Lukens I

Game 1: Mud Dogs vs. Baron Von Fritz

In the bottom of the first, Baron Von Fritz draws first blood thanks to Dan Keith and Branden Burrows ripping doubles, plating three runs. They tack on another one in the bottom of the second as Gary Brown drove in Frankie Fusco. Mud Dogs wake up in the top of the third and take the lead with four runs with Matt Figueroa and Kris Carr each driving in a pair. Baron Von Fritz take the lead right back after making two quick outs, then get a single, doubles from Craig Stewart and Joe Frederick, and a triple from Chris Salanik, scoring three. In the fifth, they plate a single run by drawing a bases loaded walk. In the bottom of the sixth, Baron Von Fritz rips the game open. They push seven runners across the dish as Dan Keith and Frankie Fusco ripped triples and Matt Leasure launched a two run dinger. Down big in the top of the seventh, four straight base knocks and a sac fly plate a pair of runs, but Mud Dogs wouldn’t be able to muster any more runs. Baron Von Fritz beats Muds Dogs 16-6.

Man of the Match: Dan Keith (3-4, 3 R, 2B, 3B, 5 RBI)


Game 2: Jackhammers vs. Baron Von Fritz

Jackhammers start off with five consecutive singles as they plate three in the top of the first to take an early lead. Baron Von Fritz respond right away with a five run frame, taking advantage of two errors, hitting one sac fly, and poking five singles. In the top of the third, Jackhammers score one ona walk and a base hit. In the bottom of the frame, Baron Von Fritz matches them with a run of their own on three base knocks. Jackhammers rip three singles as Rob Wardrop and Tom Lydon crank doubles, driving in a total of four runs to take an 8-7 lead in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, Baron Von Fritz force an error, poke a few singles, then Craig Stewart knocks in a pair of runs on a base hit, retaking the lead. Jackhammers then go down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh as Baron Von Fritz hit only singles to take this one by the slimmest of margins, 9-8.

Man of the Match: Craig Stewart (1-4, R, 2 RBI)


Game 3: Jackhammers vs. Dirt Stars

Hot out of the gate, Jackhammers tally four runs in the top of the first highlighted by Mike Wadsworth clearing the bases with a triple. In the bottom of the second, they keep on rolling with Rob Wardrop ripping a double and Brian Pestridge cranking a triple to help score seven. Dirt Stars come alive in the third, scoring three on an error, two singles, and a fielder’s choice. In the top of the fourth, Jackhammers plate one on a walk and three singles. Dirt Stars’ Jeff Sywulak launches a three run big fly to help them keep fighting with a four run frame. In the top of the fifth, Jackhammers knock in a run after loading the bases on walks and forcing the run in on a fielder’s choice. In the bottom of the sixth, Dirt Stars score one on a sac fly. Another six runs go up on the board for Jackhammers in the top of the seventh as they ride a walk, five singles, and see Tom Lydon rip a double. Down 11 runs, Dirt Stars manage to force an error and smack four singles to tally three runs, but they’d fall well short of a comeback. Jackhammers are victorious by a score of 19-11.

Man of the Match: Rob Wardrop (3-5, 3 R, 2B, 2 RBI)


Game 4: Jackhammers vs. Philly’s Phinest

Playing their third game today, Jackhammers strike first again with a single run as Brian Pestridge drives in Mike Wadsworth with a base hit in the top of the second. Philly’ Phinest tie it right back up in the bottom of the frame on a sac fly off the bat of Mike Repici sac fly. Tom Finn leads off the top of the third for Jackhammers, then three singles and a sac fly drive in three runs. In the bottom of the fourth, Jackhammers respond with a five run frame, beginning the inning with four straight singles and follow that with two sac flies and force an error to take a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Ed Rocks drives in a run, ripping a double. Down three in their last turn as the plate, Jackhammers force an error, get a double out of Chuck McClinton, tack on a single, and plate a run on a sac fly, but they’d put up only two runs before their final out. Philly’s Phinest outlast Jackhammers, winning 7-6.
