Philly’s Phinest vs. Palz Tap House

Philly’s Phinest came into this one trying to slow down what has been the hottest B East property over the last four games in Palz Tap House. They get off to a quick start taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st off of a Billy Aichroth 2 RBI triple. Palz responds with a 7-spot in the bottom of the inning. A whopping seven walks, two doubles, and one single did the damage. Phinest’s offense disappeared in innings 2, 3, and 4, while Palz put up another 6 to make it 13-2 going into the top of the 5th. Two doubles by Casey Long stood out in the 2nd and 4th. Not wanting to go down quietly, Phinest put up 3 in the 5th, with a Mike Rocks Jr. 3-run homer being the catalyst. The bats go quiet for Palz in the bottom of the 5th and 6th, and Phinest drops a 7-spot of their own in the top of the 6th. Eight singles, and a solo HR by Ed Rocks helped bring Phinest back within 1 run. Heading into the 7th, Phinest ties it up at 13 apiece, scoring on a fielder’s choice. Going into the bottom of the inning Palz loads the bases with two singles and a walk, before Pete Herbet hits a walk-off single to win the game. Palz advance to the semifinals 14-13.

Player of the Game: Honorable mention to Jordan Cohen and Casey Long of Palz, who each went 4-4 with two doubles apiece, but this PotG goes to Mike Rocks Jr. in a losing effort. “Junior” helped kickstart the comeback for Phinest, going 4-4 on the day with a three-run HR, 5 total RBI, and 3 Rs.

Yankee Clippers vs. Dave and Confused

One of SBA’s longest standing rivalries carried into the postseason, as Dave and Confused look to avenge an early season 22-6 loss from the Yankee Clippers. The Clippers put 2 runs up in the 1st inning with Pat “The Bat” Brennan and Tom “All I Do Is” Finn scoring off of fielder’s choices. Dave and Confused went full on small ball, (chasing two pitchers off the mound in the process), scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the inning. DC took 8 walks, and got a 2-RBI triple from “Mean” Mark McKinney to take a 7-2 lead. The Clippers added 3 more in the top of the 2nd, with the damage coming from doubles by Glen Hipple and Pat ‘the Bat’. DC gets blanked in the bottom of the 2nd, and return the favor in the top of the 3rd. A solo shot from Kyle Pederzani extends DCs lead to 3 in the bottom of the inning. Five singles, a Lonnie “Amish” Snyder double, and a Zack Downs triple plate 4 for the Clippers and give them a 9-8 lead. DC scores 2 to go back up 10-9 with walks, errors, and a two RBI single by “Mean” Mark paving the way. Unfortunately for the Clippers, the two bats they brought stopped hitting well as they went scoreless in the 5th and 6th. DC dropped 8 more insurance runs in the last two innings. 5 singles, three doubles, a walk, and an error led to the scoring for DC. Time runs out before they can start the 7th, and Dave and Confused get their revenge with an 18-9 beatdown.

Player of the Game: “Mean” Mark McKinney. McKinney crushed it for Dave and Confused, going 3-4 with two singles, a triple, 6 RBIs, and 3 Rs in the victory.

Palz Tap House vs. Sunday Scaries

Palz looked to keep their run going, as Sunday Scaries looked to go into the championship without a loss on their resume. Palz plate 2 quick runs off of a Pete Herbert RBI single and Kyle Herbert fielder’s choice in the top of the 1st. Scaries responds with a lead-off home run by Colin Kelly, which is all they could muster. Both teams fail to score a run in the 2nd. Palz puts up 4 in the top of the 3rd, with back-to-back-to-back-to-back singles, a Chris Croakham double, and another Pete Herbert RBI single leading the way. Scaries add 2 of their own with doubles by Adam “All Man” Allman and Colin Kelly. Palz goes quiet in the top of the 4th, and Scaries manages to tie the game at 6 after plating 3 more runs courtesy of three singles and an RBI double from Kris “Don’t Call Me Chris” Karaba. Palz knocks in 1 run via three singles to take a 7-6 lead going into the bottom of the 5th, and Scaries blanks the bottom half of the inning. They return the favor to Palz in the top of the 6th, and tie it up at the bottom of the inning thanks to an RBI single from Josh “El Capitan” Persing. Palz decides to keep their Cinderella run alive, and score 4 more in the top of the 7th to take an 11-7 lead. Three walks and three singles, including a two RBI single by Jordan Cohen led the way for Palz. With their season on the line, Scaries can only muster a walk and single in between three flyouts, and fail to produce a run. The slipper still fits as Palz Tap House shocks the world, taking down Sunday Scaries by a final of 11-7.

Player of the Game: The top two and bottom two of Palz order were huge for them in the victory. Jordan Cohen, Casey Long, Nick Hildebrand, and Andrew Heller combined to go 10-12, all singles, 5 RBI, 8 Rs and two BBs.

Dave and Confused vs. Purple Cobras

Dave and Confused came in looking for their first win against Purple Cobras, after going 0-2 in the regular season. Unfortunately, they went scoreless in the 1st, while the Cobras came out swinging, plating 8 in the bottom of the inning. Three walks, seven singles, and a double by Mike Corrigan had the Purple Cobras firing on all cylinders. Neither squad could muster a run in the 2nd inning, and the Cobras plated 2 more after two singles and an error in the bottom of the 3rd. The 4th inning was a repeat of the 2nd for both teams, as neither would score. Dave and Confused’s offense woke up in the 5th however, scoring 3 runs off of three singles, and RBI doubles by “Grizzled” Dave Graves and Jack McKinney. Unfortunately, for them, the bottom of the 5th was a home run parade, as Cody “Road” Runner, Pete Corrigan, and Corey Lawra all drilled bombs en route to an 8 run 5th inning. This one ended up being an 18-3 run rule victory for Purple Cobras.

Player of the Game: Three-way tie between Cody “Road” Runner, Pete Corrigan, and Corey Lawra. The trio combined to go 9-11 with 6 singles, 3 HRs, 7 RBI and 7 Rs.

Palz Tap House will be taking on Purple Cobras in the championship. Will the Cobras complete their domination of the B East by defeating the only team to serve them a loss, or will Palz prove that the slipper still fits and knock off the Cobras? Find out next week!
