B East Spring Season Preview and Odds

Post by ntodd71 »

With the 2022 spring season set to be underway (no thanks to the rain canceling the openers), let’s take a look at the teams and some futures for the upcoming season.

Sunday Scaries

Championship Odds: +325

Last season: 5-3, spring season win total O/U 5.5

Sunday Scaries were a model of consistency last year going 5-3, 5-3, and 5-3 across the 2021 softball year. They are coming off two seasons where they fell to the eventual champions in the summer and fall sessions. With the competition being promoted, they are the oddsmakers’ favorite for the 2022 spring championship. Managed by Josh Persing, Sunday Scaries open their season at Cedar Hill vs. Purple Cobras.

Dave and Confused (fka Amber Inn)

Championship odds: +400

Last Season: 6-2, spring season win total O/U 5.0

Dave and Confused will be looking to keep their momentum going after being the #1 seed in the fall season and ultimately losing in the semifinals to the now promoted Sons of Pitches. Their 2021 spring season got off to a rough start, going 2-6, before rebounding with a 4-4 record in the summer and finishing on a high note with a 6-2 fall season. Led by the Graves brothers, slugger Mark McKinney, John Fine and Carl Ervin, Dave and Confused are expected to contend for another #1 seed and championship appearance. They open their season this week at Hatfield vs. Palz Tap House.

Dirt Stars

Championship Odds: +700

Last Season: 5-3, spring season win total O/U 4.5

Similar to Dave and Confused, it took the Dirt Stars a season to kick it into high gear, starting 2021 off with an identical 2-6 record in the spring, before rebounding with solid 5-3 campaigns in both the summer and fall. Dirt Stars made the playoffs in the latter two seasons, losing in the semifinals to Sunday Scaries to end both. Led by co-managers “Consider Me” Myles Davis, and Dan “The Man” Curran, Dirt Stars open their season at Cedar Hill vs. Philly’s Phinest.

Cifelli Sunoco

Championship Odds: +950

Last season: 3-5, spring season win total O/U 3.5

Cifelli Sunoco started off hot to begin the fall season, tuning up the Yankee Clippers 33-13 before ultimately finishing the year 3-5, due to a number of forfeitures. After starting 2021 in the B West division, Cifelli Sunoco finished the spring season 4-4 with a playoff appearance, before going 7-0-1 in the summer and losing to Sons of Pitches in the semifinals. With the best ability being availability, Cifelli Sunoco looks to be the dark horse in the B East division. When they field 10, they are one of the top teams in the division. Led by co-managers Mike Cifelli and Sam Ryan, Cifelli Sunoco open their season at Cedar Hill vs. The Yankee Clippers.

Yankee Clippers

Championship Odds: +1600

Last season: 1-6-1, spring season win total O/U 3.5

The Yankee Clippers had a nightmare year in 2021, going an abysmal 0-8 in the spring season before tucking their tails, bowing out of the summer season, and limping to a 1-6-1 finish in the fall. Rumors swirled that their paltry play was the reason that Brickhouse Tap and Tavern on Easton Road closed their doors for good. Led by manager Nick Todd, who is firmly on the hot seat, the Yankee Clippers added a number of new free agent acquisitions to help improve the team. With free agent signee Zach Downs, slugger Kai Browner, and savvy veterans Will Jensen and Glen Hipple, the Yankee Clippers open their season at Cedar Hill with a doubleheader, vs. Purple Cobras followed by Cifelli Sunoco.

Philly’s Phinest

Championship Odds: +1800

Last season: 4-3-1, spring season win total O/U 3.5

Philly’s Phinest started off 2021 in the B West, where they had a 2-6 record to start the year. They heated up in a big way come summertime, going 6-2 and winning a B West championship prior to moving up to the B East division. They finished strong, going 4-3-1 in the fall, before losing to Sons of Pitches in the first round of the postseason. Led by the father/son duo of Ray Rocks and Ray Jr., and their manager “John Q” Quartullo, Philly’s Phinest opens at Cedar Hill vs. Dirt Stars.

Palz Tap House

Championship Odds +2200

Last season: 4-3-1 (summer), spring season win total O/U 3.5

Led by manager Ryan Nakonieczny, Palz Tap House sported a 2-6 record in the spring, improved to 4-3-1 in the summer, and then took off the fall season. According to league sources, the reason they didn’t play fall is because of their commitment to tailgating Philadelphia Eagles home games. With some new teams and the layoff, Palz finds themselves in a “prove it” situation for the B East division. With the 3rd toughest schedule for the spring, they’ll look to get off to a quick start in order to solidify a playoff berth. They open their season this week at Hatfield taking on Dave and Confused.

Purple Cobras

Championship Odds +3300

Last season: N/A, spring season win total O/U 2.5

Expansion franchise Purple Cobras enter the B East fray with tons of questions heading into the season. Not much is known about them, or their manager Brandon Roman, but the newcomers will look to shock the world and take home the championship in their first season in Softball America. They open up the season with a doubleheader at Cedar Hill where they take on runners up Sunday Scaries, followed by an easy matchup vs. the reeling Yankee Clippers.
