From The Gutter / Week 14

Post by sixofdiamonds »

Week 14 starts the bowling post season. The Lost Boys would face Empire in the American Conference semis while Kingpin would take on 3-time champs Wu Tang in the National Conference.

The battle for the American Conference title would be a good one. Jordan Roman fires an 84-over 268 to pace Empire to a 13 point win in Game 1. The Lost Boys' Rey Jimenez kept things close with a 60-over 209, but needed a little help from his friends. His friends stepped up in Game 2 as Mike Corrigan and Diego Roman each tossed 200+ games to take the middle game rather handily. Game 3 would be a nail-biter to the wire. Mike Corrigan and Diego Roman each crossed the 200 threshold and Rey Jimenez tossed his 3rd game over average. Empire had their work cut out for them. Brandon Roman hurled a 52-over 252 and Jordan Roman followed up with a 48-over 232. The 3rd Roman, Dan, would need to hold his own which is what he did. Empire takes the National Conference title by a total of 14 pins.

In the National Conference, Kingpin would have to face 3-time champs Wu Tang with a man down. Stephen Collins and Zach Katz each bowled a few pins over in Game 1, but Wu Tang could get anything going- pretty much handing the win to Kingpin. Game 2 saw both Stephen ad Zach once again bowl a few pins over average, but Wu Tang could not get in gear- tossing 3 games under average. At that point it was all over but the shouting.

Empire will now take on Kingpin for the 2023-24 off-season bowling title. The Lost Boys will face Wu Tang in the consolation match.

Prize money is based on 16 teams and total attendance throughout the bowling season. While weekly attendance wasn't bad, it wasn't all that great either. The prize money breakdown for this year is as follow:

1st Place: $400.00
2nd Place: $250.00
3rd Place: $150.00
4th Place: $100.00

For reasons beyond my control, prize money will not be available immediately following the Finals. All prize money will be available for pickup at the Quarry snack bar at any point after Opening Day on March 25th (see Nancy Razzi, scorekeeper).
