B East Week 1 4/7

Sunday Men’s B East kicked off week 1 of the Fall season on April 7th
Game 1:
Web Gems V Stiff Sox

Web Gems starts the season off with back to back strikeouts and a flyout to left field. Stiff Sox gets one runner on with a single from Andrew Bertolino, but the first inning of the year ends with little action as both teams look to break off the rust. Web Gems gets a run across when Mike Touey scores on a George Webb single in the top of the second. Stiff Sox ties it up in the bottom of the third with a sac fly from Tyler Fornwalt. Web Gems scores two in the top of the fourth off back to back doubles from Ryan Delong and Mike Touey and then Touey is knocked in by an Eric Wrenn RBI sac fly. Web Gems ties it up in the fourth with an RBI double from Nick Pugliesi and an RBI single from Jim Kullman and we go into the 5th tied 3-3. Stiff Sox takes the lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single from Brian Delucas and sac fly from Tommy Gallagher. Web Gems gets one back in the 6th off a sac fly from Eric Wrenn but Stiff Sox extends the lead to 4 with a sac fly from Nick Purshock, and RBI singles from Tyler Fornwalt and Matt Brady. Web Gems comes storming back in the top of the seventh, Eric Adiletto starts it off with a single, followed by Alex Larosa’s single, before John Vecelletti knocks Adiletto in. Arik Fenton follows with an RBI double and Ryan Delong knocks another in with a single of his own. Eric Wrenn knocks in the tying run off a single but Eric Adiletto flies out to end the inning for Web Gems. They tie it up at 8 to bring us to the bottom of the seventh. Tommy Gallagher starts Stiff Sox off with a single and Jim Kullman moves him over with a single of his own. Jeff Rodriguez gets up with two runners on and one out and brings Tommy Gallagher in for the first win of the season, and a walkoff nonetheless.

Stiff Sox win on a walkoff, 9-8

Game 2:
Dugout Demons V Birds of War

Dugout Demons are clearly not rusty coming into this one, with John Wagner starting the scoring off with an RBI double. Nate Gregory gets an RBI single, with Scott Masulis following with a single of his own. Then Jimmy Natale gets an RBI single and AJ Dejewski knocks two in with a single of his own and Sean Brennan finishes the scoring off with an RBI double. Dugout Demons put up 6 in the top of the first but then Birds of War get a chance to answer. Birds of War starts off fast, with singles from Austin Dekin and Jay Cowan before being knocked in with a 2 RBI single from Matt Jacobson. Tom Bush follows with an RBI single and Birds of War end up putting up 7 in the inning. Demons get one back in the second off an RBI double from Christian Wagner, but Birds of War adds more to the lead with another three of their own after back-to-back RBI singles from Ryan Thompson and John Laind. Dugout Demons adds one in the 4th again, but Birds of War just keeps adding, with Tom Bush scoring after a leadoff triple. Birds of War piles on in the 4th, with RBI singles from Tom Bush, Justin Kneebone, Ryan Thompson, Matt Jacobson, and a two RBI double from Jay Cowan. They go up 19-8 and don’t look back. Dugout add 5 in the sixth, with a 3 run Home Run from TJ Pergine, but its too little too late and Birds of War take this one easily.

Game 3:
Wild Fire V Philly’s Phinest

Neither team can get anything started in the first and Wild Fire comes out flat in the second before Philly’s Phinest starts the hitting. They start the scoring with 45 RBI singles in a row, from John Quartullo, Chris Rocks, Sean Dougherty, Scott Vogelman, Drew Costello, Mike Rocks JR, Bill Schubert, and Chris Rommel. They put 8 up in the second. Wild Fire gets 3 back in the third, with a two RBI triple from Jim Catanzaro and RBI single from Josh Torrez. Philly’s Phinest adds two in the third with a two RBI single from Mike Rocks Jr and are up 10-3 after 3. Wild Fire gets one in the fourth as Hector Torres adds an RBI single, but that’s the last run of the game for them. Philly’s Phinest adds two more in the 4th and 5th, with an RBI double from Chris Rommel and RBI single from Tony Summers and take their first game of the season with a win.

Game 4:
Philly’s Phinest V Balls Deep

Philly’s Phinest gets one across in the top of the first with a Tony Summers RBI single but Balls Deep answers back with one of their own when Trevor Harris crosses the plate. Philly’s Phinest is held quiet in the second and Balls Deep jumps out to a lead, scoring 4 in the second with a sac fly from Jusu Carl and a two TBI single from Tim Fri. Balls Deep adds another in the 3rd with an RBI single from Will Scholz after a leadoff triple from Nick Carl and then there is no scoring in the 4th. Philly’s Phinest gets one across in the 5th after a Mike Rocks Jr leadoff double and RBI single from Tony Summers, but Balls Deep gets it right back and adds to the lead with two in the 5th off an RBI single from Tim Fossile and sac fly from Ken Huber. Scoring dries up there and Balls Deep wins.

Balls Deep wins 8-2
