Post by Rider14 »

Game #1 – Roos vs. Knuckleheads

Jeremy Villano gets the Roos going with a three run bomb right out of the gate as he looks to get his team into the next round. A few defensive errors net Roos two more runs as they lead 5-0 after the top half of the first inning. Knuckleheads respond with a bomb of their own, this one off the bat of Brandon Birkhead as they trail 5-2. Jamie Burns and Jay Cybok get RBI singles to draw this game to within one run. Another homer gives Knuckleheads the lead, this time a two run bomb from Jose Rodriguez. Roos struggle at the plate until the fifth when Villano drives in a run on a deep fly ball that just missed going out, but ends up being a sac fly. Jaden Newman gives Knuckleheads a two run lead on a two run single as we head to the last inning. Roos get a run on a Villano RBI double and have the tying and winning run on base, but that is where they would end as they can’t push any more runs across. Knuckleheads win 8-7.

Player of the Game:
Brandon Birkhead (Knuckleheads) – 3/3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI’s

Game #2 – Sandlot Sluggers vs. Mottley Crew

Sluggers get the second game looking for a win and draw a trip to the chip and do so with five runs out of the gate. Tom Koezler starts the scoring with an RBI double, which is followed up by a two run triple from Ty Allen. Katie O also knocks in a run on an RBI single in the inning. Crew responds in the bottom of the inning with five runs of their own. Jon Motts starts their scoring with an RBI single followed by a two run bomb from Evan Porter. Dan Geiger and Kevin Motts also add RBI singles in the inning as well. Sluggers take the lead again with an RBI single from Jackie H and a two run single from Koezler as they lead 8-5. Sluggers grab a run across fourth, fifth and sixth inning while Crew had an explosion of runs in the fifth. Crew bats around to the tune of 11 runs in the fifth. Porter stay red hot at the plate with a bases clearing triple while, CJ Motts, Carl Motts, Kaelyn Motts and Tom Finn all had RBI hits as well in the inning. Justin Ruth also added a two run single in the inning as Crew lead 19-11 heading into the seventh. Porter also had added two additional insurance runs on a sac fly in the sixth. Koezler is able to get on base with a single, but Sluggers run out of steam and can’t get anything going late as they will fall in this one. Crew win 19-11.

Player of the Game:
Evan Porter (Mottley Crew) – 2/3, 3B, HR, 7 RBI’s

Game #3 – Knuckleheads vs. Dugout Demons

Knuckleheads come out slow in this one after winning their first game and then having to sit around for a game. Demons start slow as well and can only manage one run across the first three innings on a Rob Lyons sac fly. The scoring resumes in the fourth with back to back doubles from Pat Kelly and Jake Haber which nets three runs. Bill Shallcross then crushes a two run bomb to give Demons the 6-0 lead. Demons double that in the fifth inning scoring six more runs. Keith Keppley had a two run triple and Shallcross continued his big game with a two run single later in the inning as Demons lead 12-0 after five innings. Knuckleheads continue to struggle and will end up scoring none in this one, a big disappointment to their playoff hopes. Demons will take this game and have a shot at the championship next week. Demons win 13-0.

Player of the Game:
Bill Shallcross (Demons) – 3/3, HR, 4 RBI’s

Player of the Week:
