Dave and Confused vs. Yankee Clippers

Dave and Confused took this win by forfeit, as the Yankee Clippers manager was loaded in the Outer Banks for the weekend, and the rest of the team decided to take off in suit. DC with a 7-0 win.



Dirt Stars vs. Wild Fire

Dirt Stars get off to a hot start against Wild Fire, plating 7 runs in the top of the 1st. Eight singles, and a two run HR by John Boyle did the damage. Wild Fire get 1 off of a sac fly in the bottom of the inning. Dirt Stars leave two stranded en route to a goose egg 2nd inning, and Wild Fire make them pay, dropping a 10 spot in the bottom. Six singles, three errors, doubles by Chris Amendolia and manager Tom Orlando, and a triple by Paul Chiconski fanned the flames of Wild Fire’s offense, putting them up 11-7 after 2. Dirt Stars bats went quiet in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings, going down 1-2-3 in the 3rd and 4th, and leaving Dan Owens stranded after a leadoff double to start the 5th. Wild Fire, to their credit, added another 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd before quiet 4th and 5th innings of their own. Their 5 runs came via four singles, two errors, and a Chris Amendolia triple. Down 16-7 going into the top of the 6th, Dirt Stars score 3 off of three singles, an error, a walk, and a double from Brandon Gotty. Dirt couldn’t beat Fire in this one, as Wild Fire win by a 16-10 final.

Player of the Game: Chris Amendolia, Wild Fire. Amendolia was the straw that stirred the drink for Wild Fire, going 3-4, with a single, double, triple, a walk, 6 RBIs and 2 Rs.



Dirt Stars vs. Palz Tap House

Dirt Stars score 1 in the top of the 1st, via a sac fly by Dan Owens. Palz fires back with 3 of their own, off of three singles, a double by Alex Freeman, and a sac fly. Neither team can score a run in the 2nd inning. Dirt Stars go down 1-2-3 to start the top of the 3rd, and Palz responds by scoring 2 runs off of three singles and a sac fly. Both teams woke up offensively in the 3rd inning, as Dirt Stars scores 5 runs in the top. Five singles, a two-run triple by Dez Kanan, and an unknown AB that produced a run by Myles Davis (help me out here scorekeepers) kickstarted Dirt Stars offense. Palz said anything you can do, we can do better, as they respond with a 9-run inning of their own in the bottom of the 4th. Seven singles, doubles by Casey Long and Tom Jacob, and an error paved the way to a crooked number and a 14-6 lead for Palz. Dirt Stars respond by scoring another 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning, courtesy of three singles, an error, and an RBI double from Nick Caruso. Palz matches them at the bottom of the inning, scoring 3 of their own off of a single, walk, sac fly, a Casey Long RBI double, and an RBI triple by Louie Knoebel. Dirt Stars can’t plate a run in the top of the 6th, and Palz tack on another 4 insurance runs in the bottom of the inning. Two errors, a single, a double by Louie Knoebel, and a 3 run HR by Tom Jacob helped extend the lead. Dirt Stars got two more in the top of the 7th via two singles and back-to-back doubles by Nick Caruso and Aiden Fierolt, but it wasn’t enough. Palz cruise to a 21-11 victory.

Player of the Game: Tom Jacob, Palz Tap House. Jacob went 3-4 on the day with a single, double, HR, 3 RBI and Rs.



Palz Tap House vs. CSA

Both teams were quiet in the first two innings of this one, with Palz scoring the lone run in the top of the 2nd thanks to an RBI double from Ryan Nakonieczny. Palz puts up a crooked number in the top of the 3rd to blow this game wide open, plating 7. Four singles, a 2 RBI double by Casey Long, and a 3 run HR by Tom Jacob. CSA finally breaks through in the bottom of the 3rd, plating one off of a solo dinger by Gabe Morales. Palz can’t score anything in the top of the 4th, and CSA cuts the lead to 3 after scoring another 4 runs. Four singles and triples by Bill Brancato’s flowing mullet and Mark Cooper did the damage. Palz responds by dropping a half dozen in the top of the 5th to extend their lead back to 9. Three singles, an error, sac fly, walk, double by Tom Jacob, and 2 RBI triple by Justin Gutierrez helped widen the gap. CSA’s 1-2-3 hitters went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 5th. CSA gets their revenge in the top of the 6th by neutralizing Palz’ top four hitters, keeping them scoreless. CSA smacks three singles in the bottom of the inning, en route to 1 run via a Carmen Brancato RBI single. Palz drops 2 more runs in the top of the 7th via two singles and an error. Needing 10 to send this game into extras, CSA can only muster 1 more run as Super Bowl MVP Jim Plunkett plunks an RBI single. That’s all she wrote for this one, as Palz win by a score of 16-7.

Player of the Game: Tom Jacob, Palz Tap House. Jacob takes home PotG twice this week, finishing this game 2-4 with a double, home run, 3 RBIs and 2 Rs.



Philly’s Phinest vs. CSA

Philly’s Phinest score 1 in the top of the 1st, via three singles, including an RBI knock by Rob Adams. CSA answers with 2 in the bottom of the 1st, courtesy of an RBI triple from Bill Brancato and an RBI single from Jim “Stop Calling Me Super Bowl MVP” Plunkett. Phinest get 1 back in the top of the 2nd off of two singles, and CSA goes scoreless in the bottom of the inning. Three singles and a Dave Shannon double net 2 more for Phinest in the top of the 3rd inning, while CSA leaves two men on while producing zero runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Neither team can produce more than 1 run between the 4th and the 5th innings, with Rob Adams hitting an RBI double for Phinest and Carmen Brancato hitting a sac fly for CSA. In the top of the 6th, however, Phinest score two more off of two singles, a sac fly, and an RBI double from Mike Rocks Jr. CSA plates 5 in the bottom of the inning and clears a 4-run deficit to take an 8-7 lead. Three singles, two walks, a two RBI double by SB MVP Jim Plunkett, and a 3 run bombski by Jarrett Kerns ignited the offense. In the top of the 7th, Phinest retake the lead, scoring 3 runs off of five singles, including RBI knocks from Sean Dougherty, Ray ‘Go Kick’ Rocks, and a sac fly from Dominic ‘Also Kicks’ Rocks. Needing 2 to tie and 3 to win, Matt Zysk gets on board with a leadoff single, but a flyout, fielder’s choice, and flyout end the comeback. Philly’s Phinest down CSA 10-8.

Player of the Game: Jim Plunkett, CSA. Like his namesake, Plunkett was the best player on the field...err diamond... in this one. Plunkett went 4-4 with three singles, a double, and 3 RBIs.
