Dave and Confused vs. Philly’s Phinest

Slow starts for both squads through the first two innings of this one, as Dave and Confused put up 2 runs in the first two innings, while keeping Philly’s Phinest off the scoresheet. Three doubles by Dave Graves, Bryon McMackin, and Kevin Noone paced DC’s offense. Going into the top of the 3rd with a 2-0 lead, DC added another 4 spot, to widen the gap to 6-0. Four singles, two sac flies, and a Carl Ervin double were the highlights. Phinest returned fire in the bottom of the 3rd, plating four of their own by way of four singles, and doubles by Mike Rocks Sr. and Jr. Neither team can muster a run in the 4th or 5th, and Phinest manages to keep DC off the board in the top of the 6th as well. Phinest ties it up at 6 apiece, thanks in part to a 2 RBI single by Sean Boyle. Dave Graves lit a cigarette and woke his team up at the top of the 7th however, and DC dropped a 10-spot to break the tie. Patience and team ball were the key for DC, as they took 8 walks, hit two doubles, and one single to generate the offense. Phinest, for their part, had Mike Sr. and Jr. start off the 7th with back-to-back doubles, but they could only muster two more runs in this one. Dave and Confused light some victory cigs, 16-8 final.

Player of the Game: John Hickman, Dave and Confused. Hickman hit lead off for DC and had a solid outing, going 3-4 with two singles, a walk, and a bases clearing double. He also scored 3 runs.

Philly’s Phinest vs. Palz Tap House

Phinest gets off to a hot start in this one, putting up 4 runs off five singles, and a 3-run home run by Ray ‘Go Kick’ Rocks. Palz couldn’t muster a run in the bottom, but it didn’t matter anyway, because a John Quartallo ejection led to a benches clearing brawl. This one got ruled a double forfeit. Expect commissioner Les Greenstein to be levying some harsh suspensions in the coming days. Final 0-0.

Low point of the Game: Ambler PD having to be called to the scene to break up grown men fighting about a leisure sport. It’s a bad look, fellas.

Sunday Scaries vs. Yankee Clippers

In a stark contrast to the previous game, rumor has it these two teams civilly cracked some beers at Big Heads after this one finished. Sunday Scaries went with the Moneyball approach to start this one, putting up 5 runs in first 4 innings. Four walks, five singles, and a Rico Jones double paced the offense. The Yankee Clippers were able to match SS, with 5 runs of their own through the first 4. Five singles, two walks, and a Rich Brazukas double led the way. Scares plated 3 more at the top of the 5th, with three singles and a Kris Karaba double doing the damage. Clippers went down quietly in the bottom of the inning. They get payback in the top of the 6th, by keeping Scaries off the board. YC cut the lead to 2 at the bottom of the 6th, knocking in 1 run from a Terry Heller single. Scaries put up a 3 spot to widen the lead to 11-6. Two singles, a walk, and an Adam Allman 3-bagger propelled the offense. Headed into the bottom of the 7th, the Clippers go walk, single, double to get the offense going. Unfortunately, a ground out to 1st, fielder’s choice, and line out to SS ended the comeback. Sunday Scaries win without violence, 11-8 final.

Player of the Game: No player on either side stood out, but Adam Allman’s triple put the nail in the coffin of this one. Allman went 1-1 with two walks and a sac-fly, to go along with the 3 bagger.

Dirt Stars vs. Purple Cobras

Dirt Stars didn’t field a team in this one. Purple Cobras wins 7-0 forfeit.
