Philly’s Phinest vs. Dave and Confused

It was a wet one in this game, as these two veteran laden teams toughed it out in the mud and rain before the remaining Sunday games were canceled. Playing with 8, Phinest get a leadoff HR from Mike Rocks Jr. to start the season off with a bang. Unfortunately for them, three flyouts in a row ended the inning. Dave and Confused responded in the bottom of the 1st with 2 runs of their own, with three walks and RBI singles from John Hickman and Will Moyer bringing in the runs. Phinest went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 2nd, and DC responded by opening the literal and metaphorical floodgates, piling up a whopping 15 runs as the team batted around twice. Highlights include multi hit efforts from Bryon McMackin, Dave Graves, John Hickman, Will Moyer, and John Graves. Jeff Johnson and Kevin Noone also took walks to go along with back-to-back doubles. Phinest get 1 back in the top of the 3rd inning off of a Dave Shannon sac fly, while DC grabs another 3 in the bottom of the 3rd to extend their lead to 20-2. Four singles, two doubles, and a two-run sac fly from Kevin Noone brought in the runs. Neither team would plate a run in the 4th, and needing 3 to extend the game, Phinest decided to go towel off and watch the Eagles-Lions kickoff at the bar instead. Dave and Confused wins in a wet and wild one, 20-2 final.

Player of the Game: Honorable mention to Will Moyer, but this week goes to Jeff Johnson, Amber Inn. Johnson reached base in all 5 appearances, drawing two walks, and going 3-3 with a single and two doubles. He scored 4 Rs and had an RBI.

CSA vs. Yankee Clippers

CSA started out hot in this one, scoring 3 runs on 2 outs in the 1st inning via three singles, one double from Super Bowl XV MVP, Jim Plunkett, and a walk. Yankee Clippers responded with a 4 spot of their own in the bottom of the inning, with two singles, doubles by Terry Heller and Will Jensen, and a 3 run bomb by Nick Wasekanes getting their offense going. CSA plates another 3 in the top of the 2nd, getting two singles, a double from Dave Herbert, and a triple from Bill Brancato, all on 2 outs. Clippers tie it up in the bottom of the inning, scoring 2 off of a walk, an error, and two singles. CSA blows up in a big way over the next two innings, scoring a dozen runs. Six singles, five doubles, and a triple and solo HR from Dave Herbert extended CSA’s lead to 18-6. Across the same two innings the Yankee Clippers managed a big fat goose egg, with only a Lonnie Snyder single to show for it. In the top of the 5th, CSA was held to a mere 2 runs, off of four singles. YC scores 4 in the bottom of the 5th, attempting to show signs of life. A single, double, two RBI triple from Nick Wasekanes, and two errors sparked the offense. CSA made sure to take the Clippers off life support however, as they pulled the plug on the comeback, by scoring another 9 runs in the top of the 6th inning. Seven singles, a double, a triple by Mark Cooper, and a solo HR by Gabe Morales did the damage for CSA. Needing 5 runs to keep the blowout going, the Clippers wisely scored 2 more runs off 3 singles, then headed to the parking lot. CSA makes the Clippers bleed their own blood, and bludgeon them in a 29-12 victory.

Player of the Game: It should be the entire offense for CSA, especially since they scored an SBA record 11 runs on 2 outs across the victory. Instead, I’m giving props to Dave Herbert. Herbert went 5-5 at the plate, hitting for the cycle with two singles, a double, triple, solo HR, and even drew a walk for good measure. He scored 5 Rs and contributed 2 RBIs for the cause as well.

Dirt Stars vs. CSA

Dirt Stars offense is quiet in the first 2 innings, unable to muster a run. CSA scores 8 across the first 2 innings, with eight singles, two doubles, and a 2 RBI triple from CJ Steiner propelling the offense. Dirt Stars score 1 in the top of the 3rd off of three singles, and CSA responds with 2 more of their own via two singles, a walk, and two errors. The bats wake up in a big way for Dirt Stars, as they plate 7 runs in the top of the 4th off of five singles, a double, an error, and a 3 run HR by Nick ‘Private’ Ryan. CSA gets 3 back to extend the lead to 5, off of three singles, a walk, and an error. Singles score another run for Dirt Stars in the top of the 5th. CSA scores another 5 off of four singles, a walk, and two HRs (a solo shot by Bill Brancato and a 3-run blast by Gabe Morales). Dirt Stars offense goes quiet again in the 6th and the 7th, and CDA get 1 more run in the bottom of the 6th via another Bill Brancato solo HR. CSA cruises to a win, 19-9 final.

Player of the Game: Bill Brancato, CSA. Brancato went 3-5 in the victory, contributing a single and two solo HRs. He also scored 3 Rs and had 2 RBIs.

Dirt Stars vs. Philly’s Phinest

Dirt Stars score 1 in the top of the 1st inning off of back-to-back singles and a fielders’ choice. Phinest score 1 in the bottom off of two singles, including an RBI knock from Ray ‘Go Kick’ Rocks. Dirt Stars cannot muster a run between innings 2-7, while Phinest has another 11 in them across the same time frame. Eight singles, five walks, three doubles, and two triples were all Phinest needed in this one, as they win 12-1.

Player of the Game: Mike Rocks Jr, Philly’s Phinest. Junior turned out in the win, going 4-4 from the leadoff spot with two singles, two doubles, 3 Rs, and 3 RBIs.

Palz Tap House vs. Dave and Confused

Defending champs Palz Tap House don’t believe in championship hangovers, as they drop a 6 spot in the top of the 1st inning. Six singles, including a 2 RBI knock by Brett Broderick, and a pair of walks kick started the offense early. Dave and Confused followed that up with a scoreless bottom of the 1st. Palz plates another 3 in the top of the 2nd, off of two singles and doubles from Pete Herbert and Brian Graham. DC goes down scoreless again in the bottom of the inning, but returns the favor in the top of the 3rd, sitting Palz down 1-2-3. In the bottom of the 3rd, DC’s offense wakes up, scoring 3 runs off of back-to-back doubles from Jake Pederzani and Craig Clemente, and a two RBI triple from Dave Graves. Palz add 2 in the top of the 4th to extend their lead to 11-3, with two singles, a double from Louie Knoebel, and a sac fly knocking in the runs. DC responds plating 1 off of three singles in the bottom of the 4th. Palz leaves Casey Long stranded after a triple, and cannot score a run in the top of the 5th. DC gets one back from a John Graves double followed by a Kyle Pederzani RBI single. Neither team can score a run in the 6th inning, as Palz goes into the 7th nursing an 11-5 lead. They manage to plate 3 more off of three singles, a Louie Knoebel double, and a 2 run HR from Alex Freeman. Needing 9 to tie, all DC can muster is three more runs off of four singles and another Craig Clemente double. Palz win this one by a final of 14-8.

Player(s) of the Game: Ryan Nakonieczny and Louie Knoebel, Palz. Ryan ‘Nak’ and Louie ‘K’ combined to go 9-10 on the day with seven singles, two doubles, 5 Rs, and 5 RBI between the pair.

Wild Fire vs. Dave and Confused

It was a tale of two halves between these squads, as Wild Fire sputtered to 1 run across their first two innings, while Dave and Confused plated 12 across the same frames. Nine singles, doubles by Byron McMackin and Will Moyer, and a 2 RBI triple by John Graves pushed DC out to a scalding hot start. But like the Little Engine That Could (Score), Wild Fire kept chipping away, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 3rd inning via four singles. DC went scoreless in the bottom of the inning. Wild Fire score another run in the top of the 4th, off of doubles from Paul Cichonski and Erik Simonait. DC leaves two men on and goes scoreless in the bottom of the 4th. Wild Fire score 5 in the top of the 5th inning to cut the lead down to 2. Four singles and three doubles (courtesy of Hector Torres, Dave Archer, and Paul Cichonski) get that train rolling down the tracks. DC goes down 1-2-3 in the 5th. Wild Fire thinks they can in the top of the 6th, and they do, scoring another 5 runs to erase the 11-run deficit. Three singles, a double from Dave Archer, a triple from Mark Maria, and a three run BOMBSKI from Anthony Amendolia turned this Wild Fire train into an absolute WAGON. Now with their backs against the wall, DC needs 3 runs to keep playing and get a leadoff single from Dave Graves and a walk from Kevin Noone to get two men on. But a fielders’ choice and a double play end the game. Wild Fire fan the flames, and come back to win 15-12.

Player of the Game: Anthony Amendolia, Wild Fire. The Italian Stallion went 4-4 in the win with three singles, the go ahead 3 run HR, 2 Rs and 4 RBI.
