B North 5/22

Post by Jmill1734 »

As the weather heats up, so do the bats of B North, as this week saw multiple slugfests across the most competitive division in SBA.

B North
Ball Busters 22 - Bulldogs 7
Swingers 22 - One Hit Wonders 19
Wire2Wire 19 - Dark Horse 10
Doc's Irish Pub 13 - Dark Horse 13

Game 1: Bulldogs v Ball Busters

There is not much worse than showing up for a 9 am game and being short… but welcome to Sunday Softball. The Bulldogs battled valiantly as they would hammer hme 4 runs in the 3rd on 6 singles. Following that outburst, they would get the hit machine fired up again in the 4th inning as Spenser Slutsky smacked a double and CC Witt cranked a dinger helping plate 3 runs. That was all this feisty squad could manage in this one. Usually I try to highlight the player of the game but this week we are going to discuss the guy who had the roughest day so they can be mocked throughout the week by their team. This week's dog is Shaun Dunn. Typically a sweet swinging powerhouse, Dunn is rarely a guy in line for a ribbing from his teammates but a 1-4 day and getting hosed at the plate deserves a little bit of trash talk.

The Ball Busters busted the ball early as they hammer home 4 runs in the first highlighted by an Andrew Parker homer. They would add 3 more in the 2nd on a homer from Jay Stein and a Parker double, followed by another 4 runs in the 4th on singles and a Andrew Frangeli two- bagger. Using the power of the bat around in the 5th inning, the Ball Buster came early and often to the plate and smoked the ball all over the yard, headlined by a double from Ty Cohen, a triple from Jay Stein and a ding dong from Brendan Parker. Ken Stein and Zack Lyzll are this week’s Busters as they each ONLY went 1 for 4 with a run scored.

Game 2: Swingers v One Hit Wonders

The Swingers opened up scoring early as they plate 3 runs over the first two innings on singles and a Dion Greene double. They would use singles and errors to double their scoring in the 3rd. In the 4th Dale Hoover didn’t suck and Ben Razzi Razzle Dazzled as both players cranked homers in a double bat around plating 15. Exhausted from all the base running they were only able to muster 1 more run the rest of the way on a Matt Close double. A 1 for 4 from leadoff Dave Pohle makes him the ONLY player to not score a run in the scoring bombardment.

One Hit Wonders got going early as doubles from Jesse Grasso and “el capitan” Jack Stepnowski paced a 5 run inning. Every other guy cranking a two run homer was fun for a while as Captain Jack, Andy Springer and Mike Trivino went back (skip a batter) to back (skip a batter) to back. Down but not out, the boys would launch a furious comeback in the 6th inning plating 8 runs on singles and walks to take the game to the 7th but time was an issue in this one as they were unable to rally again for the victory. The least wonderful player was Andy Springer for no other reason than being THAT GUY who hit a homer over the limit at Hatfield for an out!

Game 3: Dark Horse v Wire 2 Wire

The Dark Horse squad put on a clinic in the top of the first as they hammer home 6 runs including a Nick Mariana 3 run bomb. The curse of Hatfield caught up to them though most of the rest of the game as they are only able to muster 2 in the 4th on a Paul Ferruzzi double and 2 more in the 7th on doubles from Jim Moffitt and Jim Walker, with a crap ton of flyouts in between. The slowest horse was Andy Santangelo, who, if we are abiding by softball unwritten laws, owes two cases of beer next week.

The Podcasters (check them out weekly on youtube and facebook live for sports hot takes, gambling plays, and a sprinkle of SBA drama) hammered home 4 in the 1st on singles and a Tom Signore homer. They would do one better in the 2nd as singles once again were the weapon of choice plating 5. Signore said sayonara again in the 3rd as he cranked another homer to spark a five run inning. The only thing better than two dingers is an unselfish team that allows you to hit 3, as once again Tom “the bomb” Signore smacked a 3 run homer in the 5th. A few singles would also plate two in the 6th to cap their scoring for the day. The lowest hanging wire was Tom Signore in this one as he was incredibly selfish, using all the homers, and not allowing Justin Glennon to enjoy his.. Be a team guy Tom!

Game 4: Dark Horse v Docs

Dark Horse bounced back in game two of their double dip as Nick Mariani once again cranked a homer in the first plating two. A bat around in the 3rd would do the boys good as Paul Ferruzzi and Ryan Schock both smoked the yellow ball over the fence. They would add to their total in the 5th as Paul Harding doubled in two runs and scored. Singles and a Jordan Moffitt two-bagger would also count runs for Dark Horse in the 6th and 7th innings. The slowest horse in game 2 was Bret Berg who knocked not 1 but 2 (!) balls over the fence on back to back at bats that didn't count for anything but outs.

Docs had themselves a day as Dylan Brooks smoked a 3 run homer in the bottom of the first, propelling the hitting engine to five big runs. Mr. Brooks would add another to the tally in the 3rd as he goes solo and bat flipped. Three more runs would cross in the 4th as Mr. Brooks kept this one in the yard and ONLY doubled. Back to back two-baggers from Paul Elliot and Matt Frontheiser paced a high scoring 6th inning which saw 4 runs scored to take a late lead. They unfortunately would not be able to get anything going in the 7th though and this one would end in a tie. The guy kicked out of the Pub first this week was Devon Frey who tried to hit Hatfield homers every at bat and ended up not getting any over the lofty fences of Hatfield.
