Game 1: Hitmen vs. Philly’s Phinest

Hitmen come out swinging in the top of the first, with John Aiken leading the inning off with a double and Oz Dawson roping a triple, helping to plate two runs. Philly’s Phinest match them in the bottom of the frame, plating two on a walk and four singles. In the bottom of the third, Philly’s Phinest take the lead with a seven run outing with Valentino Mendez and Tony Summers each smacking RBI doubles and Ed Rocks cranking a two run triple. In the bottom of the fourth, Ray Rocks doubled in the only run for Philly’s Phinest. Hitmen get back on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth thanks to Oz Dawson and Joe Collins each driving in a run on doubles. Philly’s Phinest again match their opponent’s output in the bottom of the fifth, poking four singles and hitting a sac fly to score two. Philly’s Phinest tack another run onto their lead in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of an error and hitting two base knocks. In the top of the seventh, Hitmen muster a run, but fall well short of a comeback this time. Philly’s Phinest defeat Hitmen 11-5.

Game 2: Philly’s Phinest vs. The Tropics

Fresh off a win, Philly’s Phinest jump out to a two run lead in the top of the first on a sac fly, a couple singles, and a Ray Rocks double. Tropics respond with three runs on doubles from Rick Brauning, Bryan McMenamin, and Mark Gualtieri. In the top of the second, Philly’s Phinest explode for 10 runs as they bat around, drawing three walks, hitting six singles, and getting doubles from Ray Rocks, Valentino Mendez, and Mike Repici. In the bottom of the frame, Noah Mastin drives a pair in on a triple to help Tropics scrape back a couple runs. Ray Rocks doubles again in the top of the third, this time plating two for Philly’s Phinest. Jay Mykrantz triples for Tropics, then scores their only run of the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the fourth, they score another single run thanks to Calvin Bernard’s leadoff double. In the top of the fifth, Mike Rocks triples in a lone run for Philly’s Phinest, tacking on to their lead. Tropics surge back into the game by hitting nine consecutive singles and adding a Bryan McMenamin double as they bat around and score eight, knotting the game at 15 apiece. In the top of the sixth, PHilly’s Phinest generate some offense on their own as Tony Summers ripped a double and the team smacked five singles and a sac fly en route to five runs. After a silent seventh, this game ends with Philly’s Phinest coming out on top of Tropics 20-15.

Man of the Match: Ray Rocks (4-5, 3 R, 3-2B, 5 RBI)


Game 3: The Tropics vs. Dirty Dozen

A solo dinger from James McHale helps Dirty Dozen get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first. They double their lead in the bottom of the second thanks to Kyle Hutter driving in a pair on a base knock. In the top of the third, Tropics wake up in a big way. They bat around, not recording an out until their second trip through the lineup, and score a whopping 15 runs on a couple sac flies, 11 singles, doubles from Noah Mastin, Mark Gualtieri, and Rick Brauning, plus a Jay Mykrantz triple. In the bottom of the frame, Dirty Dozen answer respectably, plating eight runs while batting around with a sac fly and nine singles, ending the inning down 15-12. In the top of the fourth, Tropics score a run on a pair of singles, then have a five run fifth highlighted by Noah Mastin and Mark Gualtieri roping triples. Tropics keep it rolling in the top of the sixth as Rick Brauning and Bryan McMenamin each drive in a run on a double and single, respectively. In the bottom of the sixth, Dirty Dozen make a big push, batting around thanks in large part to Mike Ivers and Harry Steglich belting doubles and Keith Bauer roping a triple, while James McHale launched a three run bomb, scoring eight to bring them within three runs. Adding a few insurance runs in the top of the seventh, Tropics smack four straight singles to plate three and establish a 26-20 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Dirty Dozen get a two-out RBI triple from Kyle Hutter, who was then driven in by Ben Vitelli, but their outing would end there, a few runs shy of a comeback. Tropics outslug Dirty Dozen 26-22.
