B North Playoffs

As the summer rains subside, the championship picture came into view as the top teams in B North battled it out for softball supremacy.

Game 1: One Hit Wonders v Dirty Dozen

In the bottom of the first, One Hit Wonders went on a torrid tear to the likes of that which is rarely seen in playoff softball. Jesse Grasso started the party with a triple, Derek Strowhauer cracked a double and nearly every player reached base as the Wonders dropped a monster 9 run inning. The Dirty Dozen responded in the top of the 2nd with 3 huge runs via four singles and a walk. Big Derek struck again for the Wonders in the bottom half of the inning as he cranked a two run homer. That would randomly be the last runs they would post in this one as the rest of the game belonged to the Dozen. They hammered home 3 more runs in the top of the 3rd by way of doubles from Nick Vitelli and Todd Gibson, a run in the 5th inning on a Nick Vitelli solo homer, and a run in the 6th inning via a Kyle Hutter double. Down three heading into the last inning, the Dozen ran into a bit of unfortunate luck. With two runs already home, one out, the tying run on 2nd and the winning run on 1st, both base runners were caught by the off the bag rule on a swing and miss to end the game. Final Score: One Hit Wonders 11 - Dirty Dozen 10

Game 2: Amber Inn v Misfits

This may have been the game in the year in sunday softball. In the top of the first Amber Inn put up 3 runs highlighted by a Marc McKinney double. They would follow that up in the 2nd inning by scoring 5 more runs via a plethora of singles and a Mike Haberle double. In the bottom of the 3rd the Misfits would cut into the deficit as they hammered home two runs on singles and a Rico Jones two bagger. Both teams would score in the 4th inning as the Inn got a solid 3 spot via singles and a Kevin Noone double, and the Misfits got two more runs on a double from Mark Casselli and a triple from Tim Graff. The 6th and the 7th would see Amber Inn plate 4 runs as John Graves and Kevin Noone tripled and Dave Graves doubled to lead the way. Singles and errors would help the Misfits cut the deficit to 15-6 in the 6th inning and then the game got crazy. A bottom of the 7th, NINE RUN RALLY pulled the Misfits all the way back into the game and took it to extras. Highlights of the rally include doubles from Joe Torres and Chris Quinn and singles from nearly every player in the lineup. FREE SOFTBALL…. In the top of the 8th Amber Inn slipped home three runs on singles and a sac fly. Answering the bell the Misfits also scored 3 via singles and a Dan Cripps double. In the 9th inning both teams would push across the courtesy runner on 2nd to plate a run. Surpassing normal baseball game length we head to the 10th. In the top of the 10th Amber Inn is able to score a huge four runs via the single and a Marc McKinney double. Battling back, the Misfits are able to score the runner on 2nd almost immediately via a single but that was all they are able to muster. Final Score: Amber Inn 23 - Misfits 20.

Game 3: Semifinals: One Hit Wonders v Bulldogs

The Bulldogs would get on the board first in this one as Paul Burtis hammered an RBI double in the bottom of the 1st. In the top of the 2nd, The Wonders are able to push across two runs to take the lead via walks, singles and a 2 run fielder’s choice. They would follow that outburst up with a monster 5 run 3rd inning highlighted by back to back homers from Paul Ferruzzi and Derek Strowhauer. Down 7-1 the Bulldogs would make a comeback in the bottom of the 4th as Mike Suda doubled and CC Witt smacked a 2 RBI single. Unfortunately that was all they are able to muster in this one as the One Hit Wonders closed the door with good defense and locked in their spot in the championship next week. Final Score; OHWs 7 - Bulldogs 3

Game 4: Semi-Finals: Amber Inn v Ballz Deep

The second game of a double header is always the toughest. In the top of the 1st, Amber Inn is able to push across a run via singles. Ballz Deep answered that run in the bottom half of the inning and added 13 more as they hammered home a whopping 14 runs. Highlights of the rally included a double from Jacob McDevitt and Adam Bagishinski, triples from Adrian Reyes, Tom Campbell, and Justin Glennon, and homers from Jason Falcone and Gene Walczak. Amber Inn got a run in the 2nd as singles and a fielder’s choice pushed it home. Ballz Deep would continue their hot hitting in the 2nd, using six singles to score 3 additional runs. In the top of the fourth Amber Inn would once again plate a run by way of a Mike Haberle double. Capping this one and solidifying their spot in the championship, Ballz Deep rallied again for 6 runs, topped off by an Adrian Reyes triple to lock in a 20 run rule. Final Score: Ballz Deep 23 - Amber Inn 3

Good Luck in the championship Ballz Deep and One Hit Wonders
