Game 1: Magerks vs. Philly’s Phinest

Anthony Madoni triples and is driven in as Magerks get on the board with one in the top of the first. In the second, they keep it up with a pair of runs by drawing two walks, then having Jeff Tongue bring them both in on a double. Four runs go on the board for Magerks in the top of the third thanks to a pair of singles, an Anthony Madoni double, and triples from Frank Turco and Brian Hilbert. Philly’s Phinest finally answer in the bottom of the third as they hit four straight singles to tally two runs. In the bottom of the fourth, Philly’s Phinest bat around by drawing a couple walks, smacking three singles, and with Mike Rocks Sr. and Mike Smith each ripping RBI doubles as they score five and tie the game up at 7. Magerks comes out in the top of the sixth and retake their lead with three runs, staring the inning with four consecutive singles and capping it off with a sac fly. In the top of the seventh, they add an insurance run as Ryan Bell ripped a leadoff double and Brian Dayton immediately doubled him in. Their backs against the wall, Philly’s Phinest get a two run single off the bat of John Quartullo to halve their deficit, but they fail to score any more. Magerks moves on with an 11-9 victory over Philly’s Phinest.

Game 2: Mud Dogs vs. Jackhammers

Jackhammers draw first blood in the bottom of the first with a three run frame, drawing a walk, poking two singles, and Rob Wardrop ripping an RBI double. Mud Dogs answer in the top of the second, knotting the game at 3 as Kris Carr cranked a leadoff dinger, followed by Max Malloy’s double, and three singles. In the bottom of the second, Jackhammers retake their lead by forcing an error, drawing two walks, and hitting two singles, to plate four. In the top of the third, Mud Dogs get their first four batters on base and score three before conceding two outs, but go on to force an error and Chris Refsnider triples as they fight to plate seven runs, retaking their lead. Mud Dogs continue in the top of the fourth, thanks to a Matt Figueroa leadoff homer paving the way for doubles from Max Malloy and Brian Figueroa, and triples from Ben Daniels and Josh Figueroa. Rob Wardrop drives in the lone run for Jackhammers in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Mud Dogs tack on another run on three base knocks. In the bottom of the frame, Jackhammers come storming back. They bat around by walking twice, singling five times, and getting a double out of Tom Lydon as they plate seven, now finding themselves down 16-15. In the top of the sixth, Matt Figueroa drives in a pair with a triple to extend the Mud Dogs lead to three. In the bottom of the seventh, Jackhammers use a sac fly and a Tom Lydon single to plate two, but a fielder’s choice ends their hopes of a comeback. Mud Dogs hold on and eliminate Jackhammers 18-17.

Man of the Match: Matt Figueroa (3-4, 3 R, 3B, HR, 3 RBI)


Game 3: Magerks vs. Baron Von Fritz

Doubles from Joe Frederick and Chris Salanik help Baron Von Fritz get on the board quickly in the bottom of the first as they take a three run lead. Three more runs cross the dish for them in the bottom of the second, with doubles this time off the bats of Craig Stewart and Kevin Ladden. Continuing to roll in the bottom of the fourth, Baron Von Fritz score five more on two walks and five singles. In the top of the fifth, Magerks wakes up a force an error, rip five singles, and Jeff Tongue smacks an RBI double, getting on the board with four. The next inning, three singles, a fielder’s choice, and a sac fly plate another pair of runs for Magerks. Matt Leasure provides the highlight and clears the bases for Baron Von Fritz with a triple, helping his team to a six run inning to extend their lead to 11. Magerks get singles out of their first two batters, setting up an RBI double from Anthony Madoni and two-out RBI singles from Brian Hilbert and Ryan Bell, but three runs would leave them well short. Baron Von Fritz punch their ticket to the championship with a 17-9 win over Magerks.

Man of the Match: Chris Salanik (3-3, 3R, 2B, 2 RBI)


Game 4: Mud Dogs vs. Dirt Stars

Mud Dogs start quickly with a Kavit Solanski leadoff double, an error, a single and a sac fly that add up to two runs in the top of the first. Dirt Stars respond in the bottom of the first with four runs thanks to doubles from Dan Owens and Bobby McHugh. In the bottom of the second, Jeff Sywulak launches a Grand Slam as Dirt Stars plate five runs. Continuing to dominate in the bottom of the fourth, Dirt Stars plate seven runs with Jeff Sywulak launching a three run bomb and Paul Rainer cranking a Grand Slam of his own. In the top of the fifth, Mud Dogs take advantage of an error and use a sac fly to plate a run to get back on the board for the first time since the opening frame. The next inning, Mud Dogs score another one as Kris Carr singled to start the frame and scored. In the bottom of the sixth, Dirt Stars add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Mud Dogs remain silent in the top of the seventh as Dirt Stars move on with a 17-4 victory.

Man of the Match: Jeff Sywulak (2-4, 2 R, HR, GSHR, 7 RBI)
