B North 8/26

As the summer comes to an end, we take a look at how things are shaping up in the playoff race in B North.

Game 1: Amber Inn v Misfits

Amber Inn gets the scoring started in this one as they plate a run on singles in the top of the first. The Misfits would match that run in the bottom of the 2nd as they would push across a run via a single and multiple fielder’s choices. The Inn fired back in the top of the 3rd to the tune of 8 runs as they would bat around on 7 singles and a huge two RBI double from Bruce Snyder. Taking the big shot and answering back, the Misfits would plate 4 in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th to take a one run lead. The damage in the third was done by back to back doubles from Walt Zolna and Joe Torres, combined with a Jim Kash triple and in the 4th it was Matt Ottenger, Kash money and Jimmy Cooker with doubles and a Zach Downs two run blast. In the top of the 5th the Inn would retake the lead as Dave Graves smoked a two RBI double.Continuing their torrid scoring pace, the Misfits plate another four runs in the bottom of the 5th via via a triple from Rico Jones and a homer from Walt Zolna. Amber Inn would cut in the deficit in the 6th with a few singles scoring a run. Adding onto their total, The Misfits bat around in the bottom half of the inning to end the game with a huge 7 spot by way of doubles from Ottenger, Torres and Kash, combined with a huge three run blast from Zolna. Final Score: Misfits 21- Amber Inn 12.

Game 2: One Hit Wonders v Bulldogs

The Bulldogs got on the board first in this one with a 3 spot as Anthony Depaul launched a two run homer in the first. The Wonders would answer the bell in the next inning with Derek Strow smoking a double to help plate two runs. The Bulldogs extended their lead in the bottom of the inning as Matt Lagomarsino lasered and RBI double. An RBI double by Rob Gisondi scored two more runs for the pesky OHWs in the 4th. A rare Hatfield triple from Anthony Depaul helped the Bulldogs match the scoring as it plated a run in the 5th. Heading to the 6th inning, the OHWs scored a huge three runs as Andy Springer cranked a double and Paul Ferruzzi smoked a two run homer. Responding with a four spot of their own, the Bulldogs score four big runs in their side of the inning as Anthony Bates triples, Erik Vauuk and Matt Lagomarsino crank back to back homers, and John Hogan doubles and scores to take the lead. In the 7th the OHWs manage two runs to take a one run lead by way of a Bill Groff triple and a huge two run homer from Strow. Coming up in the bottom of the 7th a fielder’s choice, a walk and a single load the bases for John Hogan to play hero and he smokes a single to win if for the Bulldogs. FInal Score: Bulldogs 12 - OHWs 11

Game 3: Ballz Deep v Bulldogs

Singles plate two for Ballz Deep in the top of the first and would add another via a Jim Gorman solo homer in the 2nd. The Bulldogs would take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd as Anthony Bates and Matt Lagomarsino crank homers, plating four runs. The middle of this game belonged to Ballz Deep as Tom Soup Campbell cranked a solo homer in the 3rd to knot the score, the soon to be wed Sean Butrica smoked a double, leading to another Gorman homer to plate two in the 4th and singles combined with a Butrica triple would plate two more in the 6th. Answering in the bottom of the 6th, singles would plate a run for the Bulldogs but that was all they could muster in this one as they would fall to the Ballz Deepers, Final Score: Ballz Deep 7 - Bulldogs 5

Game 4: Ballz Deep v Dirty Dozen

The Dozen jump on the board in the bottom of the 1st as Nick Vitelli cranks a three run homer. Ballz Deep would attempt to cut into that deficit as they would add a run in the top of the 3rd via singles and fielder’s choices. Four straight singles from the Dozen would negate that run though as we head to the 4th with a 4-1 game. Softball is a tale of two halves (?) sometimes and the rest of this game belonged to the Ballz Deep squad. They would score a run in the 4th on singles, 2 runs in the 5th on a Jason Falcone two run blast, and 7 runs in the top of the 6th via six singles and a Butrica double. Dirty Dozen would recover from the outburst of runs, as Todd Gibson launched a solo homer in the 6th but that would be as close as they could get in this one. Final Score: Ballz Deep 11 - DDs 5

Game 5: Yankee Clippers v Pink Sox

The Yankee Clippers scored early and often in this one. They would plate 5 in the 1st on singles, walks and a Andre O’Donnell double. They would follow that up with single runs in the 2nd and the 4th inning on singles. In the 5th, walks and singles would plate three more runs. Follow that outburst, the Clippers would again use the single and a Nick Wasekanes triple to plate 4 runs, and lastly but certainly not least, in the 6th inning, they would drop a 12 bomb, highlighted by homers from Wasekanes, John Bennett and Brian Maguire twice, a triple from Andrew Breiscraft, and a double from Mike O’Conner combined with a lot of singles. The Pink sox battled for much of this game as they got two runs in the 3rd on singles, two runs in the 6th as Ryan Cullen smoked a double, and three runs in the 7th as Keith Halili crushed a triple. Final Score: Yankee Clippers 26 - Pink Sox 7

Game 6: Yankee Clippers v One Hit Wonders (game of the day)

The Yankee Clippers got off to a fast start, plating two in the first on an Andre O’Donnell double and a two run sac fly. Jesse Grasso would double and score on a sac fly as well to cut the lead in the bottom of the inning. After a tight first inning, the Yankee Clippers exploded over the next three. They would plate 4 in the 2nd on singles, a Brian Maguire double and Nick Wasekanes homer. Following that up they scored 4 more in the 3rd via a triple from Nick Todd and back to back homers from O’Donnell and Wasekanes. Not quite done, they would break out the hitting sticks again in the 4th inning, scoring a whopping 7 runs on singles. Playing the softball version of rope-a-dope, the OHWs answered in the bottom of the 4th with 7 runs via singles, a Derek Strowhauer double and a Jake Heaton homer. Each team would score 3 in the 5th with the Clippers getting theirs by way of an Andre O’Donnell three run homer and the Wonders getting their runs via a Jack Stepnowski double and a Rob Gisondi triple. Singles and walks would plate another for the Clippers in the top of the 6th, capping their scoring for the day. In the bottom of the 6th, down ten, they should be called the Many Hit Wonders… a walk and a single lead to a Jesse Grasso three run homer. Following that up, Jack Stepnowski cranks a solo homer. Two batters later, Derek Strowhauer cranks a two run homer, and after three singles and a walk, Jesse Grasso destroys a WALKOFF GRAND SLAM for the wonders. Final Score: OHWs 22 - Yankee Clippers 21
