Yankee Clippers vs. Dave and Confused


One of the longest rivalries in Sunday Men’s history continued at Groveland this week, where the Yankee Clippers took on Dave and Confused. Dave and Confused had the advantage in the head-to-head record going in, at 13-12-1. Both teams were quiet in the first inning with zero runs from either side. YC opened up scoring in the top of the 2nd, plating 6 runs by five straight singles and a two RBI triple by “O”Connor Laigaie. DC countered with 4 runs of their own, thanks to a few singles, walks, and a triple by Mark McKinney. YC added on another 2 in the 3rd, scoring on a sac fly and fielder’s choice, while keeping DC off the scoresheet in the bottom of the inning. YC tacked on 4 more in the 4th via walks, singles, and errors. DC got back on the board, plating 1 in the 4th via an RBI double from Mark McKinney. YC dropped 11 more runs between the 5th and 6th inning, with a dozen singles and four doubles between the two innings. With an 18-run deficit to clear, DC nabbed two quick runs off singles and walks, but that was all she wrote as the Yankee Clippers clip Dave and Confused 23-6.



Player(s) of the Game: 3 way tie between the bottom of the order for the Yankee Clippers, as Pat Brennan, Andre O’Donnell, and Eric Rohrback combined to go 11-12, with four doubles, 12 RBIs, and 9 Rs, and zero strikeouts.



Cifelli Sunoco vs. Palz Tap House



Palz starts off strong, plating four runs in the 1st, with a two RBI double by Pete Herbert leading the way. Cifelli counters, scoring one in the 1st via error. Cifelli’s pitching blanks Palz in the 2nd, with a strikeout to end the inning. Taking advantage of the momentum swing, Cifelli get the bats going, with seven singles from the bottom of the order leading to five runs. Palz ties it up at 6 after the top of the 3rd, plating two via error and a double by Danny Freeman. Cifelli puts up three thanks to singles, and a double by Blake Hildebrandt. Trailing by one, Palz puts up another four to take a 1 run lead, with a leadoff double from Nick Hildebrand starting things up and a three RBI double by Pete Herbert to finish things up. Not wanting to go quietly into that goodnight, Cifelli drops a 9er in the 4th, with three singles, three doubles, and Mike Schonagle bookending a leadoff triple with a three run HR. Palz is only able to plate three more runs between the 5th-7th innings, with two doubles and an Andrew Heller triple highlighting the innings. Cifelli plates 2 more in the 6th with some singles, but that’s all she wrote. Cifelli’s takes this one by a score of 20-13.



Player of the Game: Mike Schonagle. Schonagle went 3-5 with a triple, HR, 2 Rs and 4 RBIs that helped Cifelli put up a 9-run 4th inning.



Cifelli Sunoco vs. Sunday Scaries


Sunday Scaries came in with a scouting report in this one, holding Cifelli to only one run through the first four innings of the game. SS managed to plate 13 of their own across the same four innings, playing small ball with a whopping 14 singles and 4 doubles to get the offense going. Cifelli tried to fight their way back in the 5th inning, with Mike Schonagle and Toby Coleman dropping back-to-back bombs, contributing four runs to the cause. SS got two more back with a two RBI single by Pat Deacon doing all the damage. Cifelli potted another two in the 6th with a single by Blake Hildenbrandt knocking in both runs. Cifelli’s blanked SS in the 6th, with SS returning the favor in the bottom of the 7th. SS added some insurance runs in the top of the 7th with three singles, three doubles, and a Matt Horn solo bomb getting them 5 more runs. Sunday Scaries takes this one with a 20-7 final.



Player of the Game: Matt Horn. Horn went 4-4 with a HR, 3 Rs, and 3 RBIs on the day to pace Sunday Scaries offense.



Sunday Scaries vs. Dirt Stars


Sunday Scaries came in looking to sweep the doubleheader, and started out strong plating a 9er in the first with eight singles, and a Bobby Scholly two bagger pacing the offense. Dirt Stars put up two in the bottom of the 1st with doubles by Bobby McHugh, Dan Owens, and Shawn Mackley leading the way. SS scores another three in the top of the 2nd, with another Bobby Scholly double as the highlight. Dirt Stars goose eggs the bottom of the 2nd. SS only plates one via singles and fielder’s choices in the top of the 3rd, while Dirt Stars’ bats wake up and throw up a 5 spot by way of singles and a John Boyle three run HR. With the lead down to six for SS, they opted to wake up the bats for one more go around, and plated 14 across the 4th and 5th innings, with fourteen singles and two doubles paving the way. DS could only muster up four more runs in this one, giving Sunday Scaries the 27-11 win.



Player of the Game: Gotta give it to John Boyle in a losing effort. Boyle went 3-3 with a HR and 5 RBIs for Dirt Stars.



Purple Cobras vs. Philly’s Phinest

The Purple Cobras came out swinging in this one, plating 6 in the 1st inning with three walks, three singles, and a double by Mike Corrigan sparking the offense. Phinest cut it to 3 in the bottom, with Tony Summers hitting a bases clearing, two RBI triple as the catalyst. Cobras plate two in the 2nd, courtesy of back-to-back doubles by Brandon Roman and Cody “Road” Runner. Phinest strikes back with 5 to tie the game at 8 after the 2nd, with two walks and four singles, highlighted by a 2 RBI single from Tony Summers. Cobras put up another 4 runs in the top of the 3rd, with Brandon Roman blasting a 3-run bomb, and “Road” Runner roping a triple. Phinest goose egged the bottom of the 3rd, and returned the favor in the top of the 4th, keeping PC scoreless. Phinest put up 2 more in the 4th to cut the lead to 2, with doubles by Dillon Richards and the ageless wonder Mike Rocks Sr. Cobras answer with 2 runs of their own, with a trio of singles from Manny Rodriguez, Robby Villa, and Brandon Roman. Phinest answer in the bottom of the 5th with a solo dinger by Ray “Go Kick” Rocks. Cobras return fire with one of their own in the bottom of the sixth, with another trio of singles. Phinest get one more back, thanks to a bases loaded walk by Tony Summers, but they left three men on to end the inning. Going into the top of the 7th nursing a 3-run lead, Cobras leave the bases loaded themselves, and can’t muster up a run. Phinest took two walks to start the bottom, before two fielder's choices and a ground out to the shortstop end the game. Purple Cobras take this one by a score of 15-12.



Player(s) of the Game: Brandon Roman and Cody Runner killed it combining to go 6-9 (nice) with two doubles, a triple, a HR, six RBIs and five Rs between them.
