Fall - Week 5 - 9/24/19

Game 1: Vertex v. Coal Fried Pizza

CFP started the nights 4 games playing the field short handed against a very good Vertex offense. Needless to say, not a good day at the park for them. Justin Gaumer did manage two hits in the game which included a 1st inning triple in which he later scored. Justin Knapp went 3-3 with 3 singles, 2 runs scored and 2 ribbies. But CFP managed just 5 runs and this would not be enough even with a full team.

Vertex on the other hand, well, just plan went off. Justin Miller scored 4 times, Shane Hanna didn’t need to have less fielders on the team, he continued to launch balls over the fence..this time smashing two bombs, a 2-run shot and a grand slam. Keith Crowell was perfect on the night with 5 hits and drove in EIGHT runs and all but one hitter in the game scored 3 or more times. Vertex scored 38 times and well, they won.

Game 2: Team Horsham v. Vertex

Horsham looking to cool down the vertex offense on this night at least had 10 men on the field. But offensively, those 10 men managed just 6 runs with 5 of them coming in the 3rd. Casey Saverio, Brett Saverio & Vince Paone all drove in a run the frame while Adam Lightkep singled home the 6th run in the 5th.

But Vertex did not cool down. KC Ingram homered in the 3rd, Keith tripled in the 4th, Brandon B had a 3-3 night out of the 11 hole and Matt Schaubby made sure he got in on the home action, blasting his own 2-run homer. Vertex pushed another 21 runs across and finished the night with an 59-11 two game W.

Game 3: Beers v. Dingers

Beers entered the game also playing with 9, but those 9 made the best of their multiple AB’s opportunity. Ryan Calabro, from the lead off spot, tripled 2 times while scoring 4 times and driving in 4. Ryan Maley homered twice and also doubled twice while driving in 6. Ryan Whitely came a HR short of the cycle while scoring 3 times and pushing 3 more across. Beers may have been short on the line up but came up big offensively with a 26 run outburst.

Dingers needed to take advantage of a big field and push across a lot of offense, but…nope. Chris Nanion singled home 2 in the 2nd, Connor O’Keefe doubled home 2 in the 3rd and Brandon Walked homered in the 6th. Dingers managed 10 runs, but giving up 26 will cause you to lose the game.

Game 4: Mike’s Bar & Grill v. Cale’s Pale Ales

Offensively, both teams did well. CPA got on the board quickly with 4 runs in the first, Dan Martin highlighting the inning with a 2-run double. Matt Gilbert singled home 2 in the 2nd after the bases were loaded with walks issued and back-to-back doubles in the 7th helped push across 4 more runs as CPA finished with 14.

While 14 is good, Mike’s did better. Dave Shannon had himself a night with a 4-5 performance which included a single, a double, 2 triples, 3 runs scored and 6 rbi. John Biondo also had a nice night going 2-3 with 2 walks, a triple, 3 runs scored and 2 ribbies. Mike’s scored 25 times and handed CPA another loss, despite a better offensively performance on their end.
