B North 6/5

Post by Jmill1734 »

As the spring heats up, so do the bats of B-North. In a division this talented you need at least 15 runs to win on a given day, which is a testament to both the teams and all of you players.

B North 6/5
Bulldogs 19 - One Hit Wonders 12
Dark Horse 7 - Swingers 5
Ball Busters 20 - Wire2Wire 15
Ball Busters 14 - Doc's Irish Pub 1

Game 1: One Hit Wonders v Bulldogs

After struggling to get anything going in the first, the One Hit Wonders were especially wonderful in the top of the 2nd as that plate 7 runs in a bat around, highlighted by 7 singles and 3 walks. They would add another run in the 3rd as leadoff Jesse Grasso smacked a solo homer and another in the 4th as big Andy Springer also went stag to the party, with a solo homer of his own. Singles would once again be the weapon of choice in the 6th as the Wonders plate 3 more runs to cap their scoring for the day. Jason Hammer was the most wonderful Wonder as he went 4 for 4 with 4 singles and a run scored.

The Bulldogs also would get their offense started in the 2nd inning as Mike Milhian smoked an RBI double and scored. They would add another run in the 3rd as John Hogan lasered a triple and scored. 3 straight singles would push another across in the 4th and back to back doubles from the saintly Peter and Paul helped score two. In the bottom of the 6th the Bulldogs went to the dog park, got off the leash and went crazy to the tune of 13 runs, highlighted by doubles from Mike Suda, Peter Burns, and CC Witt and a 2-run homer as Paul Burtis put a hurtis on the ball. The dawgs of the day were the top 5 hitters in the lineup as they combined for 16 hits and 12 runs, which included 5 doubles, a triple and a homer.

Game 2: Dark Horse v Swingers

The Swingers got their scoring started in the 3rd inning as singles helped plate 2 runs. Singles would once again be the weapon of choice in the 4th inning as the middle of the order was able to single home another run. Neon Dion Greene smoked the biggest hit of the day for the Swingers in the 7th as he crushed a 2 RBI triple to cap their scoring for the day. The loser (or winner depending on your outlook) in this one is everyone's liver as multiple players in the lineup owe strikeout beers.

Dark Horse also didn’t get scoring going until the 3rd inning when they would plate 2 on 4 singles and a walk. They would add another in the 4th to knot the score as Bill Jones singled and took a runner who scored. They would use the same method to plate another run in the 5th inning. In the 6th, Paully bats would come through with a huge 3 run homer to put the horses on top for good. Paully “bats” Ferruzzi was the prized steed in this stable as he went 4 for 4 with a homer.

* Newsworthy side note: Paul Ferruzzi is chasing the SBA batting average record in his last game this season against Wire2Wire. If he can end the game, recording at least 1 at bat and without recording an out, he will have the best statistical hitting season in SBA history! Good luck Paul!

Game 3: Ball Busters v Wire 2 Wire

The ball busters busted balls in the top of the first using 3 singles to plate 2 runs. They would add two more in the 2nd as Jay Stein doubled in two. A cornucopia of singles and a homer from Eric Cohen sparked a 5 run outburst for the Busters in the 3rd. Don’t sleep on Justin Knapp either as he went solo dolo in the 4th to plate another run. Staying hot in the 5th inning, the Ball Busters batted around, pushing across a whopping 8 runs, highlighted by doubles from Eric Cohen and Tyler Cohen. Capping their scoring for the day, was an RBI triple from leadoff Zach Lyol in the 6th. As there were many guys who busted the ball in the game, the guy who busted it best was Neil Herbert. Neil had to take a runner but still went 4 for 4 proving that you can win the mental game without the physical ability.

The podcasters were plagued by an auto all day as it pretty much ended 4 innings for them. In the 1st they were able to plate 4 on walks and a double from Jacob McDevitt. They would plate 4 more in the 2nd on back to back jacks from McDevitt and Tom “the bomb” Signore. A double and dong attack from McDevitt and Signore would plate 2 more runs for the Podcasters in the 3rd. After a quiet 4th inning, they would once again get the scoring machine going in the 5th inning, plating 5 more runs on walks and an Alex Metz two RBI double. The hitter who hit Wire 2 Wire in this once was Jim Gorman who went 1 for 1 but reached base via walk 3 times and scored two runs.

Game 4: Ball Busters v Docs Irish Pub

The Ball Busters continued to bust balls as they plated a run in the first inning on back to back doubles from Jay Stein and Andrew Parker. They would use the art of the well placed single to score 4 more runs in the 2nd and the excitement of the double to plate 5 in the 3rd as Ken Stein, Andrew Frandangeli, and Tyler Cohen would all smack two baggers. The single would once again be the weapon of choice and the Busters add 4 runs over the 4th and 5th innings going station to station to cap their scoring for the day. Ken Stein had a monster game for the Busters going 4 for 4 with a double and 4 RBI.

Docs hopefully has a beer sponsorship and they probably needed a few after this one. They were only able to get the offense going in the 4th inning as Paul Elliot, Matt Fronheiser, Clay Snyder and Ryan Black would all singles to push across a run. Fronheiser deserves a few budweisers from the boys of Docs as he went 3 for 3 with a run scored to pace the Pub goers.

As we gear up for the playoffs, I cannot wait to see how next week shakes out. I am planning on doing a playoff preview as well as the writeup next week so keep an eye out for that!
