Playoffs - August 24th, 2020

Post by latincontrol »

We are a week removed from the Tuesday night playoffs, but let’s take a look at the recap for that night and see what took place on the field.

Game One: Beers v. Vertex

As we have said all season-long…if you wanna play with Vertex you need to make sure your boys are ready to hit. Otherwise you can see yourself on the wrong side of the scoreboard. Beers made sure they were up for the task. Ryan Henritzy and Chris Anhalt both drove in two runs in the first inning with their respective doubles. Beers finished the inning with 6 runs scored and got back to work in the 2nd. This time, Connor MacFarlane drove in two with a double of his own helping the teams early offensive showing and scoring a total of 13 through two innings. Ryan Henritzy then singled home two more runs in a 3-run 6th.

The line-up for Vertex was a not the usual firepower from top to bottom, but the top sure as hell showed up. Sean Nonemacher went 3-4 with a triple short of the cycle (5th inning homer), Matt Crowell scored 4 times, Matt Schaub with a phenomenal line going 5-5 with two homers (1st inning 3-run shot & 5th inning 2-run shot) all while scoring 5 times and Zach Martin blasted a 3-run shot of his own in the 4th…driving in 4 and scoring twice. Top four hitters combined to score 14 times. Keith Crowell drove in the 19th run in the 7th for Vertex, but they could not pull off the complete rally to either tie or win. Vertex falls, 20-19.

Game Two: Da Bears v. Kahn & Bobrin

Da Bears taking on a K&B team who for the past couple of week have been bringing it on offense. Quickly, Bears score four times in the first highlighted by Adam Ceneviva’s triple. Sean Valanza hit an inside-the-park 3-run homer in the 4th…but the team managed just 2 hits in all other innings combined.

K&B came to play. Six singles, 2 walks and a double led to 7, first inning runs quickly erasing the early deficit and they never looked back. Grant Opalisky started the 2nd with a solo bomb and consecutive doubles by Eric Lane & Zach Prendegast led to 4 runs. Grant doubled home two more in the 3rd, Eric drove in two more runs in the 3rd and 5th and Vince Paone made sure to seal the game with a mercy-inducing rbi single in the 5th inning. K&B went up 15 and well…game over.

Game Three: Beers v. Ballz Deep

Well, things certainly did not get easier for Beers as they had to now deal with the offense of Ballz Deep. But they were there to play. Kevin Dooley tripled and scored in the first, Ryan H tripled and scored in the 2nd, Connor MacFarlane smashed a 3-run homer in the 3rd…while Kevin singled home 2 more runs in the 5th and Ryan tripling for a 2nd time driving in another. Beers stayed hot offensively, plating 17 men.

Ballz Deep, well, went ballz deep again. Angelo Vitantonio hit a pair of two-run homers in the 3rd and 6th respectively. Jarrett Kerns doubled home 2 and homered driving in 3 more in the 6th. Jacob McDevitt with a inside the park granny in the 2nd while Joe Dimezza went 4-4 with 4 singles and scored 3 times. Ballz Deep was also there to play and fared better offensively with 25 runs. Ballz Deep on the Finals!

Game Four: Kahn & Bobrin v. Philly Junk

Sure to be a final offensively display on the night, K&B got to work early. Zach P smashed a 2-run homer in the first helping the team plate 4. In the 3rd, same story…Zach smashed another 2-run shot helping team plate 4 more. In the 4th, K&B this time scored 7 times, but Zach right in the middle of things tripling home 2 runs. Mike C doubled home 2 runs in the 6th while Vince P quietly went 4-4 with 3 singled and a triple. Cince scored twice and drive in a run in all 4 AB’s.

Either K&B’s defense became ultra stellar or Philly Junk forgot the bats. The Philly offense stat line for the night was, 6 runs on 16 hits. It’s a great baseball line, but in softball…usually wont get the job done. Ryan Russell had two hits with a run scored and 2 ribbies. Justin Miller with 3 hits, Shane Hanna with 2 hits and 2 ribs, and AndyMay/Brandon Bozek both with 2 hits as well. The night belonged to K&B who move on the Finals to face Ballz Deep.

If the past two weeks can forecast anything…the Finals has to the potential to be a high scoring affair. See yall next week!
