Softball Confucious say: “Team who hits less better hit more homers”

Game 1: Bulldogs v Ballz Deep

In softball quiet hitting spells and wild run scoring rallys come unpredictably and often make for super entertaining games… In this one, the Bulldogs would not get anything going until they plate a run in the 3rd on singles. The very next inning, WHAM, wild scoring rally. The Bulldogs smacked home a whopping 7 runs on 9 hits, including doubles from Brian Goreley and John Hogan, combined with a triple from Dave “flash” Gordon. After that huge rally things went back to quiet for the dogs and that would be all they could muster in this one. Ballz Deep in similar fashion, started out slowly. For them, the first outburst of hitting came in the 2nd inning as they plate 9 runs via doubles from Jason Falcone, Alex Metz and Jacob McDevitt, combined with a homer from Greg Guarino. Then, they went silent again until they would go quiet again until the 4th inning in which they would hammer home 4 runs highlighted by a Jabob McDevitt homer. That would cap their scoring for the day.

Ballz Deep wins a crazy one, 13 - 8.

Game 2: One Hit Wonders v Misfits

While song games are highlighted by wild scoring runs, some are back and forth mash the rock battles, and others are defensive gems. This one proved to be the latter. The One Hit Wonders pushed across a run in the 2nd on singles and two more in the 3rd on walks and singles. Misfits would plate a run in the 2nd on singles and 2 runs in the 4th on a Jim Kash homer. Whoever had the under in Vegas with these two high powered offenses was licking their chops. In extra innings, the One Hit Wonders came out hammering the rock for 5 runs on singles, a Jesse Grasso double and a Rob Gisondi triple. Down but not out the Misfits plate two runs in the first three batters as Joe Torres also roped a double and scored, but that would be all they could push across in this one.

The One Hit Wonders outlast the Misfits 8 to 5.

Game 3: Dark Horse v Misfits

With two perennial high powered offenses, the SBA world took notice of the game 3 battle between the Dark Horse and Misfit squads. Dark Horse did their damage in this one, first by scoring a run in the 2nd inning on singles. Errors, singles and a Nick Mariani triple would help the boys in green plate 6 runs in the 5th. Following that outburst, they would hammer home 4 runs on doubles from Ryan Schock and Paul Ferruzzi the Elder. They would follow up with 4 more runs in the 7th on singles and walks. The Misfits got on the board early as they hammered home 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st, highlighted by doubles from Joe Torres and Josh Persing. They continued to rally in the 3rd as Joe Torres once again did the damage, this time with a triple. A double from Eric Tidwell and a ding dong slamma jamma from Mr. Torres plate two more for the red team in the 5th. In the 6th inning smokin’ Joe completed his cycle with a single, Chris Quinn tripled and Zach Downs doubled, scoring 4 runs. Down a run in the 7th the Misfits rallied once again as singles and errors pushed across the two runs needed for victory.

Final Score: Misfits 16 - Dark Horse 15

Game 4: Yankee Clippers v Insurance Runs (at the Quarry)

It’s always interesting to see what happens when teams who don’t normally play at the Quarry wind up on the spotlight in front of Nancy’s Snackshop. Will they succumb to the pressure of bleachers and snacks offered at affordable prices? Will they launch balls over the crooked monster? Let’s find out… The Yankee Clippers got off to a hot start as they slammed home a whopping 6 runs in the 2nd inning on singles and a Nick Manini two-bagger. They would follow that up with 3 more huge runs in the 5th on four singles. Busting out the double stick in the 7th, the Clips plate 3 more runs on doubles from Kai Browner and Andre “wheels” O’Donnell. Insurance Runs matched the early pressure as they hammer home 4 runs in the 3rd inning on singles and a Matt Freedman double. They would follow that up with a run in the 5th on errors and a single. In rare form, that would be all the streaky offense of the Insurance Runs could muster in this one.

Yankee Clippers send the Insurance Runs packing 10 - 5.
