Asking/Getting Help From An Umpire

Post by sixofdiamonds »

When 2 or more umpires are working a game and there is reasonable doubt that an umpire decision was the correct one, a manager, and only a manager, may make an appeal to the umpire that made the call and only the umpire that made the call. The manager's job at that point is to raise reasonable doubt in the mind of the umpire that made the call and request that he/she ask the other umpire for information relative to the call before making a final decision. This request is just that, a request. If the umpire you are appealing to is confident his/her call is the correct one, he/she is not obligated to ask the 2nd umpire for help.

No umpire shall criticize, seek to reverse or interfere with another umpire's call unless asked to do so by the umpire that made the call. As umpire, any requests for an appeal of another umpire's call should fall on deaf ears by anyone other than the umpire that made the call.
