on Alex Heller’s grand slam and Drake Sprouse’s 2-RBI triple, as Maggios put up 7 more.
Down 18-2, the Spartans needed to score at least 2 in the 5th to keep the game going…and they went down 1-2-3. Maggios won this one going away.
Final Score: Maggios 18 Spartans 2
Player of the Game: Kevin Walker fell just a triple short of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with a double, homerun, 2 RBIs and 2 Runs Scored.

The Spartans composed themselves between games and came out swinging, putting up 5 in the top of the first of this one, led by Brian Kosile and his 2-RBI triple. They added 3 more in the second as Mike Savier and Mike Mahan both doubled, extending their lead to 8-0.
Down 11-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the State Reps finally put together their first big inning of the season. Pete H. tripled and Alex F. doubled en route to a 4-spot, cutting the gap to 11-6. After a ton of walks allowed the Spartans to score 3 more in the fifth, the Reps really got the bats going. Casey Long doubled t lead off the inning and later, Alex F. blasted a grand slam en route to an 8-run outburst, knotting the score at 14.
With time running out, Brian Kosile tripled in 3 runs, later scoring himself, giving his team a 4-run lead heading into the bottom of what-would-be the last inning because of time. Needing 4 to tie and 5 to win, the reps strung together a walk and 4 straight singles Kyle Greener sacrificed himself to score the typing run.
That’s how this one would end…all knotted up at 18.

Game 3 – State Reps at Backdoor Sliders
After an offensive outburst in game 1, the Reps went back to struggling offensively in game 2, not plating their first run until the 5th. Meanwhile, the Sliders went to work.
In the first, 4 walks and a key Scott Rothman 2-run single added up to 3 runs. 2 more runs in the second and 2 more in the fourth put the Sliders up 7-0 heading into the fifth.
Brian F. doubled in a run, finally putting the Reps on the board in the top of the fifth before they’d tie the game up 7-7 in the top of the seventh. A walk and 3 singles set the stage for Alex F. and his bases clearing triple, putting the pressure on the Sliders.
