B North 5/1

Post by Jmill1734 »

From scoring droughts to bat arounds, with every player in the lineup hitting and scoring, this week saw a bit of everything in B North...

B North
Ball Busters 16 - Dark Horse 11
Bulldogs 8 - One Hit Wonders 7
One Hit Wonders 25 - Doc's Irish Pub 2
Wire2Wire 23 - Swingers 5

Game 1: Ball Busters v Dark Horse

The Ball Busters opened the scoring in this one with a run in the top of the 1st as Zach “attack” Lyall tripled and scored on a sac fly. They would follow up that run with a bat around in the 3rd which saw 6 runs cross the dish, highlighted by back to back to back doubles from Justin Cohen, Eric Knapp and Mike Marcelline. They would go “crooked number” again in the 4th as an Andrew Fratanglei double sparked the rally. Another Zach “attack” for a double and a dinger from Andrew Parker would continue the crooked number trend in the 5th as well as 4 more runs scored. They would put on a bow on the scoring outburst as the best last hitter in a lineup Andrew Fratanglei would once again double and score. Biggest buster of the game was Zach Lyall who went 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored, only missing the cycle by a homer.

Dark Horse got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the 2nd as hard hitting Paul Harding smacked a double and scored. They would add another run in the 3rd as Paully Softball this time roped a triple to plate a run. Paul Feruzzi joined the triple parade in the 5th as he tripled and scored a run as well. Down but not out, the Horses would push across 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th led by a Tim “sky” Walker triple and another double from Paully Softball. Unfortunately, that would be all they could muster in this one. The most hung horse was Paul Harding as he smoked the yellow pill, going 4 for 4 with 3 extra base hits!

Final Score: Ball Busters 16- Dark Horse 11

Game 2: Bulldogs v One Hit Wondahs

The hot hitting, cagey veteran Bulldogs would jump on the Wondahs early in this one as Anthony Bates would double in a run and score giving them an early 2-0 lead. Singles and some wonky base running plate two more runs for the boys in the top of the 2nd. After a quiet middle of the game, “hulking” John Hogan smoked a double and scored. A quiet 7th inning would pave the way for “free” softball as we went to the 8th inning where the dogs hammered home 3 runs, led by another double from the Hulkster, John Hogan. The dog of the day was Peter Burns who hammered his way to a 3 for 3 day, scoring 2 runs.

The Wondahs would also plate a run in the 1st as Jesse Grasso singled and scored. 5 straight singles from the bottom of the order would help push across 4 more runs in the 2nd inning to jump the Wonders out to an early lead. Softball can be a weird game though, as the Wonder boys would not score again until the 8th (?!) inning as they attempted to come back from 3 runs down but could only plate two on singles. The most wonderful player of the week was leadoff Jesse Grasso who went 3 for 4 on the day and scored a run.

Final Score: Bulldogs 8 - Wonders 7

Game 3: One Hit Wonders v Docs Irish Pub

Like I said, softball is a weird game sometimes… In game 2 of their double header, the Wonders were all wonderful as they hammer home 12 runs in the 1st inning highlighted by doubles from Grasso, Trivino, Springer and Owens, combined with a triple from Rob Gisondi. They would follow up with another run in the 2nd as Jason Hammer doubled in a run. Firing on all cylinders, the Wonders would drop back to back 6 spots in the 3rd and 4th innings, The rallies were based around the all mighty power of the single with doubles from Andy Springer and Bill Groff sprinkled in for good measure. The most wonderful player in game 2 was Andy Springer who went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles to propel the middle of the order.

Docs got off to a great start as AJ Bagushinski singled and scored in the bottom of the 1st. Sometimes, and it happens to everyone, when you get too much going too soon it's hard to sustain it for long, and after an early scoring burst, Docs bats had a hard time getting going again until the bottom of the 4th when sweet swinging Dylan Brooks cranked a triple and scored. The most decorated Doc of the game was Mr. Brooks who went 2 for 2 with a triple.

Final Score: Wondahs 25 - Docs 2

Game 4: Wire2Wire v Swingers

The Podcasters opened a can in the top of the 1st as they bat around to the tune of 6 runs, highlighted by doubles from Jacob McDevitt, Tom Signore, and Greg Guarino. After a brief commercial break to thank their sponsors in the 2nd, the boys once again went on a scoring rampage, plating 13 runs in the 3rd as every player in the lineup got a hit and scored. For good measure they would plate another run in the 4th on singles and 3 more in the 5th because why not, on singles and walks. The highest viewed podcaster was big Geno who laced the yellow pill all over the yard to the tune of a 4 for 4 game, only missing the cycle by a dinger.

The Swingers swang the bat best in the bottom of the 3rd as they plate 3 runs on 5 singles. They would follow that up with 2 more runs in the 5th inning on a 2 run single from Dal Hoover. The swingiest swingers of the day was cleanup hitter Brian Close who was 2 for 2 on the day and Dale Hoover who went 2 for 3 and had both a run scored and 2 RBI.

Final Score: Wire2Wire 23 - Swingers 5
