Philly Junk v. Dookie Brewster Spring Chip Series

Post by latincontrol »

Tuesday Men’s Spring Season

Here we are. The final two teams standing and now playing for the Tuesday night championship t-shirt. Philly Junk and Dookie Brewster.
Dookie Brewster is the home team game with Philly Junk being home team in game two. A game three was necessary, so Dookie would again be the home team.
Two good offenses…question would be, who really wanted it and who’s offense would remain consistent.

In game one, Philly Junk got to work. Brandon Birkhead hit his first of two home runs in the game when he smashed a 3-run shot. He destroyed another pitch for a 3-run shot on the 7th inning. Those two AB’s would produce 6 runs on the night for him alone. Ryan Habel hit a solo bomb in the 4th inning and Mike Testa finished with 3 rbi after hitting singles in both the 6th and 7th innings.
For Dookie, well, not a good start. Joe Houchuck tripled home a run and later scored himself in a 2-run first inning effort. Axel Alicea singled home a run in the 2nd inning and Jared Gardner with a solo bomb in the 3rd. But…that was it. While Philly Junk scored 17 times, Dookie Brewster could only get 5 of those back. Not a good start for Dookie as they lose by 12.

Game two, Philly Junk was still at work. Mike B and KC Ingram both homered in the first inning accounting for 5 of the teams 6 runs in that frame. Ryan R highlighted a 5-run 2nd inning with his 2-run double. KC stayed hot as he smashed yet another homer in the 4th inning…this time a 2-run shot. KC later singled two more times collecting his 4th and 5th hits of the game and driving in 8 runs. Mike T added a 2-run blast in the 6th. Philly, after 17 in the first game…they score 18 in this one.
But Dookie Brewster’s offense woke up…and woke up big time. The bottom half of the line up, hitters 7 through 12 accounted for 21 of the team’s 30 runs. WOW! Axel went yard in the 5th after singling home 2 in the 4th…he finished with 4 rbi…Rob M, Jay Cybok and Chris Hackney all scored 4 times while driving in 5 more out of the 12-spot. Dookie with a loud response to game as they won 30-18.

This then brings up to game 3. All I’ll start with is…Philly’s offense stayed hot and actually got better and Dookie Brewster offense was up to the task.
Philly had themselves a 4-run first, 9-run 4th, 5-run 5th, 6-run 6th and a 3-run 7th. Mike B remained on fire collecting 4 hits, two of which were home runs. He also scored 4 times and drove in 5. Shane Hanna had 5 hits in 6 AB’s while plating 4 and scoring 4 times himself. Philly Junk after scoring 17 in game and 18 in game 2…they now put up TWENTY-EIGHT in the deciding game.
The offense for Dookie remained hot picking up where they left off in game 2. Jared quickly drove in a run and Jon P drove in 2 more with his single. Axel had a grand slam and Poore added two more runs on his 2nd hit of the inning. That’s 13 runs in the first inning alone. Jared added a solo bomb in the 3rd and Axel with his second blast of the night, a solo HR in the 2nd. Poore would get Dookie’s biggest hit of the game with a 2-run homer in the 7th to give Dookie a 28-25 lead. Philly, as mentioned earlier did score 28 themselves so they got to work and scored 3 in the 7th with Justin M driving in 2 with his single and Shane Hanna tripling home the tying run with a triple.
In the bottom of the 7th…Jose R singled to lead off the inning and was quickly followed with singles by Ryan G and Axel Alicea. Bases loaded, no outs…Rob M at the plate…and he WALKS!
I mean, literally a walk…for the walk-off win of the Championship Series deciding game.
Dookie Brewster after a poor offensive showing in game one came back to score FIFETY-NINE runs in two game and take the series. Wow!

Congratulations to Dookie Brewster on their Tuesday Men’s Championship Win!
