Week 5 at the Quarry

Game 1: Mayhem (3-0) at Sex Panthers (2-1)
Mayhem goes down quietly in the top of the 1st. The Panthers start quick in the bottom half, plating 4 runs on five hits. Mayhem gets 1 in the top of the 2nd on a triple and a sac fly but the Panthers would immediately get it back and then some in the bottom half. A leadoff walk followed by an error, a sac fly, a 2-run Hr by Jim Lelii and then a double and RBI single sees them take a 8-1 lead. Mayhem wakes up in the top of the 3rd. A leadoff walk, an error, four straight hits, a 3-run HR by Mike Bitterlich followed by another walktwo more hits, a sac fly and a 3-run HR by Brian Acker gives Mayhem a 12-8 lead. The Panthers would go down easily in the bottom of the 3rd and then Mayhem would pour on some more. Four straight hits to start the inning, followed by an error, a sac fly, another error and a single gives Mayhem a 17-8 lead. The Panthers get a solo HR by Jim Lelii in the bottom of the 4th to cut their lead but Mayhem would plate 4 more in the top of the 5th to take a 21-9 lead. The Panthers would make a good effort and score 6 in the bottom of the 5th and then each would get s run in the 6th as Mayhem takes this one 22-16.

Player of the game: Jim Lelii (Panthers): 5/5 (2 1B, 2B, 2 HR) 4 R, 4 RBI

Game 2: Vertex Pest Management (1-2) at Hemlock Philosophers (1-1)
Vertex gets a quick run off of a leadoff double and he’d come around to score on an error. Hemlock gets it right back on a leadoff double of their own and a single to knock him in. Hemlock then takes a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 2nd on three singles. Vertex would show up in the top of the 3rd, plating 6 runs on six hits, two walks, a fielder’s choice and a sac fly. Hemlock only gets 1 back in the bottom half. Vertex plates 4 more in the top of the 4th on five singles and two sac flies. This time, Hemlock gets 3 of them back in the bottom half on a single, an error, a triple and another single. Vertex holds an 11-6 lead after 4. They’d extend their lead by 5 in the top of the 5th on 5 hits, including a 2-run HR by Matt Schaub. They’d go on to add 6 more over the final two innings and take this one 22-8.

Game 3: Irish Car Bombs (2-1) at Outback Steakhouse (0-2-1)
ICB comes out swinging in this one, scoring in every inning. They’d plate 8 in the 1st on nine hits, two errors and a sac fly and 2 runs in each of the next 3 innings. Outback would get 6 in the top of the 2nd but would go scoreless in the 1st, 3rd and 4th innings and would be trailing the whole game. ICB gets 4 in the 5th on HR by Jared Gardner and Ryan Coleman. Outback would get 3 of them back and then 3 in the 6th but it would never be enough and ICB takes this one 19-12.

Player of the game: Jared Gardner (ICB): 3/5 (2B, 2 HR) 3 R, 5 RBI

Game 4: The Commission (2-1) at Jamison Pour House (1-1-1)
The Commission comes out firing, scoring 5 runs in the top of the 1st on five hits and three fielder’s choices. JPH would fail to show up for most of the night, scoring 1 in the 2nd on two singles and 2 in the 5th on a single, walk, a double and a sac fly. The Commission holds on to take this one 6-3.
