A formal protest was lodged yesterday against I'd Hit That (Sunday Coed) for failure to abide by the all-star/eddie rule.

All-Star/Eddie Rule, All-Star Cap
Not more than 5 all-stars are permitted in a coed batting line-up at any given time. A coed team batting line-up containing 5 all-stars shall abide by the all-star/eddie rule and must at all times maintain a batting line-up that contains at least 5 eddies. A team with a batting line-up containing 4 or less all-stars will abide by regular coed rules. If at any point during the regular season, by any member of SBA, a team using 5 all-stars is found to be in default of the all-star/eddie rule, that team will forfeit all games in which the infraction occurred. The same punishment will hold true for a team using more than 5 all-stars at any given time. All-stars are determined by the league and shall be adjusted yearly. A coed team cannot use a non-roster eddie sub to satisfy all-star/eddie requirements.

In looking over the score sheets, the league statistician has determined I’d Hit That was in direct violation of the All-Star/Eddie rule in 5 games (4 wins and 1 tie).

8-30-15 VIOLATION, win 10-0
9-13-15a LEGAL, win 17-10
9-13-15b LEGAL, win 20-5
9-20-15 VIOLATION, tie 15-15
9-27-15 VIOLATION, win 8-4
10-04-15a VIOLATION, win 10-9
10-04-15b VIOLATION, win 19-2

As a result, the games in which I’d Hit That won or tied while being in violation of the rule, must be changed to a loss. Individual statistics will remain as is. League standings have been adjusted.

Mike Haberle (Amber Inn, Sunday Men's) was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct on 10/18/15. In violation of ASA rule, the game umpire reinstated Mr. Haberle back into the game. Once a player is ejected from a game, the player is finished and must leave the ball field grounds. The game will be replayed from the point of the infraction. The ASA umpire has been suspended for an indefinite period of time.

Once ejected from the original game, Mike Haberle should not have been permitted to re-enter the game. Mike Haberle will serve his ejection for the replay game. Mike Haberle will also serve his mandatory 1-game suspension on October 25th when Amber Inn plays the Bandits.

Get to the Choppa (Sunday Men's B West) was notified well in advance of a rescheduled summer season game via email, website post, and posted schedule. After failing to read the email thoroughly or check the website or schedule, the team showed up completely unaware of the schedule revision. Caught be surprise the day of the game, the team became quite irate. The team manager insisted I did not send any email and demanded proof. Proof was immediately sent, but apparently it was not good enough. It was implied I was a liar. I was labeled unprofessional.

I've been called a lot of things in my 16 years running Softball America, a liar and/or unprofessional would not be on that list. Get to the Choppa will not be invited to return to the league next year.

The Misfits (Sunday Men's B East), after sending in a firm commitment to play Sunday Men's fall season, bailed out less than 24 hours of the fall season Opening Day. ASA team registrations are remitted based on the number of committed teams. League schedules are based upon the number of committed teams. The Sunday Men's schedule is by far the most difficult schedule to build. When a team pulls out, the entire schedule needs to be revised. A last second defection after offering a firm commitment is unacceptable. The Misfits will not be invited to return to the league next year.

The HK's (Sunday Men's National Conference) forfeited no less than 3 games this past fall season. 2 of the 3 forfeits were without prior notice to the league or the opposing team. Posted on each and every schedule in each and every league is the following…

A team forfeiting more than 1 regular season game in a season may be subject to dismissal from the league.

The HK's will not be invited to return to the league next year.

Richard Stead (Irish Car Bombs, Friday Men's) has been issued a 3-game league suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct on 11/13/15 (tampering with ball field lights forcing a game cancellation). He will not be eligible to play in Game 3 of the Friday Men’s Finals. As well, Mr. Stead will serve an additional 2 games if/when he decides to re-enter the Friday Men’s league at any point moving forward. Suspended players are prohibited from attending the game or being on the ball field grounds.

A formal protest was lodged this week against Kings & Queens (Wednesday Coed) for failure to abide by the all-star/eddie rule.

On April 13, 2016 in the 1st game of the evening at Hatfield vs. PUNKS, Kings & Queens used 5 all-stars and only 4 roster eddies - placing the team in direct violation of the all-star/eddie rule. While they played the game with 5 eddies, the 5th eddie was non-roster. League rules clearly state a coed team cannot use a non-roster eddie sub to satisfy all-star/eddie requirements.

As a result, the Kings & Queens' win will turn into a forfeit loss. The PUNKS' loss will turn into a 7-0 win by default. Individual statistics will remain as is. Final standings will be adjusted.
