Summer American Championship: Throwdown vs Philly Junk
Throwdown got the scoring started early, dropping 3 runs in the top of the 1st. Philly Junk doubled them up scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the inning. Mike Bitterlich (single), Shane Hanna (triple), Andy May (double) and KC Ingram (homer) combined for a team cycle on four straight hitters. Tom M. hit a solo shot in the top of the 2nd to help Throwdown get a run back. Philly Junk added 5 more runs in the 2nd inning doubles by Nick Mancini and KC Ingram, Shane Hanna's second triple and a 3-run bomb by Mike Bitterlich. After both teams went silent in the 3rd Throwdown would get 2 back in the 4th. Philly Junk added 6 more in their half of the inning to take a 17-6 lead. Mike Bitterlich hit his 2nd 3-run homer of the night to lead the way. Throwdown added 2 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th to cut the deficit to 5. Jon Poore and Axel Alecia hit homers of their own to joing the power show that was taking place. Unfortunately the power ran out and they would fall in game one by a score of 19-12.
Philly Junk kept the scoring going bringing home 4 runs in the first led by a KC Ingram 2-run triple. They would add another in the second. Throwdown would only muster 2 runs over the first 2 innings that included a Tom M. solo shot. Philly Junk used the long ball as part of a 5-run 3rd to build an 8 run lead. Mike and Shane went back to back for what seems like the 30th time this year. Mike came right back in the 4th with a grand slam to push the lead out to 14-2. In the bottom of the 5th Throwdown's bats woke up. 8 runs brought them right back into the game. Extra base hits by Pete, Jon and Axel did most of the damage. Mike Bitterlich hit his 3rd homer of the game, a 3-run shot, in the top of the 6th to give Philly Junk a little more cushion. After scoring 1 in the bottom of the 6th and then holding Philly Junk off the board in the 7th, Throwdown needed 7 runs to keep the game going. Their prayers would be answered. They scored 7 runs, 3 of which off a game tying homer by Axel. Philly Junk refused to let that derail them to the free t-shirt. They plated 3 runs in the top of the 8th off of a 3-run homer by Shane Hanna. Throwdown could have laid down but they decided to throwdown instead. They singled and walked their way to a 4-run 8th inning! A walkoff win in game two for Throwdown. Final score: 24-23
