Opening Day - March 30th

Opening Day for the Tuesday Men’s 2021 Spring Season…4 games to take a look back on.

First Game:
Beers v. Dingers

This was all Beers. Josh Goldberg tripled home 2 in the first and was followed with rbi doubles by Matt Kane and Greg Ashton. Ryan Henritzy hit a 2-run homer in the 2nd while Ryan Maley add a 3-run shot of his own in the 6th. Scott Runzel finished the night with a 5-5 line which included 4 runs scored.

Mike Casbar is the lone highlight for Dingers. A 2-run ‘dinger’ in the first was half of the offensive production on the night…for the entire team. Jake Zbarsky tripled and scored in the 2nd inning. Dingers scored just 4 runs while Beers scored 20. Beers take the Tuesday league opening night game decisively.

Second Game:
King’s Corner v. Mike’s Bar & Grill

As the first game on the night, this one was all KC. The King’s offense was certainly clicking in this game but not helping matters was Mikes inability to field a ball cleanly. Mikes committed 7 errors on the night and when you add Matt Schaub driving in 6 runs on 4 hits (3-R HR in 6th) and Frank Staber driving 4 runs on 4 hits of his own, the game just simply got out of control for the Bar & Grill squad. KC scored 27 times with 13 of those runs coming in the 6th inning. That’s putting the nail in the coffin.

John Brando homered in the first inning while Corey Eyerman and Matt Grebe drove in runs in the 4th. Kyle Saba tripled and scored in the 5th but the offense just could not keep up with the Kings men or their own defense. Mike’s scored just 6 times and well…that led to a mercy game as Mikes took the L…27-6.

Third Game:
HG Coal Fire Pizza v. Philly Junk

The trend continued on this spring night. Here in the 3rd game…it was all Philly Junk. Philly team has their reputation of the game’s most revered hitters so it goes without saying that bringing your ‘A’ game against these guys is a must. But didn’t happen here. Pizza crew scored just 2 runs. One by way of two consecutive Philly errors in the 3rd (AJ Baguslinski scored) and Adam Hebert hitting a single and scoring in the 4th by way of another infield error. Two runs just won’t do it against most teams…especially this one.

Philly needed just 3 innings of offense to end this game. Mike Bitterlich decimated the defense with a 4-4 night which included 2 doubles and a 3-run homer. Mike also scored 4 times. Brandon Birkhead smashed a 3-run shot in the 3rd and Brandon Bozek managed 3 hits in 3 AB’s while driving in 4. Philly scored 22 times and generated the 2nd mercy game of the night, 22-2.

Fourth Game:
Dookie Brewster v. Team Horsham

While this game was certainly closer than any of the other 3 prior to it, it was still not really a game. Brewster crew which also contains some of the league’s best offensive performers, this line up really does not have any holes. Opponents are going to have to be sharp defensively and bring their offense to complete.

Horsham crew didn’t really get going until the 5th. Leading up to the 5th inning they had managed to push 3 runs across and then consecutive XBH from Brett Saverio (2b), Brian McEachron (2b), Eric Lane (3b) helped generate 5 runs in the 5th. Brian later doubled in the 6th to cap off a 3-run 6th inning. While Horsham did manage to score 11…well, Brewster squad fared much better.

Right from the jump, Tom Koelzer put a ball into orbit with a 3-run shot in the first inning. Chris Hackney was in the middle of helping generate 2 more runs in the 2nd with his rbi double, Koelzer with a SF in the 3rd, Axel Alicea kicking off a 3-run 4th inning with a double, Jon Poore and Ryan Goodman with rbi singles in the 5th, Jose Rodriguez driving in 2 with his single in the middle of a 6-run sixth inning and Jarred Gardner quietly clearing the bags in the 7th inning with a double helping generate 5 more runs. You get the picture…a lot of offense can be generated quickly with this line up and this is a possibly a taste of a fun offensive season for the Brewster crew.
Horsham scored 11, Brewster more than doubled with 24.
