Game 1: Purple Cobras vs Pitches Be Trippin

Purple Cobras were up to bat first and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Dan Roman led off the game with a single followed by an RBI double by Steve Gardner to put the Cobras on top. The Purple Cobras added one more run on an error giving them a 2-0 lead after the top of the 1st. Pitches Be Trippin loaded the bases in the bottom of the 1st with 0 outs on a couple of walks to Matt and Harry Horn and a single by Anthony Ferritti but could not push any runs across. Neither team could get anything going in the 2nd as the score remained 2-0 Purple Cobras. The Purple Cobras added a run in the top of the 3rd on singles by Zach Gaffin, Dan Roman and Gardner to extend their lead. Pitches Be Trippin took control of the game in the bottom of the 3rd scoring 4 runs on an error and a two run RBI single by Kris Karabba to give Pitches Be Trippin a one run lead. Purple Cobras bats went silent going down in order in the 4th and 5th innings. Pitches Be Trippin busted the game open in the 5th scoring 4 more runs on an RBI single by Matt Horn, two run RBI double by Harry Horn and an RBI single by Ferritti to make the score 8-3 after five. Purple Cobras did not go away quietly as they cut the lead to 3 runs after scoring two runs on a Ty Allen triple, RBI single by Brandon Roman, double by Mike Corrigan and single by Jordan Roman. Pitches Be Trippin added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th on a sac fly by Paul Abendroth to give Pitches Be Trippin a 9-5 lead heading into the seventh. Gaffin and Dan Roman led off the top of the 7th with singles for Purple Cobras to try and muster a comeback. They both came around to score on a sac fly by Gardner and a single by Brandon Roman to cut the deficit to two, but Pitches Be Trippin escaped with a win after a fielder’s choice to end the game. Pitches Be Trippin takes down Purple Cobras on opening day 9-7.

Game 2: Pitches Please vs One Hit Wonders

Game two got off to a slow start with neither team being able to get the bats going in the first couple of innings. With the score tied 0-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd, Pitches Please got things going, scoring 4 runs on singles by Bill Larkin, Joe Weeks and Dan Altemus to give Pitches Please a 4-run lead entering the 4th. One Hit Wonders got some traffic on the bases in the top of 4th after singles by Mike Harrington and Jesse Grasso, but were left stranded. Pitches Please extended the lead to six in the bottom of the 4th with singles by Kyle Lowery, Jon Beard, Larkin and Weeks. One Hit Wonders got on the scoreboard in the top of the 5th with singles by Bill Groff, Jack Stepnowski and an RBI single by Jared Owens to make the score 6-1. One Hit Wonders held Pitches Please scoreless the rest of the way giving them a chance for a comeback. In the top of the 6th, Grasso hit a 2-run homerun to cut the deficit to 3 runs entering the 7th. Groff started the top of the 7th off with a leadoff double. He would come around to score on a fielder’s choice, but it would not be enough as Pitches Please defense shut down the rest of the inning. Pitches Please holds off One Hit Wonders 6-4.

Game 3: Bombers vs Docs

Bombers could not find the strike zone in the top of the 1st, walking the bases loaded to start the game. Docs scored two runs on an RBI sac fly by Chris Jones. They added one more run on a Clay Snyder single. It was a tough day at the plate for the Bombers and a great defensive game for Docs as they held the Bombers to one hit through the first five innings. Docs took full advantage on offense as the Bombers continued to struggle finding the strike zone and walking guys. Docs would score 9 more runs through five innings with big hits by Brett Keszcyk, Jones, Dylan Brooks, Joe Stankovics and Chris Cartledge to give them a 12-0 lead after five. Bombers would open their scoring in the top of the 6th scoring after singles by Dennis Ricci, Ryan Cannon, James Pello and a two run RBI single by Jake Bohm. Docs added 8 more runs in the 6th and 7th on doubles by Stankovics and Brooks and singles by AJ Bagushinski, Josh Keszcyk, Brett Keszcyk and Paul Elliot. Docs wins big 20-2 against the Bombers.

Game 4: Dark Horse vs Bombers

Dark Horse opened the scoring early putting up three runs in the top of the 1st on doubles by Jim Walker, Nick Mariana and RBI singles by Ryan Schock and Pete Burns. Bombers would remain scoreless through the first two innings. Dark Horse would really get the offense going during their second at bats scoring 15 runs with a homerun and a double by Mariana, singles by Walker, Paul Ferruzzi, Shawn Dunn and a double by Burns. Dark Horse added three more runs in the top of the 3rd on RBI singles by Burns and Dunn to extend the lead to 21-0. Bombers would cut the Dark Horse lead in the 3rd scoring five runs on an RBI single by Ryan Cannon, RBI sac fly by Jake Bohm, RBI double by Jack Jankowski and a two-run RBI single by Jed Fizzano. Dark Horse’s Ryan Schock had an RBI double in the top of the 4th to add another run onto Dark Horse’s big offensive day. Bombers answered right back in the bottom of the 4th adding a run of their own on an RBI single by Gabe McCaughn. Neither team would score in the 5th and the game would end there by run rule. Dark Horse defeats Bombers 22-6.

Game 5: Swingers vs Wire 2 Wire

Wire 2 Wire and Swingers struggled in the first inning as neither team could score. Wire 2 Wire would wake up in the top of the 2nd as they scored two runs off a Bill Capper triple and an RBI double by Derek Acker and an RBI single by Brett Anker to give Wire 2 Wire a 2-0 lead after two. This would be only runs Wire 2 Wire could plate across the rest of the game which opened the door for Swingers. Wire 2 Wire held them scoreless through three, but the Swingers bats could not be stopped in the 4th as they scored 4 runs on doubles by Lucas Burke and Dale Hoover, single Matt Bachmann and a sac fly by Chris Clewell giving them a 4-2 lead after four. Swingers added an insurance run in the 5th on an RBI double by Alex Vitek as they took down Wire 2 Wire 5-2 in our final game of opening day.
