The charges for a physical attack on an official of a sporting event in the state of Pennsylvania can range as follows...…

(a) Aggravated battery, from a second-degree felony to a first-degree felony.
(b) Aggravated assault, from a third-degree felony to a second-degree felony.
(c) Battery, from a first-degree misdemeanor to a third-degree felony.
(d) Assault, from a second-degree misdemeanor to a first-degree misdemeanor.

If convicted, the penalties for a physical attack on an official of a sporting event in the state of Pennsylvania can range as follows...…

Felony, first degree: $10,000, 30 years imprisonment.
Felony, second degree: $10,000, 15 years imprisonment.
Felony, third degree: $5,000, 5 years imprisonment.
Misdemeanor, first degree: $1,000, 1 year imprisonment.
Misdemeanor, second degree: $500, 60 days imprisonment.

In the eyes of the Amateur Softball Association, which is extremely protective of its officials, merely threatening an official is a very serious offense and punishable by as much as 5 years worth of suspension in any and all ASA affiliated leagues and tournaments.

So... the next time you want to knock an umpire's block off, or just threaten to do so, take a moment to think of the consequences beforehand.

Should this incident be reported to the ASA, an official hearing will take place involving the offending player(s), a player rep, the ASA District Commissioner (Jeff Sell), and the offended official(s). An attack on any league official is serious business and will not be taken lightly.

I do not have all the facts, but preliminary reports are not good regarding general team conduct during one of yesterday's contests at Luken's Park. Cursing, threats, name-calling and bat-throwing are some of the things I'm hearing went down. Why there were no game ejections is something I will ask the umpire in charge. Behavior like this is completely unacceptable, not only because it is in a park environment where there are township residents that don't need nor want to see or hear garbage like that, but because it is an embarrassment to me, the league in general, and every member of the league. We are playing a game. We are adults. Behavior like this is totally inexcusable.

I don't like to give ultimatums and I don't enjoy forcibly removing teams from the league, but for the sake of the general league population, teams that fail to abide by a our league code of conduct will either be replaced or not invited back the following season. Personally, I would rather have 10 teams enjoying themselves in a given league than one with 20 teams, 10 of which are creating issues. Teams with issues take away the fun of the game for everyone.

Nancy Razzi (Rusty's Hoes, Thursday Women's) has been issued a mandatory 1 game suspension as a result of a game ejection on 09/18/08 for recklessly throwing her bat in disgust. An additional 1 game suspension has been issued for blatant disrespect toward the umpire. This suspension is effective immediately. Suspended players are prohibited from attending the game or being on the ball field grounds.

By the way, this post was in jest. Nancy did not get ejected, nor was she suspended. She did, however, have a lot of fun with it.

A failed attempt by Paddywacks' manager Sean Pena to disguise himself so he could play in spite of a game suspension has resulted in a Paddywacks (Sunday Men's) forfeit on 10/12/08. A team conspiracy to hide Sean Pena's identity has resulted in Paddywacks no longer being a welcomed team in Softball America.

Sean Pena (Paddywacks, Sunday Men's) has been suspended from Softball America for an indefinite period of time for his display of vulgarity toward the game scorekeeper and blatant disrespect for the league. Paddywacks roster members in attendance; Sean Pena, Keith Walili, Jeff Cohen, Gary Radziak, Mike Quinn, Harry Parfitt, Bill Kennedy, Ryan Cullen, Andrew Silverman.

Per league rules...

FORFEITS: A team forfeiting a 2nd time in any season will be required to remit a $45.00 forfeit fee to the scorekeeper before their next game. The forfeit fee will be shared by the 2 teams receiving the forfeits ($22.50 each).

Maggies (Sunday Men's), must remit a $45.00 forfeit fee before they can re-enter the league. The two teams to receive the forfeit money are Balls Out and Rosengren Builders.

Bill Yokobosky (Big Heads, Friday Coed) has been issued a mandatory 1 game suspension as a result of a post-game ejection on 10/24/08.
As per league bylaws...

An umpire is responsible for what happens on the ball field grounds before a game, during a game, between games, and after a game. An umpire not only has the right, but an obligation to the league and its members to maintain control at all times and may, at their discretion, address conduct unbecoming the league by issuing game suspensions before, during, and after games.
This suspension is effective immediately. Suspended players are prohibited from attending the game or being on the ball field grounds.
