B North Opening Day

Post by Jmill1734 »

Sunday Funday in B North is back with a vengeance as a nice cast of characters joins the grizzled veterans of the division to compete for softball glory!

Opening Day:

Game 1: Dark Horse v One Hit Wonders

Dark Horse entered opening day as a perennial championship contender but had a difficult time shaking off the offseason rust. They would plate their first run of the year on a Bill Jones single in the 2nd inning, two runs in the 4th inning on doubles from Nick “Sauce” Mariani and Paul Harding, and another run in the 6th on fielder’s choices and an error. Paul Feruzzi would lead the boys in hitting as he went 3 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

One Hit Wonders saw a little more success at the dish as they are able to plate a run in the 1st inning on singles and an error, a run in the 2nd on a Jamie Taylor single, 3 runs in the 3rd on 5 singles, 4 runs in the 4th on back to back doubles from Bill Groff and “el Capitan” Jack Stepnowski, and run in the 5th by way of an Andy Springer two bagger. Jimmy “pressure” Cooker led the hit parade going 3 for 4 with 3 singles, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.

FInal Score: DH - 4, OHW- 10

Game 2: Doc’s Irish Pub v Bulldogs

Doc’s entered the division with a bang as they hammered the ball all over the yard. They would plate 2 runs in the first by way of an Austin Kooker double, 4 runs in the 3rd inning via singles, a run in the 4th on a Ryan Black two bagger, a 6 run outburst in the 5th on singles and a Ryan Fronheiser double, and two more runs in the 7th on another fryin’ Ryan Fronheiser double. Brett and Josh Keszyzyk and Fronhauser pummeled the ball in the middle of the order, going 9 for 13 with 8 runs scored and 10 runs accounted for overall.

The Bulldogs, a scrappy veteran group, struggled to get off the couch as they were able to only scratch 4 runs out in this one. Their first run of the season came by way of a John Hogan triple and a double from yearly MVP candidate Mike Suda. An Anthony Baylor single would score another run in the 4th inning as he plates Pete Burns. John Hogan would once again rip the rock in the 7th inning cranking another double to plate two runs. 7 hits combined from Hogan, Suda, and Shawn Dunn show a lot of promise for a good season from the dogs.

Final Score: Docs - 14, BD - 4

Game 3: Doc’s Irish Pub v Wire 2 Wire

Doc’s would come out in game 2 firing on all cylinders and proving their offense is no joke and a force to be reckoned with. Josh K and Paul Elliot got DIP on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning as they would both double. Once the lid was taken off the basket, it began to rain as the DIPS would hammer home 8 runs in the 3rd inning on 7 singles, 2 walks, and doubles from Dylan Brooks and Paul Elliot. They would continue to score in the 5th as they plate a run on errors, in the 6th as Clay Snyder would plate a run and score on his RBI triple, and 2 runs in the 7th on another Dylan Brooks double. Brooks would be the offensive MVP in this one as he finishes 3 for 4 with a run scored and 4 RBI.

Wire 2 Wire comes into the season looking to continue their string of championship runs, and to prove once again they are the cream of the North crop. Back to back singles and runs from Matt Wass and “preppy” Sean Butrica would get the scoring engine fired up for W2W in the 2nd. They would follow that up with 2 runs in the 3rd inning on a three bagger from Tom Signore and a double from Alex Metz. They would go on to t-off on the softball in the 5th inning as Ben Vitelli, Josh Mcdevitt, Alex Metz, and Butrica all would double and Tom “the bomb” Signore smoked a homerun plating 6 runs. Unfortunately they may have used too many good hits on one rally as that would be all they are able to muster in this one. Tom ”ahawk” Signore sliced and diced his was to a monster game going 3 for 3 and only missing the cycle by a triple.

Final Score: Docs - 14, W2W - 10

Game 4: Ball Busters v Swingers

The Ball Busters join the B North party with a high powered offense, looking to smash their way to a B North crown. Jay Stein got the scoring party going early in this one as he smoked a solo dinger in the 1st. A double from Mike Marceline and a triple from Justin Knapp would push across another run in the 3rd, followed up by 3 runs in the 6th on triples from Brandon Parker and Eric Cohen. They would cap their scoring for the day in the 7th as they would add two more runs on a Jay Stein double and an Andrew Parker homer. Jay Stein gets the nod for man of the match as he went 2 for 3 with a homer, a double and a K to pace the offense.

The Swingers led by a member of the first family of SBA and SBA royalty Ben Razzi, came to battle right away in this one as they scored 2 runs on a Matt Close double. They would sneak across another run in the 3rd inning as Dave Pohle doubled and scored. Close would once again be a man of action as he doubled and scored again in the 6th. The young upstart Swingers couldn’t manage much more in this one though. Matt “the bat” Close was the top dog going 3 for 3 with two doubles.

Final Score: Ball Busters - 7, Swingers 4
