B North Summer Finals

The Baddest dudes in the North clashed in a winner take all showdown on the sun drenched Cedar Hill field.

Game 1: One Hit Wonders v Ballz Deep

After a solid defensive start, Ballz Deep jumped into the scoring column in the bottom of the first scoring 2 runs on three singles and a sac fly. Walks, a single, and two errors would plate 2 for the Wonders in the top of the 2nd to knot the score. Following that outburst, the Wonders would take the lead in the 3rd, plating 3 runs on five singles. Doubles from Jason Falcone and Gene Walcizzle would cut the deficit as they are able to score 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning. Singles and two sac flies paved the way to a monster 5 run 4th for the Wonders, but the boys from Ballz Deep would once again answer the bell as they hammer home a whopping 8 runs on singles and doubles from Adrian Reyes, Gene and Sam Nickel. They would continue to smoke the ball in the 5th inning, plating 6 more runs, highlighted by doubles from Tom Campbell and Jacob McDevitt. The Wonders battled valiantly in the 7th inning scoring four runs again via the single, but that would be as close as they could get in this one as Ballz Deep takes game 1, 18-14.

Game 2: Ballz Deep v One Hit Wonders

Ballz Deep would fly out of the gate plating four runs in the top of the 1st, highlighted by a bases clearing triple from Jacob McDevitt. Forging a comeback, the Wonders used a plethora of singles, combined with a Paul Ferruzzi double and a Derek Strowhauer three run homer to plate 9 runs in the bottom of the 1st. They would continue their hot hitting scoring 2 in the 2nd on an Andy Springer double and some singles. Ballz Deep got back in the scoring column in the top of the 4th as Justin Glennon smoked a triple and scored. However, singles, walks and a Bill Jones double would win the inning for the Wonders as they are able to plate 2 in the bottom half. Another 7th inning triple from Mr. Glennon would cut into the lead once again, but this game belonged to the Wonders, final score 13-6.

Game 3: One Hit Wonders v Ballz Deep

The One Hit Wonders continued their streaky hitting, plating four runs in the top of the 1st, in large part due to doubles from Andy Springer and little Strow. Ballz Deep fired back in the bottom half of the inning with renewed vigor as the would knot the score at 4 courtesy of a Jason Falcone double and singles. Ballz Deep would extend their lead in the 2nd and 3rd innings as they pushed across 3 runs in the 2nd by way of walks and singles, combined with a large 7 run 3rd inning which saw a ton of singles and a Jacob McDevitt double do the damage. In the top of the 4th the Wonders would begin to mount their comeback as they score a quick 3 runs on five singles. Two singles and a Jim Gorman double would add two for the Ballz Deep squad, which would turn out to be their last runs of the day so we head into the rest of the contest to find out if the One Hit Wonders can do enough to overcome the deficit and win the summer championship. Down 16-8 we head to the top of the 5th. In the top of the 5th, the One Hit Wonders proved to be the “many hit wonders” as singles, walks and a Rob Gisondi triple plate 7 runs and cut the deficit to one run. Just like that we have a ball game. In the 6th a walk followed up by a Rob Gisondi single would score a run and knot the score at 16 so we head to the 7th. In the 7th the One Hit Wonders got a huge leadoff double from Derek Strowhauer and a monster two RBI single from Jake Heaton to plate 3 runs in what would prove to be enough as they have a solid defensive inning and WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. Final score 19-16.

Congrats to both teams on a great summer. See you in the fall!
