CSA vs. Wild Fire

A rare Saturday morning battle between CSA and Wild Fire to kickoff week 5 of the fall softball season. Dave Herbert smacks a leadoff triple for CSA to start off, and gets knocked in by a Curt ‘the Hurt’ Hensman single. Hensman himself gets knocked in on a Mark Cooper double to get CSA 2 runs in the top of the 1st. Wild Fire one up them in the bottom of the inning, scoring 3 off of a Hector Torres leadoff double, a Jim Catanzaro RBI single, an Anthony Amendolia RBI double (thrown out trying to go for 3B), and a Dave Archer solo HR did the damage. A George Dart solo HR gets CSA 1 in the top of the 2nd, and Wild Fire go down 1-2-3 in the bottom. CSA gets 3 runs in the top of the 3rd via a Mark Cooper double, a walk, and RBI singles from Carmen Brancato, Dave Herbert, and Curt ‘the Hurt’ Hensman. An RBI double from Eric Simonait gets Wild Fire their only run in the bottom of the inning, and neither team can muster a run in the 4th inning. Two singles and two walks net CSA 2 more runs in the top of the 5th, while Wild Fire goes down in order again in the bottom of the inning. Both teams go scoreless in the 6th inning, with CSA holding an 8-4 lead into the 7th. CSA adds some insurance runs in the final frame, plating 5 runs off of two singles, two walks, RBI doubles by Dave Herbert and Raider great Jim Plunkett, and a 3-run HR from ‘Marky’ Mark Cooper. Down 9, Wild Fire go down without scoring another run. CSA throws some water on Wild Fire, and wins 13-4.

Player of the Game: ‘Marky’ Mark Cooper, CSA. It was good vibrations for Marky Mark in the win, as he went 3-5 with two doubles, a HR, 2 Rs, and 4 RBIs in the win.

Dave and Confused vs. Palz Tap House

Both teams came into this game with only 7 rostered players and 2 subs, and made a gentleman’s agreement not to take the automatic out. DC couldn’t capitalize on a Carl Ervin double in the 1st, and sat down with a 0 on the scoreboard. Palz gets a solo HR from Alex ‘Morgan’ Freeman to plate 1 in the bottom frame. Both teams score 1 in the 2nd inning, as DC gets a leadoff double from Will Moyer, and an RBI single from Mike Familo, while Palz gets theirs off of a Brian Graham sac fly. Both offenses wake up in the 3rd inning, as DC plates 5 runs. Three singles, a walk, doubles by Will Moyer and Mike Familo, and a grand slam from ‘Mean’ Marc McKinney did the damage. Palz respond with 4 of their own to keep things tied, with two singles including a 2 RBI knock from Brian Graham, and back-to-back-to-back doubles from Jordan Cohen, Casey Long, and Alex Freeman. Both teams score 1 run in the 4th, with DC scoring on a Jake Pederzani fielder’s choice, and Jordan Cohen hitting a solo bomb for Palz. Neither squad can plate a run in the 5th, leaving this game tied at 7. DC goes scoreless in the top of the 6th, and Palz scores 3 in the bottom of the inning. A pair of singles, plus a Jordan Cohen double and an Alex ‘Morgan’ Freeman triple give Palz the 10-7 lead. Not wanting to go quiet into the good night, DC scores 3 in the top of the 7th to tie things up/ two singles, a Mike Familo triple, and a two run double from Jeff Johnson tied things up. Needing a run to walk off, Palz get a leadoff triple from Brian Graham, and sub Tim Reinboth plays hero with a walk off single. Palz walks it off against DC, 11-10 final.

Player of the Game: Honorable mention to DC sub Mike Familo, who went 4-4 with a single, two doubles, and a triple, but PotG goes to Alex ‘Morgan’ Freeman, Palz. Freeman went 4-4 with two doubles, a triple, and a solo HR. He knocked in 3 RBI and scored 2 Rs in the win.





Yankee Clippers vs. Palz Tap House

It was a battle between the winless Yankee Clippers against the undefeated summer champ Palz Tap House. Yankee Clippers got off to a quick start, plating 3 off of a walk, single, then three run HR by Nick ‘Socks’ Wasekanes. Palz responds with 3 of their own, with two singles, a double, and two sac flies tying it up after the 1st. Clippers get 1 off via an RBI single from Nick Todd, who ended an 0-for-14 drought dating back to the spring season. Palz went down 1-2-3 including the auto out in the bottom of the 2nd. Clippers get 1 more in the top of the 3rd off of a solo HR from Nick ‘Socks’ Wasekanes. Palz return fire with a solo bomb of their own from Alex ‘Morgan’ Freeman. In the top of the 4th, the Clippers try to blow this game open, scoring 4 runs off of four singles, including a 2 RBI single from Nick ‘Socks’ Wasekanes, and an RBI fielder’s choice from Connor ‘I Played D3 Baseball’ Laigaie. Staring down a 5 run deficit, Palz get 2 runs back off of a Justin Guitierrez triple and an RBI single from Brian Graham. In the top of the 5th, the Clippers strand two and can’t muster a run. Palz plates 3 in the bottom to tie it up at 9, with a Ryan Nakonieczny triple knocking in 2, and a Nick Hildebrand single scoring 1. Clippers score 2 more in the top of the 6th off of a Kai ‘Downtowner’ Browner single. Palz strand 2 of their own in the bottom of the 6th, and fail to plate a run. Holding 2, the Clippers opt to not add any insurance runs, and go down 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th. A leadoff single by Ryan Nakonieczny crosses the plate via a sac fly, but that’s all Palz can muster, as the Yankee Clippers score their first win and knock off undefeated Palz, 11-10 final.

Player of the Game: Nick ‘Socks’ Wasekanes, Yankee Clippers. Wase had a huge day at the plate, going 3-3 with a single, two HRs, a walk, 6 RBIs and 3 Rs.





Philly’s Phinest vs. Yankee Clippers

Quiet innings for both teams through the first 3 innings, as Philly’s Phinest plates 1 off of a Ray ‘Go Kick’ Rocks RBI single in the 3rd, and the Yankee Clippers score 3 off of a sac fly, error, and RBI single from James Jones. In the top of the 4th, Philly’s Phinest takes a 1 run lead, scoring 3 off of a 3-run HR by Mike Rocks Jr. The Clippers offense woke up in the bottom of the inning, scoring 5 runs off of three singles, two doubles, two sac flies, and back-to-back HRs from Kai ‘Downtowner’ Browner, and slap hitter Mike O’Connor, who refused to take a piss test for steroids after the game’s conclusion. Phinest plates one off of a solo HR by Rob ‘Sam’ Adams, in the top of the 5th. The Clippers respond with a Will ‘Where’s My Beer?’ Jensen 3 run-HR. In the top of the 6th, Phinest goes down scoreless, and the Clippers respond with a 6 spot in the bottom of the inning. Two singles, a double, a walk, sac fly, and three run HR by Kai ‘Downtowner’ Browner, helped extend the lead to 17-5. Needing 13 to keep playing, Philly’s Phinest explodes for an 8 run top of the 7th. Eight singles, including a 2 RBI single from Dave Shannon, and a 3 RBI single from Rob ‘Sam’ Adams, got Phinest close, but the Clippers survive a scare, with a 17-13 final.

Player of the Game: Kai ‘Downtowner’ Browner, Yankee Clippers. Honorable mention to Junior on Philly’s Phinest, who went 4-4 with a single, two doubles, and a 3 run HR, but Browner raked for the Yankee Clippers in the win, going 4-5 with two singles, two HRs, 5 RBIs and 3 Rs.



CSA vs. Philly’s Phinest

CSA gets 1 in the top of the 1st off of a solo dinger by Bill ‘the Thrill’ Brancato. Philly’s Phinest responds with two of their own in the bottom of the 1st, with three singles and a leadoff double by Dominic Rocks netting 2 runs. CSA left the bases loaded in the top of the 2nd, and Phinest responds by plating 5 runs while batting around. Five singles, a Ray ‘Go Kick’ Rocks RBI double, and a Dominic Rocks RBI triple did the damage. CSA scores one more off of another Bill ‘the Thrill’ Brancato solo HR in the top of the 3rd, while Phinest leaves two on as they get shutout in the bottom of the inning. They return the favor in the top of the 4th, holding CSA to another goose egg, while score 1 run of their own via a Ray Rocks single to extend their lead to 8-2. The rest of CSA’s bats wake up in the top of the 5th, as they plate 4 runs off of a single, double, Geroge Dart RBI triple, and 3 run HR by Bill ‘the Thrill’ Brancato, to cut the lead to 2. Phinest go down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 5th, stifling their momentum. CSA makes them pay with another 4-run inning in the top of the 6th. Four singles, a double, and a two RBI triple by Curt Hensman propelled the offense. Phinest go down 1-2-3 on flyouts in the bottom of the 6th. Holding 2 and needing some insurance runs, CSA adds another 10 runs to double their total. Eight singles, a double, and a Matt Zysk RBI triple added up to get CSA a 20-burger on the day. Down 12, Phinest gets two men on, but flyout to end the game. CSA wins running away 20-8 final.

Player of the Game: Bill ‘the Thrill’ Brancato, CSA. Bill went 3-3 on the day with three HRs, 3 Rs, 5 RBIs, and two intentional walks in the win.



Wild Fire vs. Dirt Stars

Wild Fire leave two on in the top of the 1st and cannot muster a run. Dirt Stars plate two off of our singles, including RBI knocks from John Boyle and Gary Brooks. Wild Fire load the bases in the top of the 2nd, and fail to produce a run. Dirt Stars score 6 off of four singles, a walk, and a three run HR by Aiden Fiorelli. Wild Fire get on the board in the top of the 3rd, scoring 2 runs off of two walks, two singles, and a double from Christ Amendia. Dirt Stars get one back, courtesy of a Del Kanan triple, followed by a Nick Caruso RBI single. Wild Fire get 2 more in the top of the 4th, via two singles, a walk, a sac fly, and a Jim Catanzaro double. Dirt Stars’ bats go quiet in the bottom of the inning as they fail to produce a run. Neither team can score in the 5th inning. Wild Fire stalls out in the top of the 6th as well, keeping the deficit at 5 as they head into the bottom of the 6th. Dirt Stars score 2 runs in the bottom, courtesy of the Nicks (a Nick Caruso triple and a 2 run HR from Nick Ryan). Wild Fire score 5 in the top of the 7th, with four singles, two walks, and a double from Chris Amendia. A fielder’s choice ends it however, and Dirt Stars survive, 11-9 final.

Player(s) of the Game: Nick Ryan and Nick Caruso, Dirt Stars. The Nicks helped keep the momentum in Dirt Stars win, as they combined to go 4-6 with two singles, a triple, a HR, two RBIs, and three Rs.
