Game 2: Hambinos vs. Baron Von Fritz

The scoring started in the bottom of the first when a Tim Montvydas double and a pair of singles scored two runs for Baron Von Fritz. In the top of the second, Hambinos halves their deficit thanks to Pat Tobin ripping a double and scoring. A pair of sac flies in the bottom of the frame end up plating a pair for BVF. Hambinos bats around in the third, plating a whopping 10 runs on a walk, a sac fly, seven singles, Matt Schalck’s double, Bill Peters’ triple, and Pat Tobin’s two run dinger. In the bottom of the fourth, BVF responds with six runs while batting around on their own, using a sac fly, five singles, and doubles from Craig Stewart and Tom Montvydas, ending the inning down jst one. In the fifth, BVF reclaims their lead as Chris Salanik tripled to start the inning, leading to three runs and a two run cushion. Matt Schalck doubles to set the table, and a few singles tie the game up for Hambinos in the top of the sixth. After each team took a scoreless turn at the plate, BVF gets a two out single in the bottom of the seventh before an outfield error allows the winning run to score. Baron Von Fritz squeezes past Hambinos, winning 14-13.

Lukens III

Game 1: Dirt Stars vs. HG Coal Fired Pizza

HG gets on the board first in the bottom of the opening frame, scoring five runs thanks to a sac fly, a Jay Stein double, and Ken Stein’s three run big fly. Dirt Stars wake up in the top of the second, drawing a walk, forcing an error, smacking two sac flies, poking five singles, and with Dans Roper and Curran smacking doubles as they bat around and score eight. In the bottom of the third, HG plates another five runs to retake the lead, highlighted by Justin Knapp and Matt Messina ripping doubles. Five straight singles to start the top of the fourth help Dirt Stars score four to take a 12-10 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Jay Stein launches a two run homer and Andrew Parker smacked an RBI triple to put HG up 13-12 after 4. Dirt Stars create a slim lead for themselves in the fifth, scoring twice with Kevin Elmer and Dan Roper providing a double and triple, respectively. In the top of the sixth, they tack on one more for a two run lead. In the bottom of the frame, Jay Stein launches a two run big fly to tie the game at 15 after 6. In the top of the seventh, Dirt Stars put seven runs up on the board on a sac fly, a pair of walks, six singles, and doubles from Dan Curran and Shawn Mackley. The odds stacked against them and down two players (one to injury and one to ejection), HG manage two singles to start off the bottom of the seventh, but would end up recording three straight outs. Dirt Stars prevail in a back and forth thriller, defeating HG Coal Fired Pizza 22-15.

Man of the Match: Dan Roper (5-5, 5 R, SF, 2B, 3B, 4 RBI)

Game 2: Bulldogs vs. Dirty Dozen

Triples from Mike Suda and Paul Burtis help get Bulldogs out in front with a two run top of the first. Dirty Dozen match them in the bottom of the frame on a pair of singles and an Angelo Vitantonio triple. Four singles and Mike Suda ripping a double plate four for Bulldogs in the top of the second. In the top of the third, Bulldogs Get another Mike Suda double, plus Anthony Bates’ triple to rack up another four runs. In the bottom of the third, Dirty Dozen show a patient eye as they score two runs thanks to free passes. Nick Alberino and CC Witt started off the inning with extra base hits and plate another pair of runs for Bulldogs in the top of the fourth. Dirty Dozen begin the bottom of the fourth with nine consecutive base runners before recording an out on a sac fly, then get a two run triple from Anthony Mumenthaler and a two run dinger from Mark Meredith, plus a few more base hits as they bat around for a massive 12 run inning and a four run lead. They tack on two more in the bottom of the fifth on two singles, a sac fly, and Todd Gibson’s double. A pair of doubles off the bats of Shawn Dunn and Kyle Simms helps Bulldogs scrape a run back in the top of the sixth. Anthony Mumenthaler adds an insurance run with his leadoff round tripper in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the seventh, Bulldogs score twice on sac flies, but they’d fall four runs short in this one. Dirty Dozen ride a huge inning to down Bulldogs 19-15.

Game 3: Dirty Dozen vs. SCLSU Mud Dogs

Mark Meredith drove in a pair of runs to put Dirty Dozen up in the top of the first. Mud Dogs halved their deficit in the bottom of the first on four base knocks. In the top of the third, three singles and a sac fly get two more runs for Mud Dogs. In the fourth, Mud Dogs keep rolling with James McHale and Derek Kreyenhagen roping doubles and Angelo Vitantonio smacking a solo homer to plate six runs. Three more come in for Dirty Dozen in the top of the fifth on four singles and Mark Meredith’s double. James McHale doubled and Angelo Viatantonio drove in a pair of runs as Dirty Dozen have another three run inning and find themselves sitting on a 15 run lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Mud Dogs wake up and force an error and smack three singles to put three runs on the board. In the bottom of the seventh, Tony Figueroa drove in the last run of the game on a base knock. Mud Dogs fall to Dirty Dozen 16-5.
