FINALLY - Opening Day

Post by latincontrol »

At long last, the Tuesday Men’s season got underway.
First up, we had Team Horsham v. Da Bears

The long layoff and inability to pick up a bat was evident here in game one. A total of 5 runs scored in the entire game showed some may need time to get into mid-season form.
Da Bears scored a run in the 5th off of Adam Ceneviva’s rbi fielders choice and after Kyle tripled in the 6th, he would later score on Jason Adelman’s single.

These two teams held each other scoreless through 4 innings as Horsham did not manage a run until the 5th as well. Brian McEachem doubled and scored on Benji Abercombie’s single. Down 2-1 in the 7th, Brett Saverio reached base on an error and moved to third on Eric Lane’s double. Zach Prendergast would get the game’s key hit when he smashed a 2-run double with one out. Horsham would take the 3-2 lead and hang on for the night’s first victory.

Game 2: Beers v. Philly Junk
Beers seemed to suffer from the delay as well. Held scoreless through the first 4 innings, rbi hits by Connor MacFarlane (single) and Greg Ashton (single) helped plate 2 runs…the only two runs Beers scored.
Philly Junk on the other hand was the night’s first full display of an offense that was ready. Having scored 8 runs through the first 5 innings…Mike Bitterlich and Shane Hanna sealed the game in the 6th. Mike basted a 2-run shot over the Quarry wall and Shane followed with a solo shot of his own. Philly plated 13 and won the game easily.

Game 3: Vertex v. Ballz Deep
Vertex had themselves a problem fielding a full team and it would show on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Sean Nonemacher went 4-4 in his first 4 AB’s with 4 singles and 3 runs scored. Vertex had a good 6th inning in their attempt to keep up offensively with Frank Staber capping the 6-run inning with his 2-run single. Vertex managed 13 for the game…but,
Vertex already had command of the game. Angelo Vitantano singled home 2 runs in the 2nd and Sean Batrica drove in 2 more after a few Vertext miscues. Chris morgan doubled home 2 more in the third and Jason Falcone tripled home 2 in the 4th. Ballz Deep scored 18 for the W.

Game 4: Dingers v. Mike’s Bar & Grill
Mike’s managed several runs through the first two innings with the help of a few walks and defensive miscues; scoring 5 times. In the 6th, they managed to produce their own runs with Kyle Saba hitting a 3-run homer. Pat Shaw also scored bringing their run total to 10.
Dingers on the other hand, played with just 9 but hit well with those 9. Scoring in every inning except the 2nd, we had Rich Schmidt scoring 4 times, Brendan Walker scoring 3 rimes and Dave Demko also scoring 3 times. 18 men crossed the plate in route to their opening night W.
